This is my rugby blog. Between now and May I'll be trying to build muscle and loose a bit of fat, over the summer i want to completely slim down (as I'll be playing for club seconds rather than colts and want to move to flanker).
I want to be stronger - my existing bench is 90kg, OH press is 50, deadlift is 140, squat is 100. Adding 30-40kg onto all of my lifts would be good by next season, so I'm aiming for:
Bench: 130
OH Press: 80
Squat: 130
Deadlift: 170
When I train I do a mix. I'll probably run Built Like A Badass when the season ends for a respectable topless look all summer, until then I'll do a slightly modded WS4SB. I'll try and put a bit of general conditioning in from now as well, i hate being fat and lots of running and cycling should shake it off.

I'll be 17 then, not 16. erm, because if I play for colts next season I'll have to play front row, if I play for the seconds/thirds I can play flanker or somewhere in the backs.

Am.
Military Press 1*5 50kg
Incline BB CG BenchPress 3*10 50kg
BB Rows 4*15 30kg
Rear Delt Flyes 3*15 DB+0kg
BB Bicep Curls 3*5 30kg
I've never done BB Rows or Rear Delt Flyes before so the low weight was me getting used to them. None of the lifts were very hard so i can pack the weight on next Monday.

play colts, you'll regret not playing colts. u18's is buy far the best time to be playing rugby.
you should also think about what postion you will be playing when you make it to the first team and if thats in the front row you should take the year at colts to learn the position agaisnt guys your age and not play 2nd or 3rd xv just becasue you wana play backrow. also colts rugby well for me was alot better than 2/'3's rugby as at my club it went 1st u18 2nd 3rd 4th's in terms of senior rugby proirity, colts got more money more right to pitches coaches etc and how can you be good enough to play backrow for the 2's but not the u18's. do you have coaches telling you to do this. if you have coaches like all the ones i know they wont look at backrows under 6 foot. also prop to back thats a strange postion jump in one season and judging by the fact your doing wieghts id say you want more from rugby than just a game with your mates.

I'll see. At the moment my club is encouraging the 17-18 colts to play up into the 3rds and 2nds for the first half of the season (as a few of the players do). This season all but one of our fixtures have been called off before Christmas, now we've got games most weeks until the end of the season. The problem is, unless you have 30+ players in your squad and it's a squad that wins the season only starts at Christmas really. Down South rugby is such a private school thing, so half of our team is out playing for their schools 1st XV on Saturday from Sept till Dec and therefore can't play for us. So unless we get promoted this season I'll probably be playing for the 3rds or 2nds for a bit anyway. It's the same position wise. We have lots of good school players who play with us between school season and uni, and not many of them come back after uni. I play rugby for fun, and after colts the amount of weight/strength I'd need to play front row would make it not fun. I did a scrummaging session with the 3rds and none of the front row weights less than 16 stone.
It all depends on how our Colts are really. If we have a big team and play then I'll stay there, if not I'll play seniors till we get a full squad.
I doubt I'll be playing 1st any time soon, as I'll probably be off to uni when I'm 18 or 19.

ahh fair enough, kinda makes a bit of sense now. youll get that wieght thing alot if your playing 3rds as almost everyone is a prop and its just fat old men. can be a good learning experience tho and its why i was thinking you should stay in colts.

Wednesday

I don't think I'll be able to manage SS on Monday for my upper body.
Anyway, today I did
Squat 3*5 70kg
Bench Press 2*5 (failed last rep on 2nd set) 70kg
Bicep Curls 3*8 (cause my shoulder/back area couldn't handle chins) 30kg
And that's about all I can do on Mondays, so that's what I'll stick with on Mondays. For Wed and Fri I'll stick with the normal SS, depending on how I feel I might add in some vanity lifts. I guess I'll try and add 5kg on every lift per week min, if I can I'll add as much as possible. I assume my squat will power up compared to my bench as it's a bigger set of muscles which can generate more power.
