Hey everyone. Congrats to everyone for the progress y'all have made and for sticking with it.

I've been doing cardio since the start of the month and started doing weight training last week. I've been doing a two/three on one off routine and I've been really good with my diet.

My concern is that I'm on a medication that causes weight gain, so I've been really tempted to take a fat burner. I'm feeling impatient and antsy about losing weight. I already take White Flood to boost my energy pre-workout, but I'm nervous to take something that will upset my stomach and/or will make me super jittery. Do y'all think I should give it a few more weeks before intergrating a FB?

Hi, sorry IDK much about any supps but I think you should first check out how it will interact with your medication. Then think about this if you're feeling antsy and impatient, we're not cramming for a test, we're trying to achieve goals and maintain them long term. A good steady pace is sometimes the best path.
Good luck whatever you choose. :)

From personal experience,I've tried several Fat Burners in an attempt to push me through that plateau. Result, not worth the dollars spent. Don't get me wrong they have a use and can be a useful tool, but it's waymore important to dial in the diet. The fat burners should only be used as an aid and will be most sucessful whaen everything else is dialed in spot on. Really be brutal with assessing the dietand HONEST and work your butt of for a couple of months before sucumming to the quick fix. There are many people around here who can advise you on your diet. Post up a couple of days exact diet for others to pick apart and get some quality advice

I need my ass kicked. I've been slipping folks. I was going strong for three weeks. This week fell back into old habits, haven't hit the gym since last wednesday. Instead of going to the gym last Friday I went to the bar after work, and got drunk. Been eating garbage, drinking soda, and not going to the gym ever since. Been dealing with the girlfriend, or maybe the ex girlfriend, I don't know ha. Dumb stuff though, I gotta get back in the saddle, I was feeling great for the 3 weeks I was going strong, now i'm just tired, not sleeping well. Also noticed, that I hadn't been on this site since last Wednesday after I went to the gym, so figured I'd check in, get motivated again, and let you folks know whats going on.

Rather than kick it hard, I will only try to help out here. You need to understand exactly what your priorities are and focus on what REALLY matters to you. How important is this to YOU?.

Accept there will be failures along the way, and work ot the reasons and try to minimise and limit the binges. Consistencey is the key.

Make sure you allow yourself the odd slack day to eliminate the over the top binges. This is a lifestyle change, not a short term fix for your current problems..

We all know you have it in you to reach your goals and bust throught this plateau, get tot it, work hard and enjoy the NEW YOU you are creating.

Balance being hard on yourself with enjoying the journey. One day at a time. YOU CAN AND WILL SUCCEED

You're welcome. There are a couple of people in this thread keeping it going. I really appreciate everyone participation. I wanted this to help out as many people as it could. I think some have totally given up, but there are several including yourself who have had it rough in spots, but keep getting back up. THAT right there is what helps motivate me.

Thanks Pack, and as of today I will become more involved and spend more time here, helping where I can

Hang in there Paul! We are running a marathon not a sprint. We may have to slow down a bit, but we need to concentrate on staying the course. Baby steps, man, baby steps.

Congrats!

Thanks Ruben, although feelslike crawling more than baby steps.

Starting to get on top of things and find my time and re prioritise, things WILL get better from here

Thanks again everybody, I made it to the gym last night and did 45 mins on the elliptical. Going to go lift tonight, but I did stay up way too late last night. So I think a little nap before going to the gym is in order this evening.

Keeping this up top. :)

Had a great day yesterday. Ate right, just maybe not enough, but clean (and felt good). Did legs at home...no squat rack, so weighted lunges had to suffice...and they did. Keep going you guys.

Make today better than yesterday, and you will own this thing. :)

I'm kind of thinking of switching things up a little bit though. Mainly switching up gyms. Currently I go to a Ballys that is around the corner from my house, and i'm sure most of you are familiar with the Ballys type gyms. I'm just not a big fan of the place. There is another gym called The Lab, which is a little further away, little more expensive (not much since they give big discounts for Veterans, Current military, Police, and Firefighters). It is an MMA gym, they have Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,No Gi Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai,Kickboxing, Boxing, and a huge strength training area with a full time strength coach that hangs out in there to help, instruct, and keep you on track. Now my goal isn't to become some cage fighter, but they have top level trainers that work with everybody, and its all included in the month to month. Kinda seems like a place that would keep me very motivated, after talking to some of the folks there. So I think I'm going to cancel the Ballys and try this place out for a bit, see how it goes.

Milestone for me today. I hit my lowest "scale" weight in 18 years. 196.4. I was 196.6 when I joined BB.com. I went up a few pounds for some reason, now my "cut" (yeah, right) has me at 196.4. I know it is the scale, but I still love it. The PWO shake tastes better today than it has in, well, forever.

Jut ask yourself...Will today be better than yesterday? Then go make it happen.

Ok, so the first month has come to an end and I hope everyone has stayed focused on their goals for the challenge. It's cold out here in philly but spring is creeping up on us, so I'm trying hard to be consistent. I weighed in at 176 today which is up from the 171.5 I came in on at the 11th (good thing). I'm doing ok, but figured i'd put up some pros of what i have improved on and some cons to keep me honest on what I need to change in the month to come. Will update pics sometime this weekend

Pros: Eating Breakfast- in the past the only time i ate "breakfast" was after waking up on
sunday morning at 12pm and going to the diner with the guys to get an omelette
before the games started.
Taking my Supplements- shakes, multi, and fish oil everyday and at consistent times
each day. Pretty much a habit now
Going to the Gym- only missed 4 days this month, I'm on my way

Cons: Eating out for Lunch 2-3x a week- I buy enough food to take in my own lunches, I'm
just not preparing it the night before. Going to try and cook in bulk on the weekend
this month.
Drinking Once a Week- each time 6+ drinks.....terrible, aiming for once every other
week this month

Stay on it people!!!!

It can get difficult at times to keep motivated and focussed.
Best thing that works for me has been to write everything down, goals, targets and why. Also breaking everything down to smaller weekly/daily goals can help. It's alltoo easy to get overwhelmed at times when things don't go so well.

Also finding a group of friends that support and keep you focused helps. And when all else fails just stop and think about what you want, and how important it really is to you.

Great to see the habits are forming and you are being consistent with it all. Consistently eating the right foods on time every time is the hardest part of this. You are definitely on the right track. Well done

Its only end of January but I already lack of motivation. Please help.

There are lots of trick. Reward yourself when you do well. NOT with bad food though. Try a new pair of workout shoes, workout clothes, new pair of pants. Something in relationship to your goals and achievements.

You can try looking at pics or posting them to get others unbiased opinion. You can try visualizing your goals. You can take a picture of someone you admire or has the body you want to achieve. Hang it on the fridge. And/or put as your desktop background. Read transformation stories on this site.

Hope something there will help you out.

56 lbs lost as of today (dropped another pound somehow). My lowest weight since getting out of the military. Went to the store yesterday to try on pants. The 34 inch pants were loose enough where I almost tried on 32..but didn't. One of those things where you just know it isn't going to happen. Maybe next week.

We had steak, green beens and a sweet potato for dinner. I ate about 500 cals over my normal daily intake. The Gods were smiling on me yesterday. Going to work legs in an hour.

