I was doing some searching around my area (Ottawa, Ontario) for the cheapest place to buy Ironmaster adjustable dumbbells's+120lbs add on kit/bench+dip/crunch and the lowest price I could find was around $1705 with tax (fitness equipment ottawa).
dumbbells $679
add on kit $300
dip $80
crunch $90
bench $360

On the Ironmaster site the same items comes to $1000.71 canadian($938.00 us dollars) without shipping/duties.

Does anyone know of a cheaper place to order from in Canada? Or have an idea of what the shipping/duties would be? I emailed about the shipping but no response yet.

Thanks in advance for the help, need to get some new equipment for my basement gym and loss the gut.

I bought my bench at Exercise Direct in Manitoba. You could call them up and see what they can do for you on what you want to purchase. I had great service and paid the bench $349. Call them and see what they can get you for price since it cost nothing to ask.

EXERCISE DIRECT

By the way I live in Quebec and shipping was pretty decent

Thanks for the link meister1981, they are a bit cheaper for the dumbbells, no word back yet from them on dip/crunch attachments.

I got ahold of matt from Ironmaster and here are the quotes he gave me for everything shipped to Ottawa, Ontario
IM PKG2: $739.00
Add on Kit for QLDB: $199.00
Truck Shipping: $287.09
Import duties/brokerage/GST: $170.06
Order total: $1395.15 USD ($1481.92 Canadian)

Its funny that I can have something shipped 2,862.6 miles (4607km's) and have it still be cheaper than what I would pay if I drove to the store 50 miles away.

Any chance of letting the retailer know of this and maybe getting a break? I guess it still probably won't be worth driving the 100 miles, but who knows. You're gonna like your new stuff though regardless.

I live in Ottawa too...always wanted Ironmaster dumbbells, but don't wanna spend that much on just dumbbell when I could make do with my spinlocks.

I've contacted FEO about the dumbbells before, and he replied. But then when I asked whether he could match Exercise Direct's price, he stopped replying. So I doubt telling him about the shipping 2826.6 miles thing would do any good.

Just in case you're interested, I'm pretty sure Fitness Depot sells Powerblocks.

The guy from Exercise direct responded with prices, cheapest I have found so far and not as far to have it shipped than if I order from the Ironmaster site.

Super Bench $349.99
Super Bench Crunch Attachment $79.99
Super Bench Dip Handles $69.99
Quick-lock dumbell system 5-75 lb $599.99
Quick lock add on kit 90lb (80-120lb} $299.99
Pkg discount -$110.00
Delivery via Sameday (Ottawa Ontario) $109.20

SubTotal:$1,399.15
GST:$69.96
Total: $1,469.11 ($CDN)

I will try and call FEO tomorrow and see if I can get a package discount or explain that I would be willing to buy local if they will come down a bit, we will see what happens.

I just checked on the IM website and that setup would cost $1092 including shipping to get it to my front door. Everything seems to be much more expensive in Canada, so just under $400 more for all that may not be that bad of a deal. I still can't say enough good things about the IM's, so good luck if you get it.

It incredibly how much it costs for an item to pass the border. It's cheaper to ship an item all the way across the country in the US than to ship it a couple miles up north.

Even on BB.com, something that costs like $6 to ship within the US costs $19.99 to Canada!

Yea, it seems to be a pain for you guys. If they are trying to protect their industries, I understand completely, but I haven't heard of a comparable product (power cages too) that are made and sold in Canada for comparable prices to what we have here. So, the ones getting screwed are the citizens because if you want nice stuff, you don't have any choice but to pay the tariffs.

Sucks.

Northern Lights (http://www.nlfit.com/default.asp) is a Canadian company, but as far as I know, that's about it. And their stuff isn't any cheaper either.
