As I like to say, small Amherst. Everyone knows everyone...then again, this is the internet, so it is a little strange. Check your AIM.

Yeah, but look at Amherst. This town is completely superficial, and every guy is jacked (those who get regular pussy anyway). So, it might not be a coincidence that ppl obsessed with lifting and cycling would be on bb.com. Funny how we're publicizing conversational threads on posts rather than AIM.

Anyone here from Boston? I live in the Brighton area. Also, I'm thinking about starting a bbing related buiness in the Boston area (bodybuilding food shop or supp store), but I obviously want someone else in on it with me. I have the know how, especially for the first of the two. PM me if you're interested. There is a bodybuilding/health food store with great wraps and meals close to where I live that rakes in tons of $, and I think I can do even better with an even more diverse menu.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM BOSTON WHEN...

You think of Philadelphia as the Midwest.

You think it's your God-given right to cut someone off in traffic.

You think there are only 25 letters in the alphabet (no R's).

You think three straight days of 90+ temperatures is a heatwave.

All your pets are named after Celtics or Bruins.

You refer to 6 inches of snow as a "dusting."

Just hearing the words "New York" puts you in an angry mood.

You don't think you have an attitude.

You always 'bang a left' as soon as the light turns green, and oncoming traffic always expects it.

Everything in town is "a five minute walk."

When out of town, you think the natives of the area are all whacked.

You still can't bear to watch highlights from game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

You have no idea what the word compromise means.

You believe using your turn signal is a sign of weakness.

You don't realize that you walk and talk twice as fast as everyone else.

You're anal, neurotic, pessimistic and stubborn.

You think if someone is nice to you, they must want something or are from out of town.

Your favorite adjective is "wicked."

You think 63 degree ocean water is warm.

You think the Kennedy's are misunderstood.

WHEN WE SAY ________ WE MEAN...

Bizah - odd

Flahwiz - roses, etc.

Hahpahst - minutes after the hour

Hahwahya? - how are you?

Khakis - what we staht the cah with

Pissah - superb

Retahded - silly

Shewah - of course

Wikkid - extremely

Yiz - you, plural

Popcahn - popular snack

HOW WE'LL KNOW YOU WEREN'T BON HEAH:

You wear a Harvard sweatshirt.

You ask directions to "Cheers."

You order a grinder and a soda.

You follow soccer.

You eat at Durgin Park.

You pronounce it "Worchester" or Glouchester."

You call it "COPELY" square.

DEFINITIONS:

Frappes have ice cream; milk shakes don't.

If it's fizzy and flavored, it's tonic. Soda is club soda. Pop is dad. When we mean tonic WATER, we say tonic WATER.

The smallest beer is a pint.

Scrod is whatever they tell you it is, usually fish.

If you paid more than $6 a pound, you got scrod.

It's not a water fountain, it's a bubblah.

It's not a trash can, it's a barrel.

It's not a shopping cart, it's a carriage.

It's not a purse, it's a pockabook.

Brown bread comes in a can. You open both ends, push it out, heat it and eat it with baked beans.

They're not franks, they're haht dahgs. Franks are money in France.

THINGS NOT TO DO:

Don't call it Beantown.

Don't pahk your cah in Hahvid Yahd. They'll tow it to Meffa (Medford) or Slumaville (Sommerville).

Don't swim in the Charles, no matter what Bill Weld tells you.

Don't sleep in the Common.

Don't wear orange in Southie on St. Patrick's Day.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

There are two State Houses, two City Halls, two courthouses and two Hancock buildings (one old, one new).

Route 128 is also I-95. It is also I-93.

It's the Sox, The Pats (or Patsies if they're losing), the Seltz, the Broons.

The underground train is not the subway. It's the T and it doesn't run all night (fah chrysakes, this ain't Noo Yawk).

GETTING AROUND:

Pay no attention to the street names. There's no school on School Street, no court on Court Street, no dock on Dock Square, no water on Water Street. Back Bay streets are in alphabetical odda. Arlington, Berkeley, Clarendon, Dartmouth. So are South Boston streets: A, B, C, D.

If the streets are named after trees (Walnut, Chestnut, Cedar), you're on Beacon Hill. If they're named after poets you're in Wellesley.