Keep it up guys.

Awesome! :)

Thank you. :) Even though it has been since May when I began, I feel a higher level of motivation now than I did even then. I think what blows it for some (and I now it has for me countless times) is not seeing immediate results. These days, I see little changes all the time. I am also having a lot of fun tweaking and tuning my diet, and if I stop seeing what I want to see, I tune it some more. :) I think (or I hope) I am in a place where I can see myself being pretty happy with the "kinds" and "amounts" of food I am taking in. I've never really had that before.

I guess we (or maybe it's just me) have to give ourselves permission to feel good about where we are headed, and not get so hung up about where we are.

Today's weigh in: 186.9

Basically I lost that 4 Lb gain I had from last week, which makes me think it was water weight. 5 weeks in & through all the up's and downs I'm averaging a 1 pound loss a week. Kinda discouraging in that I'm aiming for 2 Lbs a week, but I'll take anything I can get right now

All good comments! You gotta have goals, attainable short and long term goals. Otherwise your pissing into the wind. Once you set those goals you have to set in place a plan and stick to it. C'mon man it's only been a month, hang in there.

Hi, I took pics and weight and measure on Friday and am pleased with the results. I took off that extra (water?) lbs from last week. I'm trying not to focus too much on the scale, more on bf%, and the way I think I look.

btw I was reading about Max-OT cardio. Have you ever tried this? Also they recommend a recumbent bike, but I only have the ski machine, is it worth a try in your opinion?

Ok, its been 4 weeks now.
My mini goals are 2 lbs a week. Bigger is 8 lbs a month. My main goal is to drop to around 180ish, hard to say exactly cause once I build more muscle the numbers may be so different.

Started off at 225.8 lbs.

This week I weighed 218.6 lbs I weighed 221 even last week. 2.4 lb loss this week.

Total loss for the month 7.2 lbs.

Hoping to be at 210 end of next month.

I f*cked up the 3rd week by not only not losing the 2 lbs but gaining .4 lbs. Since I have been losing just over 2 lbs all these weeks except the one Instead of being 2 lbs behind my monthly goal, I'm only 1 behind. Pissed Im still behind though.

Whats everyone else numbers been for the end of month 1? For those who haven't mentioned them already. How many lbs lost or gained? Changes in reps or amount of weight for workouts? More energy?

You're pissed? You've gotta be kidding me! You are doing Great!!!! You should be very proud of yourself! Yes you are a bit behind your goal and it's your fault, but when you messed up you put yourself right back on track. You're only 0.8 lbs behind schedule. That is excellent. Feel good about it and keep at it. The more you stay with it the easier it gets, except for those social nites out. For me those never get easier. And the more fat you lose and the more muscle you gain and the better your clothes fit the more motivated you will be. I'm looking forward to seeing your results next month! :)

I am somewhat of a perfectionist. Ironically, its a bad quality most of the time for me. It works sometimes but in the case of this type of thing it could hurt me more. In school or at work, if its not perfect to me I just get stressed or frustrated or want to just stop. I remember when writing a paper I would have to have the perfect opening, if I couldn't get one I like enough, I would get pissed just write down whatever crap opening and just half ass the rest of the paper.

Part of why I never did anything till recently is because I was always missing 1 part of the equation. One point, I had the machines but a crap diet, so I said I won't waste my time till I can do both so my progress and gains are perfect. Another I had the food, but no machines. Told myself the same thing. Say there is a routine, that uses various pieces of equipment, if I didn't have one I wouldn't do any of it at all. Recently I just told myself f*ck it I'm sick of being like this, I will do what I can. It was all really just a bunch of excuses. I still don't have everything I want to help me with all this. My motivation is very low when it comes to working out and sometimes food. Its just so easy to make something quick that's high in carbs or some crap packaged meal. Its so easy to just sit here, or on the couch and not workout. I need that extra push, I'm just trying to figure out how to give it to myself.

I'm pissed about the numbers, but since I didn't go at it with all I got, I did deserve to have a week bite me in the ass. I'm more mad at myself for letting it happen.

Motivation is prob the biggest hurdle I have to jump over. That and laziness.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the feedback. How to get people to comment on my photo? seems like no one comment on my photo yet.

And about setting short term goal,
Let's say I already created shortterm goal for my bb progress,
but sometimes we don't achieve our goal as planned.
(eg I didnt achieve what I want for Jan2010)

If it was you what would you do? You change the final goal or stick to the goal of the year?

I picked a few lbs since yesterday. No problem. Everything is in check, diet is tight, maybe just too extra water. Today is the next day. Got a big old coffee in my hand, a serving of almonds and a whey drink for sipping. Ahhh yes, the beginning of a new week.

Keep it up guys. :)

Yeah, that's right! Sometimes we don't achieve our goals. It's a part of life. But we go on trying. We don't go all Eyore on everone. Keep your chin up! See at as a challenge.

Decided to jump on the scale again today. dropped 8 lbs from last week. I'm feelin alot better about not being able to do as much weight. I wasnt able to increase weight this week, but i was able to punch out 4 more reps on each exercise.

And i had a very inspirational moment today as well.
-- There is a guy that i see in the weight room a few days a week. He is 73 years old. Today he came up and talked to me for a little while (He used to be a weight lifting coach for the school). He tells me i had the biggest smile hes ever seen. After a few minutes of random chatting, he looks at the ground, then looks up at me with tears in his eyes. He says, "I come in here 3 days a week, and for me its like a hospital. But then i always see you a few minutes after i start, and it brings me such joy to see your commitment and motivation. Seeing you makes me want to come back and keep working. Keep up the hard work, and never stop smiling, yours is worth a million bucks."

idk why, but that made me work harder than i ever had in the past.

Decided to jump on the scale again today. dropped 8 lbs from last week. I'm feelin alot better about not being able to do as much weight. I wasnt able to increase weight this week, but i was able to punch out 4 more reps on each exercise.

And i had a very inspirational moment today as well.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Aren't elderly people wonderful? They don't mind telling you what they think. Sometimes it's not so great. LOL...

Yeah they are. He is really a great guy. He always looks like hes in a pissed off mood. and wont talk to ANYONE except me and the manager of "The Wellness Center" (schools fancy word for gym) It's kinda odd, but i also think that people think hes just in the way all the time. But i think it is absolutely fantastic that hes still working out, and not just sitting around at home waiting to die.

I also tend to be a perfectionist, but before I began strength training, I decided to go with a piece of advice I found in -- of all things -- an investment book: "that you invest is more important than how much you invest."

I extend this principle to "that you are going to the gym is better than what you are able to do there" (up to a point). Or consider the cliche'd but true advice, "if you wait for conditions to be perfect before you go on a journey, you will never start."

It's how I've chosen to begin this bodybuilding thing. I know I'm a noob, and that I will make mistakes. But over time I will learn, and I will reach my goals. So will you.

Whats everyone else numbers been for the end of month 1? For those who haven't mentioned them already. How many lbs lost or gained? Changes in reps or amount of weight for workouts? More energy?
It's been 7 weeks for me...

