Hey anyone reading.
Have recently got back into the weights after a long time of idleness. Have taken up boxing on the advice of my boss, who is a pro, and am completely addicted to it, best sport in the world IMO, have been doing it for a fortnight or so.
I will be aiming to do a fullbody routine 3 days a week, and box 2-3 days a week also.
This log is a way for me to keep things organised and check on my progress. If you guys have any advice/tips/recommendations on my weights program or boxing, it would be most appreciated.
Day 1: Chest/shoulders
DB Bench: 28kg's 3x8
Incline Hammer Strength: 15kg per side 3x8
DB Press: 18kg's 3x8
BB Shrugs: 80kg 3x10 supersetted with
DB laterals: 3x10
Good workout, low on weights at the moment after a long break, but am going up a weight most workouts, which I am pleased with. Will be heading to the gym tommorow for legs and back, and maybe some bag work as well.

Usually when your working out for some form of mma aren't you supposed to do more of a circuit type training? Or would it not matter at this point seeing as you seem to be wanting to put on some muscle at the moment?

Hey man, I'm not too sure, haven't had much guidance on this, woulda thought for boxing you'd go for the explosive compund type exercises, lots of squatting, deadlifts, power cleans etc. What kind of circuit training do you mean? Thanks for the reply
Did legs and back today. People were using squat racks/olympic bars for bicep curls/lunges/step-overs etc, so did leg press instead of deadlifts.
Day 2: Legs/back
Leg Press: 160kg 4x10
Leg Extensions: 82kg 4x10
Standing calf raises: 130kg 3x20
Seated calf raises: 40kg 3x20
Lat pulldowns: 70kg 3x10
Seated rows: 70kg 3x10
DB Rows: 24kg (per hand) 3x10
Followed up with some light bag work. Focusing on footwork, and keeping my right hand close to my face, pulling back into position after I throw my right hand.
A good session, quads are dead!
Am planning on going back tommorow for a heavier bag session

Went to the gym for a heavy bag session today.
Felt real good, a bit don on energy. I normally focus for about 2-3 minutes of high intensity work, followed by a short break. Went for an hour today.
Trying to focus on speed with the jab, and keeping my guard up. Im a pretty uno kind of guy, so am also working hard on footwork, focusing on speed and technique. At the moment my boxing must look like a walrus mating with a boxing bag. Haha.
Will probably do some weights tommorow, chest/shoulders.

Had an awesome bag session today. Only my 9th or 10th boxing session, but can feel myself getting more power and speed in my jab. Now need to work on throwing my right, and have been working on very basic 1-2 combinations. Footwork is starting to come together.
All in all very pleased with today.

Thanks bro. Awesome you've got a fight lined up, must be an awesome feeling. Training going good? I'd love to get one eventually, think I should get a good year or two solid training behind me first though

Yeah i love the feeling man and trainings going pretty decent, have had a few rough days in the gym due to rough nights out on the town but cutting back on all of that and getting into serious mode now. And yeah that probably would be a pretty good idea, a year would be plenty of time to prepare, but it could only take you 3-6 months depending on if your trainer thinks youre ready, but hey the more time you take the better you improve your game, so i commend you for wanting to train long, lotta guys try to just come into the gym and think theyre going to get a fight within a month or so, but fact is they arent even gonna let you spar until after a few months of conditioning and such, they wanna make sure youre in superb condition and are mentally comfortable to throw hands!

Cool man thanks, good advice. Definitely need to work on conditioning, hate traditional cardio, but I figure I'll prepare physically for boxing by just boxing, as much as I can. Boxing has brought out a streak in me I didn't think I had though, definitely want to fight to win, and fight competitively. The recent David Tua fight in my city has only stoked the flames :).
Keep us posted how your prep goes brah, you got your own journal??

Leg and back day today:
Leg Press: 170kg 3x10
Leg Extension 60kg 3x10
Calf Raises: 130kg 3x20
DB Rows: 24 kg each hand 3x10

A good workout. Am gaining strength each workout. Brought a Madison bag for the garage, will get set up this weeked so I can fit in more bag work.
As an aside rumours going round in the NZ media about a rematch between (my idol) David Tua and Hasim Rahman this year. One can only hope..

When you work the heavy bag, focus on technique over speed. Once you have technique down speed and power will follow naturally.

Cool man thanks, will take that on board.

A good workout. Went up a weight for DB Bench, which was happy with. Am still sucking hard with strength, but am going up and not plateuaing, so hopefully I can make some good gains.
Will go to the gym tomorrow for a bag session. Will hopefully get another lesson with my boss, get shown a few things.
If anyones interested, or from the Oceania area, my boss has fought these two guys:

I had a cool vid of him fighting Pitt, but looks like its been taken off youtube. Damn.