All avenues are properly referenced by their nicknames: Comm Ave, Mass Ave., Dot Ave.

Dot is Dorchester, Rozzie Roslindale, JP is Jamaica Plain. Readville doesn't exist.

THE NORTH-EAST-SOUTH-WEST THING:

Southie is South Boston. The South End is the South End. Eastie is East Boston. The North End is east of the West End.

The West End and Scollay Square are no more-a guy named Rappaport got rid of them one night.

The geographical center of Boston is in Roxbury. Due north of the center we find the South End. This is not to be confused with South Boston, which lies directly east from the South End. North of the South End is East Boston and southwest of East Boston is the North End. Backbay was filled in years ago.

BASIC RULES FOR DRIVING IN BOSTON
(subject to change at any time):

When on a one way street, stay to the right to allow oncoming traffic to pass.

Never, ever, stop for a pedestrian unless he flings himself under the wheels of your car.

The first parking space you see will be the last parking space you see. Grab it.

Double park in the North End of Boston, unless triple parking is available.

Learn to swerve abruptly. Boston is the home of slalom driving, thanks to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

Never get in the way of a car that needs extensive bodywork.

Always look both ways when running a red light.

Honk your horn the instant the light changes.

Breakdown lanes are not for breaking down, but for speeding, especially during rush hour. Breakdown lanes may also end without warning causing traffic jams as people merge back in.

Never use directional signals when changing lanes. They only warn other drivers to speed up and not let you in.

Making eye contact revokes your right of way.

Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right.

Whenever possible, stop in the middle of a crosswalk to ensure inconveniencing as many pedestrians as possible. And if a pedestrian ahead of you steps in the road, speed up loudly and chase him back up on the curb. Peds have no rights.

Hey guys, I was a goon and posted my own post looking for a partner. Funny thing, was that I read this post and am not sure why I didn't post here in the first place. Anyway, I am looking for a serious partner. Currently I am training at the Golds in Woburn. I know this is a long shot, but I am sick of training (if thats what you call it) with people who either: don't show up, spend more time looking at girls, or do two sets out of eight or ten. If anybody is interested, let me know.

And by the way, to the lady from NH, you can avoid 128 to Peabody by taking 93S to 125 to 114 all the way to Peabody. May seem long at first, but once you know the route, it beats sitting in traffic.

Thanks. I used to work at the North Shore Mall and always took 114 from 495 to get there. It takes the same amount of time, just different traffic (it would actually be longer because I have to get to Centennial Park). 114 annoys me more because there is no passing lane :D It's a nice break for the drive home sometimes though.

I don't know if you guys get Ron Harris' Daily Pump, but he has planned an outing for bb'ers at Hampton next weekend. I copied this from the email:

"And finally, the big news if you live in New England, specifically Massachusetts or New Hampshire - the date for Muscle Beach Day at Hampton Beach has been set! Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 25. Yes, it's only a week and one day away, so we had all get on our diets and cardio! Just kidding. This is not a competition and no awards will be given out. You are welcome whether you are a bodybuilder, powerlifter, fitness or Figure competitor, or just love to work out and want to meet and hang out with others who share your passion/obsession with working out and eating right. It doesn't matter if you compete or not, use steroids or don't, are in off-season or pre-contest mode, have long hair or no hair - ALL are welcome and I want to see a lot of you up there! We never get to see each other outside of gyms and contests in a more relaxed setting where we can just kick back and relax.

As for a meeting place, I'll do my best here to make this easy. Most of us will be setting up blankets and chairs and all that (and coolers, can't forget the coolers). There is a cement ramp/walkway leading out on to the beach next to the central area where the little police station and lookout tower, tourist information, and stage for live music is. Let's all try to set up camp at the end of that walkway and to the left, if you were looking east toward the ocean. If you see a bunch of buffed people, you'll know this thing worked and we got some folks together. Let's all be there no later than noon - though I am pretty sure after ten AM parking becomes very hard to find as all the lots fill up. It's probably going to be extra crowded next weekend because we have been having rain and overcast days for a while, including the forecast for this weekend.

There are no planned activities, this is as casual as can possibly be. I imagine around five or so we will all invade a restaurant together and make all the regular people wonder what the heck is going on. As for a rain date, there is none and let's all pray for sun!"