Still on the machines. Every workout day I do the following (for 3 sets of 12 reps each):
1. Leg curl (Start: 10 lb, Now: 65 lb)
2. Leg extension (Start: 10 lb, Now: 90 lb)
3. Leg press (Start: 25 lb, Now: 135 lb)
4. Chest press (Start: 10 lb, Now: 80 lb)
5. Pectoral fly (Start: 25 lb, Now: 85 lb)
6. Rows (Start: 10 lb, Now: 100 lb)
7. Lat pulldown (Start: 20 lb, Now: 70 lb)
8. Lateral raise (Start: 10 lb, Now: 40 lb. My shoulders tire quickly, and exercises like the chest press, the row, and the pec fly also work the shoulders, so the weight for this one hasn't gone up as dramatically as other body parts)
9. Biceps curl (Start: 10 lb, Now: 70 lb)
10. Triceps press (Start: 10 lb, Now: 90 lb)
11. Ab crunch (Start: 20 lb, Now: 60 lb. I set the weight on the machine)

Starting weight: 138 lbs
Current weight: 153 lbs

I just wish my freaking upper body would grow. And in case you're wondering, yes I plan to transition to free weights in the future. I'm waiting till I reach the 100 lb milestone in every bodypart except shoulders and abs. Totally arbitrary, but I don't care. I'm happy with that.

Photo looks good.

As for missing your goal for January, don't panic or stress on it. Try to figure out where you went wrong and make minor adjustments. Remember though, the overall goal keep it firmly in your focus. Just make adjustments as needed to get there. Many people even break their goal setting down to what do I want to achieve this week. It's easier to break it down than get overwhelmed if you miss bigger targets. Do this too many times and that's where the wheels fall off. Keep at it, and best of luck

Dropped another 2lbs this last week so creeping up on it ever so slowly.

Things going fairly well, and getting back into the lifting again, actually surprised that not much drop off in strentgh with the extended layoff. However looking in the mirror there has been some softening and loss of muscle. Not really a good thing from where I stand.

Expecting to see some static maintenance of weight as the muscle comes back over the next month or so. Usually happens to me that everything stays the same foe a while as I lose fat at the same rate as gaining lean mass, I guess it has to happen.

Weights this week a little up in the air as yesterday at work had an accident that resulted in concussion and a number of stitches in my head. Not a bright thing to do, but interesting roadblock to get around. Seems this year is going to be one of those.....

Another 12lbs to go before next reasessment.

I failed for 12 years trying to get lean. Last year was my first win in that regards. You have to want it and then do everything in your power to take it, because nobody is going to give you anything. Picture the body you want when you are training or eating. That's what works for me. Then take control of your cravings, lazy thoughts, etc. and get the body you've always wanted.

I'd re-evaluate the goal (was/is it too lofty), along with the overall plan to achieve it. Maybe the is was good, but the execution isn't all that it could be. Maybe you adhered to your plan perfectly, and it simply wasn't right to begin with. I make minor adjustments every so often, just to see what happens. As we develop confidence in ourselves to stay focused on the "goal," it makes adjusting the plan easier (imo). Making adjustments and having discipline (again, IMO) are the keys to the kingdom. Take out either of those, and you cheat yourself out of your goals.

Most things in life are what you make of them. You recognize that you are a perfectionist, now use it to your advantage instead of letting it get the best of you. So you can't find the perfect opening for your essay. frustating? definitely! skip the opening, write an awesome paper and come back to the opening at the end. Even if the opening paragraph is not great it is following by an awesome essay.
You messed up only 1 out of 4 weeks. Get mad. Now get over it. Learn what triggered it and how can you avoid it next time. Or how can you shorten a bad week to a bad day or 2? Life is not perfect. Hell, most of the time it isn't fair! Seek to make progress and improvements. Never Give Up!!
Here's to a new, & improved, month. :)

No 2 scales have ever given me the exact same number. Use only 1 scale for the purpose of tracking your progress. The actual number itself is less important than whether it is moving up or down or remaining the same. More important is how you look and feel and how your clothes fit.

Fantastic points. Well stated. Just like I am NOT giving up. Weight on the scale has not flippin' budged. I choose to look at other things. Like more vascularity coming out in my arms. Which indicates I'm getting leaner. So I spit in the general direction of the scale :) I know I'm eating right. I know I am training well. I know I'm getting in good cardio. Things have been adjusted. So I'm all good. NEVER SURRENDER!

welcome back. It's great that you didn't gain any fat while on the road. It's a dangerous place to be for people who care about what they eat. The interstates are practically paved with fast and fatty food joints.

The way your clothes fit and what you see in the mirror are often a better indicators than the scale says. I didn't weigh myself until I'd been at it for 5 months and I tried to avoid the mirror. My only measure was the size of my pants. Watching my pants "grow" and having to go shopping for new ones every couple of months was awesome and so very motivating!
Keep up the great work guys! :)

Awesome. That should be an indicator that you've gained some muscle and yet the scale didn't change. That does mean leaner. woohoo!

I still see more leaness and so do others. So I have stayed off the scale. Maybe I should throw it out the door? :) I will try to get some pics up by the end of next week along with another 9 fold caliper pinch test for bodyfat.

1 more pound down today. Losing at a rate which feels a little fast over the past few days. Guess I'll ride it out, but cals may be a little low. Abs are just around the corner. :)

Losses are losses

Bump for the thread.

May 17, 2009 250 lbs. (BF unknown)

Feb 4, 2010 193 lbs (BF still unknown)

Size 34 pants today....loose, very loose. :)

Motivation..... higher today than yesterday.

Reflection in the mirror...priceless. :)

Great work,

Small update. I did not get on the scale today, but i was able to increase the weight in all of my lifts by 10lbs. I've still got somewhat of a mental block when it comes to the incline bench press since thats where i got hurt last year, but im fighting through it.

Good stiff, keep at the inclines.

update:

Weight didnt change this week, but I am getting stronger in the gym!!!

No loss is not necessarily a bad thing. As long as the image in the mirror is changing. Good stuff on the strength increase

I aint into sweet stuff but those things are awesome, but so bad for u.

Did a full body workout yesterday, basically every muscle except my chest muscles hurt. Its awesome. My triceps and thighs killing me the most. I knew I did good on legs cause I remember a few years back I could leg press 250 for 10 reps and it wasn't that hard and my legs didn't hurt the next day. If something can get my legs on fire it must be something.
I did maybe 10 or close close squats, 10 wide, 20 regular. I also did about 20 or so lunges.

Gonna work hard for the next couple weeks to make up for the cheat meal Im having Superbowl day. Even for that, I'm having a light coleslaw, corn salsa, few baked potato wedges, and some honey bbq chicken wings baked, and ribs.
To not go all out I will have more of the first 2 things, and more chicken than ribs. Cooking all parts on my own so I know all thats in it. I am also still gonna try and have 3-4 servings of fruits and veg that day too. Prob will be harder to get that for veg than fruit that day.

Curls 65 to 77 lbs.
Bench 127 to 133 lbs.
deadlifts went from 35's to 45's (weights on bar)
squats same as above.

Other than that just eating eating eating...

Did you post the pic on this thread? I don't have time to check out everyone's profile to see if they've posted new pics.

