So I did my first show on October 17th, I weighed in at around 175 with around a size 34 waist. Since then my weight has gone up to around 205 but my waist has stayed at a 34 obviously they are a little tighter but not like I have to move up a size. My question is, is this a good way to figure out if I am gaining to fast or gaining a lot of fat? Since my show I have been very very paranoid about this, and without having a coach to guide me I have been flying solo and trying to figure things out on my own, I am planning on getting a coach around the beginning of December for a show in early 2011.

Any help/input anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I would go by the mirror. Or take some back/front shots each week or every 2 weeks so you have something to compare.

If you gained 30lbs in 1 month I would say that is definitely too fast and your bound to put on a lot of fat. I would slow it down to 1lb a week MAX.

Thanks for the input, that was my intention and I know I screwed up big time by going back to, to many calories to fast, I have since cut them back and have been adding back in slowly. I am having a tough time telling if I am doing ok or what I feel like when I see myself in the mirror I see a fat blob but people who see me now say I dont look fat at all. I compared myself now to when I was at this weight before I feel like I look more muscular and like I am heading the right direction.

LOL sounds like you have it covered now. Also it was your first show. LOL I remember shortly after my first show also. You get so used to seeing yourself scredded, then you start eating more and it goes away and you get deprest because you arn't shredded anymore and think you look fat boy. LOL Welcome aboard the BBers life. LOL You get used to it. Just keep a handle on it like you did. Good job catching it and taking control.

Don't be afraid to add mass,..just be sensible about it,..you dieted for your first show,..so you been there, done that,..now buckle up and get back in the saddle again!

Definately gaining too fast. Youre gonna put on a chunk of weight straight out of the hole, but it should taper sharpely after the first week and then you really dont want to put on more than a lb or so a week.....the further along you get the more you really want to stay within those limits. You can only add so much muscle and you might put back a good chunk of muscle you lost right away, but your also very prone to adding lots of fat in that time as well.

I think we did the same show, BTW.....the Olympus, right?

Ya I am learning things the hard way right now but glad I caught the problem now before gaining a ton back in the end. My diet hasnt been all that clean, its been very very tough coming out of almost 1.5 yrs of pretty strict clean eating minus a few days here and there whatever. I have had a huge struggle with over indulging, which I am trying to get under control.

And ya I did first time bodybuilding, definitely was not lean enough but wanted to get the experience and see if I wanted to do it again and well as you can see I am HOOKED.

Trust me, I know the feeling. I have a very hard time controlling my appetite for junk. I did one more show after the Olympus and I have been fighting the rapid weight gain for the past two weeks. Its hard.....especially with the holidays coming up.

I saw your before pics, you came a long way man, congrats! Unfortunately because of where you came from and your body type you're likely to be more sensitive to carbs then fat gain post contest so you'll have to be more disciplined than some of us. Good news is you're also likely to retain/gain muscle easier. Glad you're hooked, it's a great lifestyle.

See here is where I am a little confused though on my body type all through HS/College I never went past 200lbs but I was also very active and never drank. Then I hit 21ish started drinking, started to live a much more sedentary lifestyle and over about 7 years added the extra 100lbs, so would I still be classified as an endomorph or would I be more a mix of endo and meso?

I never thought this would be something I would have gotten hooked on, but it is a great lifestyle and a lot more rewarding to know what I can put myself through.

In that case you're likely a mix. But really, no one is 100 percent anything so don't worry too much about the label.