From Ron Harris' email:
"Dear friends,

I hate to hype something up and then cancel it, but it had to be done. . .

It is with deep regret that I am hereby postponing Muscle Beach Day this coming Sunday July 25 at Hampton Beach. The reason is that the various weather forecasts all now say the same thing: cloudy with a 40 percent chance of rain, and temperatures only in the 60's. That means it will probably be in the low 60's up there by the ocean. I would still be willing to chance it, but Janet has made it clear she is boycotting any jaunts to the coast with such a gloomy outlook on the horizon. She has a very low tolerance for cool weather, being Latin and all. We will have to try this again sometime toward the end of August, maybe the 22 or 26. I know this has no bearing on most of the Pump readers who are nowhere near New England, but this region is infamous for its raw weather. Even in the summer it's tough to plan any outdoor activities. Look on the bright side - this at least gives all of us who were planning on going to Hampton a little more time to get in shape!"

Looking for fitness chicks who like to train in swimsuits. (Who isn't?) We will probably have to wear our street clothes to get into TGIF, though. :)

OMG...

dalec1081,

Dr. Who sends his greetings by way of the Brigadier. Ha, Ha. :)

OMG?... Swimsuit exercise is pretty tame. Back in my undergraduate college days in western MA, streaking was pretty popular. The height of the campus streaking craze came when the school newspaper snapped a front page picture of a coeducational gang of student streakers launching an assault on the student center. The mob successfully penetrated the entrance, streaked thru the building, and went out the other exit as part of a campus excursion. It was good running exercise, but they weren't wearing swimsuits. (At least one of the other organized streaking campaigns included doing a disciplined set of calisthenics and pushups in the student quad area.) A few streakers, operating singly or in groups small enough to be challenged were unfortunate enough to get nabbed by the cops. One moral here is don't forget to do speed work; it can cost you. :) These stories are true... Ah, but just like Dragnet, the names have been changed to protect the innocent - that is if there were any. :)

(As for shapeshifting, we are in New England, Native American Country, the land of ghosts and vampires. We can let the historians, goths, and Native Americans explain this stuff for us. :) Just kidding. That last part was only a joke. Wierd all the same, so I will save others the trouble of saying it.) Best regards to all in MA, north, south, east, and west!

I'm looking for a workout partner on the South Shore of Massachusetts. Norton/Mansfield area to be more precise. I currently work out by myself in the early AM (when the gym opens at 5:00) due to my hectic schedule.

I'm certified by the ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) as a Certified Fitness Trainer. I'm looking for a FEMALE that takes her training seriously. Sorry guys! I have nothing against the men but often find women to be more dedicated to their training. Not to mention more reliable, lolol

I'm looking for that someone that can motivate my workouts as I will theirs. Someone that can motivate me to squeeze out that last repetition, do an extra 15 minutes of cardio. Are you that individual?

If your serious please contact me at pumpfit@aol.com. Please, serious inquiries only. I'm not looking to waste anyones' time or have anyone waste mine in return.

We can make arrangements from there.

Originally from Raynham, but recently moved to Lynn (lynn lynn city of sin...). I workout at the Bally's in Revere. I pretty much hate it there, but I drive right by it going to and from work so it is convenient. It may as well be a bring your own dumbbell gym.

Hey sorry for the late response. World gym seems to be one of the more popular ones around here, many younger faces, not the kind of place you will see steady body builders. Lots of college students and mostly new comers. As far as equipment, there are plenty of cardio machines and a good verity of weights.
Baystate has more of an old fashion feel to it, more of a gym for some serious weight lifters.

I'm making the move to Golds gym this weekend. Great prices for students and its open til 11pm on weekdays, just what I was looking for with full time work and school.

Only good thing about Worcester is the amount of gyms available and plenty of traffic free routes that I found if you do some running.

I used to go to the YMCA on Washington St. or Gold's Gym on Lansdowne, or use the weights at the armory on Victory Rd when I was in the Guard.. WorkOut World in Medford is where I tend to scare people these days.. :D

Hm.. there is a new LA Fitness being opened in Saugus about a mile or two closerto home than the crappy Ballys in Revere I go to now. I was thinking of moving when it opens unless it is a thousand bucks a month. Ironically Ballys just sent me a thing in the mail saying they'd lower my monthly rate to $19/month.