Yeah, that's right! Sometimes we don't achieve our goals. It's a part of life. But we go on trying. We don't go all Eyore on everone. Keep your chin up! See at as a challenge.

I think I know what to do now.
1) keep going
2) setting smart goal/adjust the goal accordingly.

Thanks for the ideas.
Ah its chinese new year soon, going to eat alot hehe..
I'm ectomorph type so I'm lucky that i wont gain much bodyfat easily.
Will going back on track after chinese new year.

In case I mis-typed my intentions. I am more apt to keep the goal, and adjust the way to achieve it. Sometimes (without knowing what we are after) however, we (some of us, myself included) have a tendency to set a goal which under the best circumstances, isn't realistic. "Evaluate" the goal, and allow for adjustments which will help you to achieve it. Adjusting the "goal" may be the fastest way to never achieving it, or any part if "it." Adjusting the method or maybe the length of time (keeping the goal the same) is what I meant to suggest. Sorry if I sounded like I was suggesting you get rid of or change your overall goal. That was not my intention. :)

I won't overdo it.

Man, I thought my muscles hurt yesterday. Thy hurt worse today. I have my legs bent when I sleep, and I woke up got out of the bed and the act of my legs straightening felt so bad I had to sit back down a min. Legs killing me, calves most. My chest does hurt today. Only part that doesn't is my back.

Only thing that sucks is having 2 off days at least cause of the pain. I wanted to do something today. I hope the pain is mild enough for me to do something 2morrow.

Sounds like DOMS

Best bet is hot/cold therapy. Either heat pad & ice therapy or hop in the shower for 20 minutes and switch between Hot & Cold water every 5 mins. It's gonna suck, but it helps. Aspirin & Tylenol help make the pain manageable, bit don't do nothing to make it go away faster.

Also try walking around the block to get the blood flowing then stretch afterward

Nice problem to have. Going through similar thing right now, body changes but no overall loss of weight. I guess that's not too much of a bad thing right now. Problem having as the waist drops need smaller pants but then the legs too tight....

I started wearing Levi's 560 Loose Fit. I am down to a 32 inch pants. Those and Lee's relaxed fit are good for my legs. Though the relaxed fit probably won't work too much longer.

Terrible week. Felt like crap. Workouts mostly stank. I had to get new shoes Monday. A women helped me at the running store who I hadn't seen before. Shoes ended up sucking. So I took them back Saturday and got a much better pair by being helped by the usual guy who helps me. So Sunday I had a nice run. Saturday I ate great with lots of broccoli and cauliflower. Problem is superbowl Sunday I had tortilla chips with a homemade bean dip. So now I feel worse. I better figure out how to pull it together this week!

previous years i set alot of goals but only achieve some of them. i think i might have to be contribute more to achieve a goal rather then simply change the goal.

Congrats.

Well, thanks to the Superbowl stuff, I forgot to weigh myself on Sunday. I have already eaten twice today, but they weren't too big of a meal, so I decided to step on the scale. I was 218.6 last Sunday, this Tuesday I just weigh 216.6. Not sure what my meals have added or what but its been 9 days and I'm down 2. Not sure where I was Sunday, but the fact I weighed myself after Sunday, which was my cheat day and I am still down 2 lbs that makes me happy. Still, I want the 2 lb mark every week, so I am hoping to get to around 214.6 when I weigh in this coming Sunday.

Started Jan 6th at 225.8 Now as of Feb 9th I am 216.6 with a total loss of 9.2 lbs since the start. Not too bad for 5 weeks. I am still 1 lb behind my the goal I wanted at this point.

Motivation is still the biggest hurdle in my way. Its just so easy to just say I don't feel like doing the workout or counting the calories. Worst thing I did was skip meals. Made me eat more starch since I felt more hungry.

Great! In spite of your minor setbacks you are doing very well and every week you are nearer to reaching your goal. Find your motivation. The fact that you are making progress should be motivating in and of itself. Get up every day and say "I can do this!!!" Repeat it throughout the day. If you don't feel like working out remind yourself of your goals and visualize yourself looking ripped. You don't have to count calories all day long. At some point you should know what you should eat and how large the portion should be. IMO it's better to make an educated guess and remain in the right range of caloric intake than to blow it all because it's become a real chore to weigh and measure your food constantly. It also helps if you can plan your meals weekly, or at least the day before so you're not running around hungry grabbing for food. We almost always choose wrong when that happens.
Hope I helped. Keep up the good work:)

I noticed 1 change today. During my first week it snowed a lot and I went to shovel. My back was hurting bad not long after I finished the porch. Hurt the whole time and was kinda like torture shoveling the walk and driveway.

Snowed lots today, went out and shoveled. Not only did my back not hurt so quickly, but it didn't hurt much at all till about 2/3 into it and it only hurt a bit. My back hurt all day and the next after shoveling the last time. Right now it doesn't hurt at all.

Haven't noticed much in how I look or strength, but how I reacted to shoveling was a huge difference.

Thanks for the nice words djz. I don't really have support here and I am really on my own. This is all I got when it comes to support or maybe a push or advice when I need it.

You will find that your family and friends are the worst ones about knocking you off the wagon. Sometimes they don't understand your desire to lead a physically fit life. if you have someone at home to support you, it's great! But, a lot of times we do it alone. My wife supports me and I her, but I still count on a bunch of people here for support and advice. Keep at it long enough and you will make believers out of them and they will quit giving you a hard time (if they are) and start supporting you.

Had my shoulder looked at today, and x-rayed. If you recall form an earlier post, I had a major surgery two years ago (Feb 12) and thought I hurt it again. The initial injury did not happen in the gym. Anyway, surgeon said go ahead and lift, but keep lateral movements lighter. I have grinding in my shoulder you have to hear to believe. The repair was extensive (with all sorts of pins and weird procedures to fix it, including a scope through the back), but he said as long as there is no pain, what I am feeling is what is to be expected with this repair.

So, there you have it. I did shoulders tonight (military press, laterals and shrugs) and I feel fine. Now, I did introduce dead lifts tonight (I did back too). I can barely walk. Feels good and bad at the same time.

I was down another pound today too, so I have yet again hit another weight loss milestone. You guys are helping, even if I haven't told you all that lately. :)

Figured after a visit over the weekend from the inlaws and a few meals that weren't on my diet i'd of gained for sure, but still managing to lose consistently down to 233. What probably helped is that I've started doing HIIT again. If you are stuck and you haven't tried it give a try and I'm sure you will drop some pounds. I like to do it immediately after lifting except on leg days. I'm telling you if there is any secret to getting lean this is it! Just don't ruin it afterwords with ice cream like my workout partner does!

Gas got shut off today. I have no heat. When, I found out it was shut off, I went to pay the bill. Dude actually brought a cop with him to shut it off, I guess they ready for people to get real pissed off cause of the weather. There is at least 1 foot of snow out. Went to pay and they said nobody would come till 2morrow.
Its very cold inside. I kinda don't feel like doing stuff after all the shoveling but I figure since its so cold doing some cardio will be a way for it not to be so bad, at least for about 45 minutes.

Got a space heater in whatever room I am in. Low 60's so far inside.

I consider myself part of this 2010 challenge... not on a public level, but maybe i should. I just have goals in my head which i attempt to execute

ever since late october/ early november of 2009, i've been constantly losing weight and building muscle. I've lost 25 lb's of fat, and gained noticeable muscle.

Untill 2 weeks ago, when i got very sick. I'm lacking motivation as i'm 19, away at community college and 12 hours away... my parents are losing their house which i grew up in and it's the only home i know. In 2-3 weeks, there bankruptcy will be over with and they'll be living in apartments 20 minutes from the desirable town we used to live in. On top of this, my ****ty 1997 honda might be seized... the radiator just broke yesterday too and needs to be replaced! $350!!!! argh

when will life get better. I've already lost my health insurance, and this is tough on me as i grew up with my parent's giving me the best of everything they could afford. They can't afford much at all anymore. I've been sick since monday of last week, and it's already friday! That's about 11 days of a flu/sickness, and i have to wait 3-5 hours at urgent care and pay almost $100 for co-pay and antibiotics to feel better... which i don't have.

I must be strong, and continue on my path of making myself feel better with exercise and weight lifting, and gaining confidence in general.

wow! That's a lot for anyone to handle. I wish I could help you. You need to talk to someone close to you-your parents, other family members, close friend. You shouldn't have to shoulder this alone. Do your best to stay inschool. IMO a good education is important for your future. The flu will pass, but if you really need med attn go to the emergency room-public hospitals must take all. Good workouts will help to relieve stress so get to it when you r healthy enuff. Sometimes life sucks!!! If ur lucky this is the bottom & things will improve. Check back in with me. I care.

it was great
i think i'm finally gettin over this sickness, time to get a 6 pack for summer! i want to lose 8% bodyfat in 4-5 months... i think it's possible fersure I really want to gain some muscle too though, i'm going back to lifting 3x a week so things should be back on pace. Didn't weigh myself last Sunday, but according to my goal of 2 lbs per week I should be down 4 lbs from 2 weeks ago.
2 weeks ago I weighed 218.6
Today its 215.8
Loss over 2 weeks 2.8 lbs
Another 1.2 lbs behind.

I am exactly 10 lbs down from when I started January 1st. Was hoping to be 12 lbs down at this point.
Still shooting for 195 by the end of April like I mentioned in one of my first posts.

Went to high school with someone with that. I could stick my whole fist in the dent he had in his chest.

On side note. I'm down to 185.1Lbs. 10 Lbs from my goal. It's a 1.8Lbs loss for two weeks since I forgot to weigh in last week.

It's a loss, so I'm happy. but I'm also slightly dejected. I'm averaging about a pound a week which is within what is considered a healthy weight loss, but I've been aiming for 2lbs a week.

This week is going to be a challenge though... bot my Birthday on Friday, so who know what will happen.

Poor week last week.

Got no training in at all. Working some ridiculous hours all week last week, and having no energy left to train. Sounding like excuses and in part they are, but still trying to find the balance with the new business and family. At least I managed to eat well.

Weight stayed the same and kind of realising this has been slipping away from me a ittle bit. Consistency is the biggest issue and making time. Keeping on plugging away at it though. Killer chest and Bi's workout tonight, feels good to back at it

Had a good weekend. Was up 4 lbs on Sun, back down to within 1.2 of my lowest weight today. Just goes to show, the scale IS NOT to live and die by. :)

I did have a 400 + or - calorie desert yesterday (best guess based on the amount), and I was about 500 cals over my daily on Sat., and I have to tell you, I loved it. Not a single bit of guilt afterwards. Had a tremendous workout today, killing the protein, and my squat numbers were up by a few reps + 10 lbs on the bar.

Stay focused you guys.

If your today was not as good as your yesterday, make your tomorrow better than both.

Great job to those making progress! To those not quite at your goals, keep pushing you can do it.

I have given up the scale completely. When my strength rises yet my body seems to look better, the scale just pisses me off.

Have a new workout partner starting today. Haven't had one in a very looong time. So hopefully this will push my limits even more. Not sure though, I've gotten pretty good at pushing my limits.

Once I get lighter and can actually see muscular development and such, I def wont be weighing myself every week. Just every 2-3 just to keep track a bit. I know for right now I haven't built enough muscle yet to make the scale reading off yet. Big reason the scale annoys me is how depending on how I stand on it it has a different number. Its like if I just get on it I may have too much weight on my heels and the added pressure adds pounds. I am still learning how to step light on it and balanced so the reading is my actual weight. Many times I would step on it the first reading is like 2-3 lbs above where I am. I try and step on it lighter and try to properly balance my weight on both feet it reads correctly. I know its not the scale cause if I put a 25 lb weight on it it reads the same correct number everytime.

I like the scale. It's been steadily rising since I started 9 weeks ago (good Lord, where has all the time gone???). I'm up 16 lbs.

However, I hate the mirror. I never see any difference, so about three weeks ago I decided not to look at myself shirtless in the mirror. It's been difficult, but I've stuck with it. Maybe the results will surprise me when I finally do so at the end of this week.

I had a serious Valentines day treat. At least 400 calories worth of cake (frosted) and low fat ice cream. It tasted so good I didn't even realize it was (except the cake) a lower calorie treat. Dj, you are not alone. :)

Not me, I'm not big on candy and sweet stuff much anyway. Glad I don't have that temptation. Only weakness for me in the sweetness area is cinnamon type things. Cookies, those swirl cakes, cinnamon rolls etc.
If you are to have chocolate though dark chocolate is better. Have dark chocolate dipped strawberries or cherries or another fruit and it can be a healthy treat. As long as u don't eat a ton of it.

My weakness is pastas and various sauces. Starch and sauce.

I say weigh yourself, who knows it may not be as bad as u think and even if it is, it may help u pace yourself a bit more for other days like this.

Not much news from me in terms of physical progress, but my motivation level is higher than it has been since I started. Im still about a 6 out of 10, but I started being like a 2 or 3. I want to workout more and have my body heal faster so I can go at it again. Before it was easy to skip it, now I feel guilty if I don't do anything.

Its a big step for me since motivation was and still is my biggest enemy.

Any imrovement in motivation is a forward step. Seems to help you become more focussed on the goals we set ourselves.

Just remember to ensure you are resting well and not overdoing it. This is the hardest part, but while you are making gains ride the wave. Sometimes not doing anything is the best thing to do. If you work hard and rest thesame way, and keep on top of the diet side of things, you are well on the way

Down another pound today. First time I have been under 190 lbs in at least 20 years. Taking today and tomorrow off from the gym (but not the diet). Feeling good (except the soreness from a workout yesterday which set the bar very high for me. :)

Heading to the international motorcycle show in Chicago on Saturday if anyone is going to be there. Just look for the guy with the big smile on his face. The smile will be about me being around a bunch of new bikes, and feeling good enough about myself so I feel no need to buy one to make myself feel better. You see, I don't only eat when I feel bad, I spend serious amounts of money...neither helps much....Sad isn't it.

Keep up the work everyone.

End of week 10 for me.

Still no pictures (sorry!). I think it's time for me to move beyond machines. Except for pulldowns, lateral raises, and ab crunches, I'm now moving at least 100 lbs with each body part. That's serious improvement considering that just 10 weeks before I was struggling with 10 and 25 lb weights.

I'm scared of moving to the free weight area in my gym, though, and scared of the thought of squatting and bench pressing and looking like an idiot (at times, I still feel like one, but that doesn't mean I should look like one!). Wish me luck guys...

Great work but remember there's no need to fear the free weights. Be careful and work out smart and watch the improvments come. As for looking like and idiot, who cares we all have to start somewhere, get into it and just focus on the new you that will emerge at the other end. Give it a go, and if you are not sure ask someone for help. Surely there are people willing to help you along your journey

Not good news from me this week to report.

Seems things are just not aligning for me. Another week of interupted workouts and long hours at work. Kind of frustrating injured myself first workout of the week and stopped any other progression. After days of suffering finally went to the doc's today to find I've got a partial tear of the triceps tendon at the elbow insertion in my right armand have also managed to aggravate my right rotator cuff. So no pressing movements for me for a while. Too bad, but life goes on.

Need to rethink things a little as now my time frame will be stretching out a few more weeks. But now I can focus on leg workouts and cardio a little more to cut the flab. Hmmmm, yeah.

Maybee it'stime to spend a few weeks deadlifting and squatting myself into submission. Now that seems like fun.

On a positive note did manage to drop a half a pound this week. Yeah yeah, bugger all but it's something better than nothing.

Keep it up guys, seeing some real good stuff from you

You're making great progress. :) Don't be intimidated by free weights or anything/anyone else in life. Do what u r ready to do. Just put on some blinders, don't make eye contact with anyone, i.e. pretend ur alone, and forge ahead. Go with a plan of course so ur not just standing there figuring out what to do 1st.

Hey, treading water is better than sinking, at least u didn't gain any fat. Some things are beyond our control. Do what u can and please stop injuring yourself. :)

As for me, well last week I remember posting about my chocolate binge - 3 days long on Valentine's Day candy, mostly Godiva so at least it's "quality" fat I'm gaining LOL - up 4 lbs to 126 on Friday AM. To say I'm unhappy with myself would be a gross understatement, but my diet has been back on track since Wednesday. I'm taking out my serious dieting taskmaster and putting my mouth on austerity budget. I will have better to report coming Friday, which is also EOM so it's pic day and bf meas as well. Then all bets are off Saturday nite as it is my birthday and cheesecake it will be! The trick will be not letting it carry over into Sunday...
On the positive side, I haven't missed a workout and those are going well. :) I'm rewriting my program and will start new on Tuesday. Have a great week everyone.

Up three lbs today after a nice little cheat day yesterday. Had a great workout today, back in the game. :)

Here is something which illustrates how other people and their comments can detract people from their goals, (or make them question themselves). We went to the school party (my wife is a high school math teacher) which was a rescheduled Christmas party. We both ate some of the food there (snackish type stuff). I decided to have a cup cake. As I picked it up, this other teacher whom I have known comes over and says, "Do you really think you need that?" (no smile, flat affect). Now, I have lost 61 lbs (58 if I factor in the 3 lbs I got back this weekend:)), so I proceeded to tell him (not sure why I felt like I had to do this) I had just lost 61 lbs, and was treating myself. He replies with, "Yeah, well I lost 50 lbs once, and look at me now." (he is sort of fat, but not obese). I guess the message, and he is right, is that it can be gained back. Like I don't know this. His comment actually really ruined the night for me.

I guess I just wanted to say that even though I am pretty happy with my progress, I still find it hard to let go of these types of comments. Losing the weight is the easy part. Recognizing the progress has proven to be much harder for me (even 9 months into it).

I think the mental part of changing ourselves, lags well behind the physical changes in terms of getting used to it. Anyone else see this in themselves.

Have a great week everyone.

Update for me as well.
Im very mad.

Ok 2 nights ago, I was feeling good about how I was doing that week. Lots of exercise and everything. I step on the scale and I get 214 even. I was 215.8 last Sunday, so that was a great friday number. I did good on Friday, and Saturday came, I cannot work out on Saturday cause of a med I take. I did not eat much, in fact thanks to the low energy and crappy feeling I only ate 3 meals on Saturday.
I get up today and step on the scale and the lowest number I see after stepping on it a dozen times is 215.4.
I have always hated that scale because of its sporadic numbers and how they change depending on how I stand on it. I tried standing on it as balanced as I could and it wouldnt drop below 215.4. I don't get how I could have gained 1.4 lbs in 2 days. Esp since 1 day was good and I worked out. I was prob under 214 on the start of Saturday.

Only thing I figure could happen is I ate too little yesterday and my body stored it all because I ate too little. Or maybe its something to do with the medication idk. The only diff btwn yesterday and the rest of last week is I didn't work out and I ate less meals. I still stayed 1000 calories below maintance and I still ate 3-4 servings of veg. Only 1 of fruit but whatever.

I really dont wanna change my body stat to show only a .4 lb loss when I know I should be around 214 or 213.something

Take that mad to the gym tomorrow and really kick butt!!!!!!!!!!!!
That said, the scale can make us all a little crazy. I only let myself weigh once a week. We all fluctuate on a daily basis, idk why. So once a week and then I "hide" the scale in the back of the closet. Same day, same time. Try it.

People have some nerve!!! It's amazing how so many people think it's ok to comment on personal things, things that your mother probably taught you were rude to say. I thought it was mostly directed at thin people - did you ever read my rant?

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=120749771&page=4

I've come to realize it's best not to try to explain ourselves to others, just smile and give a pleasant answer. The best response I got from my rant is:
'Just say "on the contrary, I'm fitter and Healthier than I have ever been", then change the subject... They will get the message.'
In your case maybe just say "yes, I do" in a firm voice and then either excuse yourself and walk away or just turn and walk away. Seems like he was trying to be helpful but definitely crossed the line.
This goes for co-workers, casual acquaintances, strangers. Close friends and family members IMO have a bit more leeway as we would like to assume it's because they love us. I reached a point last spring where family members were telling me to stop losing that I looked good. It was a bit of a downer and was hard to fight mentally but it was true concern. I am aware that eating disorders are not reserved solely for teenage girls. Even women my age who were never anerexic before can develop these problems. I watched the scale carefully to make sure I was still within a healthy weight range. At that point in time I was still about 10lbs more than when I was in hs and college so I knew for sure all was ok. But no one knew that I was monitoring myself and so it was good that they asked.
Sorry to be so wordy. Just wanted to let u know ur not alone. Handle this the same way you would handle any other rude or unwelcome comments. Then go about ur business. Take care :)

I appreciate the input. In hindsight, I should have just smiled and walked away. I guess I had gotten so used to all the compliments I have been receiving, I was just shocked that this person (a teacher of all things) wouldn't know better than that. We expect better of those in charge of educating students (well, I do anyway:)).

Thanks to everyone who posts in here. :)

Was in Arlington, TX this weekend for some PBR action, which was awesome. The wife and I had never been to anything like that so it was a great little get away for us. Hit me while just be for we went on the trip that I should check out a gym. Found one and wasn't disappointed. That place was flat out inspiring.

184.7 Lbs today
Down 0.4 Lbs for the week.

Was doing good when I started. first 5 weeks I lost about 10Lbs, then life got in the way. Last 3 weeks I have not gotten more than 6 hours a sleep, worked 50-70 hours each week, only gotten to the gym 2-3 times a week & have basically stayed around 185Lbs. Not to mention the stress I'm going through because we are having meeting to cut staff and performance issues within my office. Next week does not get any easier either as I start classes.

BUT... I have changed up my routine to a 3 day split (from a 4), and am having to do cardio after weights (Vs morning cardio, afternoon weights).

I've also have noticed my Arms are a bit more defined, my pants are looser and when flexed I see my upper abs :D

Updated my pics in my profile since I can't inbed into the post just yet. Looking at my initial pics and logs from Jan I can definitely see progress being made both in my body and my lifts. My weight today was 178.5 so I'm up 7.5 pounds since 1/11. I'm still struggling with bringing my lunch to work and cutting back on my drinking but I've been clawing for every inch of change when possible (minimizing total alcohol intake and getting straight shots without any soda). For now I think I'm gonna continue to bulk for another month and then re-evaluate my position. Comon people March is right around the corner which means spring is on the way, it's time to kick it up a notch.

One thing I haven't noticed is even though I'm about 11 lbs lighter, I can't see any difference. Maybe its cause I see myself too often but idk. Going from almost 226 to 215 I thought I would notice something in how I look a bit more.

Im still going. Gonna work out again tonight.

Im mad I cant get a pullup bar though. The door ones wont work for my doors because of their position 1 side is always against a wall. I was gonna get one to put in the side of my bedroom wall but it has to go in wall studs and mine were something like 50 inches apart and the bar is like 54, so it cant fit in studs. I'm trying to think of another way to get a pullup bar in my bedroom.

Haven't fallen out, just so you know. I've been kinda quiet. Just struggling. Mostly with going nowhere no matter how hard I try. So I took a week. Ate 50% more carbs for the week and did absolutely no cardio. Still did a 4 day training split. Started diet and cardio back Sunday. Hopefully this will help bust me out of my plateau. Also had a blood test to check my thyroid. Will know results of that next week. I worry about it because my mother had a rough time with hers and ended up with cancer of the thyroid. She dad to have it removed a good many years back and no recurrence of cancer so that's good.

Span a 2x6 between two studs and mount your bar to that. Make sure it's secure with long enough screws.

plmoknijb
02-23-2010, 09:27 PM
Well d*mn I feel like a dummy for not thinking of something like that. My only concern would be the edges of the 2x6 snapping. I understand that it would be secure into the studs but I would be putting the bar just outside of that, I would imagine the rest of the 2x6 would be fine except the weight of me pulling on it takes lots of energy and the energy trying to find a way out may transfer to the weakest point of the structure. Its like that saying you are only as strong as your weakest link. Which may be just outside the studs. At the same time it would only stick out a few more inches and having my weight equally put in the middle of the bar and not doing them on one side would distribute it enough equally for it to be fine. I hope I don't feel funny when trying to do it. Like I hope it would feel sturdy enough so I don't feel nervous about it crashing down. Im 215 I would hope my wall could support that. Gonna get some 3 ft long screws to drill up in there lmao

Hmm kinda was thinking out loud there.
I think that a damn good idea man. You the man bro, I have been trying to get a pullup bar in my room for the longest time. I was so mad when I got that perfect pullup door one for Christmas just to realize the door frames around me wouldn't work with it. Id give ya reps but I gotta spread them around first.

Only thing is I would have to get about 2 cause of how u have to screw in at 2 different heights Its like 16 inches high. Here is a pic of the one I wanted to get:

My wife had thyroid cancer in her early 20's. Talk about a kick in the pants. It's generally pretty easy to deal with though and recurrences are pretty low.

On another note, I'm gonna have to take it easy for a few weeks myself. Tweeked my back a couple days ago and have got get it straightened out before I can do anything again. Last time this happened I ended up in the hospital for a week, but got out of there without surgery. I know I won't be as lucky this time if I go back so I need to get this worked out. I will stick with my diet for sure though. Hopefully this will just add a few weeks to my cutting phase. Keep after it everybody. I'll be back

I couldn't find info on how much the pullup bar supported. The same company makes an adjustable one that supports 350, so I assumed the regular one must be close. I had to email the manufacturer to find out. The one I posted here only supports up to 250. I mean da*n I'm not 250, but Im like 214ish now I don't wanna be that close to the limit.

I may have to shell out extra dough for the adjustable one. I hope the length of it is ok and it comes out of the wall enough. I have seen too many of those where after u put it up the bar is too close to the wall.

Hmm seems this adjustable one is 48 inches long. I may be able to put it up right into the wall. Comes out 16 inches from the wall too which is good.

Down to 186 this morning (64 lbs lost in total). Yet, lifts continue to rise. At this point, I am wondering if I am just pushing it harder than ever, and my lifts are going up just due to sheer determination. I guess I won't put too much thought into "why" they are going up, and just be thankful for my new found energy (too much sometimes) and motivation level. Usually at this point, I begin to feel like I can go back to what I was doing, and still be where I want to be. That thought (other than it being a reminder for me to keep going), has been the furthest thing from my mind.

Cheat meal coming tomorrow. Prime rib and maybe, just maybe, a potato. More than likely, some veggies, but we'll see,

Stunning and confusing week this week. No working out at all, no weights still (still off due to injury), and no cardio at all. Working long hours this week and just let it all go. Really poor on the diet and all that.

Surprise was weighing in and finding 2.5 lb loss for the week. Had to recheck 4 times as was not feeling that positive about it all considering the week. I guess the body does strange things every now and then when you give it something out of right field. I'll take it as an anomoly and knuckle down as of tomorrow.

At this point I know I'm way behind my overall goals, and I understand what has gone wrong and where, but refuse to make any excuses or justifications. Flat out just failed to meet expectations. Still a long way to go, and I WILL get there, just may take a little longer.

To all who are kicking it, congrats.
To those in my position, keep at it, it will come. We just gotta work harder/smarter to reap the rewards.

I got real sick and lost almost 10 pounds, but I am pretty sure it was not fat. I worked out for the first time this week, and felt sooo weak. The only up side is, I am sore again and thats nice. But damn, all that hard work and its gone in 2 weeks.

I weigh 214.4 this week.

Man this month has sucked. I been closer to 1 pound each week instead of my goal of 2.

I had minor surgery on my feet because of really bad ingrown toenails on Thursday. They have always made it hard for me but I worked out anyway. After the surgery though I couldn't do anything. Haven't done anything in like 3 days. I wont be able to do cardio for at least 2 weeks.
Either today or 2morrow I will go back to lifting. I cant do pushups cause of my toes. I can still do squats though. I think I can workout all my muscles without my feet getting in the way.

It sucked cause the needles they put in my toes to get them numb hurt like a b*tch. Get this the first time wasn't enough so they did it a second time which still wasnt enough. I had to get 3 doses of the numbing stuff for it to work, which was around 9-12 shots per toe total, and at one point I still felt pain. It was minor but it didnt hurt as much as those dam* needles.

Just curious. How many of you are still out there with the 2010 Challenge? I've noticed some of the regulars from early on have been inactive for a while. Who's still with it?

I'm still here :)
Training is great!
Diet: so so
I'm trying to reach the point where the good days and the bad days balance each other out each week.
Progress pics on the way.

I don't post often, but I'm still here. Motivation is waning a little, though. I thought I was doing good when I leg pressed 190 lbs at the end of my 10th week (I use machines), until I read in a weightlifting book that beginners can expect to leg press 220% of their body weight after 12 weeks, and bench 90% of body weight after 8 weeks! Needless to say, both are lagging.

So I'm taking time off to go mess about in the gym (I'm currently in the process of scheduling time with a personal trainer at my gym to learn proper form on the compound lifts) and hopefully begin using the free weights. I've watched lots of videos, but I don't even know the basic things like how to secure barbells with collars, or adjust a squat rack (did I mention that I had never lifted a weight before???), and I don't want to damage gym equipment because of my ignorance.

It also does not help that I do not see any appreciable changes in the mirror, not even after I didn't look at reflection for 4 weeks. But I know my legs are developing, because the legs of my jeans and my, ahem, underwear are getting tight. That's nice and all, but my legs have always been bigger compared to the rest of my body, so I really, really wish my upper body would follow suit. Apparently it hasn't.

I still row about 2x a week, and I'm still gaining weight. I've now put on 18 lbs in 11 weeks. Not too shabby.

me, haven't really been on here much. I know what i've got to do and to b honest i'm gettin really stressed about it. Getting loads stronger, but trying to gain body weight is kickin my ass. I'll b here tho till the end and after.

My avatar is a pic from jan of me but uploaded a progress pic last night which is on my bodyspace. Really annoying to see that i've pretty much gained nothing.

Glad to hear there are some others out there still getting after it. I think I'm going to start hitting the cardio hard again this weekend since my back is slowly feeling better. Looking to post some progress pics over the next few weeks. Keep after everybody because you can change your body!

I musta been standing on the scale with too much pressure sometime these last few weeks. I was working hard and not seeing anything. My toes still hurt from that surgery and I did practically 0 exercise this week because of it. I was 214.4 last week, this week I am 211.0
That's been the most weight I have lost in a week since I started and I didn't exercise, I half expected to gain weight. Makes me think I was stepping on the scale too hard and putting extra pressure on it. I think my other numbers from previous weeks were off. Now way I lost 3.4 lbs in a week doing no exercise. I was not eating that little.
I'm very happy I'm down to 211, but annoyed with the scale thing.

One diff in my diet this past week is I have been having more fiber. idk if that alone could do it with no exercise.

I hate the scale. :) I will tell you however that I lost the first 30 of my 64 lbs with nothing more than a few walks during the week with my wife. No lifting, no real cardio. Just walking about three miles two-three times a week.

I am planning a 30 day break from the scale after tomorrow.

Good job on the loss. Feels good I know. :)

Definite progress! You should be very happy with yourself. Just like that you went from being a normal person to looking better than 99% of people out there. Stick with because whatever you are doing is working. Great job!

What's up Pack, Ruben, Jeremy, guys and gals!

I've just started my springtime transformation for summer. I'm planning to get up on stage in a year or two, so I'm practicing dieting down for a show. The extra mass will come with time, but IMO one can never get enough cutting practice!

Keep at the transformations! Set a specific goal for yourselves, like losing X amount of pounds, gaining an inch on your arms, fitting into that summer bikini. Just make it something attainable, so you're not setting yourself up for disappointment. The bodybuilding lifestyle is not a means to an end, but rather an endless series of small goals we set and attain for ourselves, which are collectively improving our mind and body for the better.... over time.

I lost my PC, so its been since before the competetion even kicked off since I've been able to post, I've been reasonably good for the first 3 months of the year, but haven't seen as good a results as I'd liked. I cut out all soda from diet, aswell alcohol except on very special occassions. I try to eat clean and as healthy as I can. I'm not sure exactly where I was when the year started my guess is around 270. I weighed in today at 253.5 so its coming off albeit a bit slower than I'd like but, since I reasonably don't have an end time goal in mind, losing weight of any amount is success for me.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that due to some financial issues I was unable to join a gym until March, so most of my progress has been just diet, with the body-weight exercises, the few free weights I have at home, and a somewhat active lifestyle.

Hope it goes well for you! I've been cutting so long this last 4 weeks I just gave up. My diet isn't bad food, but it is more food and not such a tiny amount of carbs. My weight is back up, but people say I still look leaner. Dunno about that, but I know I have gained muscle and my belly looks no bigger. So hopefully as I start bring back some cardio into my routine in the next weeks the fat will come off some.

Quick check in. We went on a "planned" Pizza bender yesterday. Had 5 pieces. Man did that feel good. Woke up today 1 full pound lighter than yesterday morning. Did a nice hanging leg ab workout this morning (my new best friend...the hanging leg raise).

Since I have been building my gym, I have been finding things in my house I had forgotten about. Yesterday, we dug out our very old (and barely used) Power Rider. This is a device sold on TV to fatties, back when infomercials were coming into vogue. Anyway, I cleaned it up, oiled it up, and by god, that thing actually gives you a good cardio workout if you do it long enough. I think I will use this as my pre-workout warm-up routine (maybe 5-10 minutes as a way to stretch everything out before I get going). I workout out at 5 am, and the old muscles are pretty tight upon first waking up. :)

Keep going guys.

How's it going Iron? Good luck with cutting and getting up on stage, I don't know if I could do that. Maybe in time.

I'm still here. Feb was one HELLVA month for me...Schedule went to pot, so I was lucky to get to the gym twice a week, really was not tracking what I ate and was getting 3-6 hours of sleep

The result was this:
Christmas - end of Jan: lost 10 Lbs
February 2010: Gained 5 Lbs
First 2 weeks of March: lost 5lbs (currently at 185.3Lbs)

It works out because my goal was to drop 15Lbs by the end of March. If I keep loosing at this rate, I'll hit it. However, looking at my current body comp, I'm thinking I may stay on the cut for an extra 10 Lbs... And having a friend (and a few people on another board here) that ran a cycle of Clen does not help my mindset...

Was 211.0 last week
211.4 this week.
.4 lb gain. Second time since I started 2.5 months ago where I gained in a week.

No excuse, it was just laziness. After I slap myself I will get back on track. Gotta learn how to push myself more and do what I need to those times I don't feel like it and take the easy way out.

I've done solid this week ate clean, and hit the gym on my scheduled times. Weight was down to 248 this week, so making good progress and arms/legs feel stronger although no visible improvements. I started taking a fish oil supplement because I've had more than usual soreness and cramping, and one of the guys who I look up to in the fitness category told me that it helped him with soreness...im still undecided as to its effect on me, but as all things I'm sure it'll get better with time.

Nope, not in the military. I am a contractor for FEMA. I used to be in the Military though. Thanks for your service.

Hitting the gym tonight for the first time in well... awhile. Motivation is definitely there, guess I won't have the summer muscles ready until probably Fall, but its all good.
