My Story :

I graduated high school in 1997 , I was 5ft 2 and 120lbs. I played Football my entire life up till 10th grade . I made some bad decisions in my own life between the ages of 16-28 but now I have turned my life around I have completed 30 credits at my local CC with a 3.4GPA and have enrolled for Spring 2010 in a small private D3 school here in VA.I played basketball at my local CC and started and was able to compete with guys alot younger than me. I just got in to lifting weights and working toward my dream of playing college football in the last year or so . I went from 6ft 140 to 6ft 175 , i cut some of that out as I felt like I was gettin a little gut and am now at 6ft 164. Classes start for me Jan 19th and that is when I will be able to officially join the football team , my goal is to be as close to 190 as possible , I feel a good playing weight for me would be between 185 & 200. I have talked to the coaches , they know my story and are the ones who actually encouraged me to come there in jan. instead of finishing my associates at my cc so that I could go through offseason conditioning and spring practice with the guys.
My lifts are currently Bench 175lbs , squat 275 deadlift 335 military press 115. I ran a hand timed 4.8 at Parissi speed schol back in march with horrible form .
I am using this to track my progress through out my journey. I am lifting 4 days a week and doing plyo/ speed and conditioning drills 2 days a week. My goal is to earn some playing time next fall and be able to contribute , my long term goal is to graduate with my degree in sports mngmnt and become a gard asst coach at a d1 school . all yea I am also eating a ton of food !!!

Congratulations on the turnaround, great job in school and good luck with the program. IMO, you're going to need to get those numbers up to compete at the collegiate level. Best of luck mang!

What's ur max for bench?

175 ... and I was told to start off trying to lift 70% of that for 8 reps then add weight each week , which would be 125 but when I got to the gym yesterday my ego convinced me to try 135 .... for 3 X 6 ... so next week I 'll try the 125 for 3 X 8 ... I really want to be able to get my bench up to the 200 pound range . I am also focusing more onkeeping my elbows in and my arms tucked when performing bench presses.

Just a little bit of my 2 sense man, I'd stick w/ the trap bar if your a DB. Obvious not a huge difference like most things but the trap bar seems to hit your hips and glutes more which is good for us DBs b/c we need that foot work

Thanks man. I don't look 30 and I don' t feel 30 . I am in the best shape of my life and I am fortunate that none of the dumb decisions I made in the last 12-14 years had any lasting negative side effects lol. Man look at people like Dara Torres, Mark Martin and Brett Farve They are older than the average person in their sport and they are still getting it done at a very high level. I also heard a couple of years ago there was an ex- army ranger who made the football team at The University of South Carolina at age 39 . Good luck to you man. The most important part is to write down your goals and get a plan . A goal is simply a dream but with a plan instead of a wish.

Hudson -

I need to somebody to run routes against! My bro can throw the passes but I need a DB to go up against why don;t you live closer!

wow been a while since I updated this ....

In my 1st semester at my new university. Have been weightlifting with the guys from the football team . Our workouts are MWF strength training and tues /thurs we do core and cardio . All of this under the supervision of our coaches. We have workout groups of 3 and designated , mandatory lifting times. It has been a lot of fun and very intense much more so than goin to the gym and knocking out a few sets on your own. Every friday the coaches give out a snickers bar to the guy who has had the best workout week for each group , this past friday I won for our group. My bench is up to 205 I am up to 186lbs. They would like to se me be around 200lbs when spring semester ends. If the semester were to end today I would have straight A's. I am taking 16 credit hours. We start spring practice in 3 weeks. Myself and some of the other wr/db guys are going thru one on ones later today so I am anxious to see how I compare to the guys. I have been nicknamed POPS lol .

Thanks to everybody on here for your support!

I made it thru the spring! Spring Practices were alot of fun even though D3 does not use pads in the spring.Out for summer now, working on my acceleration and route running. Ran a 4.77 hand timed 40 , a 4.56 shuttle, Benched 215 , front squatted 280 and hang cleaned 195. Ready to work hard over the summer and try to be the most improved player from spring to camp !

wanted to post a few pics from our final spring practice , also just got my grades 4 A's and a B ( stupid anatomy and physiology class lol) 3.75 GPA should give me a good shot at making all academic team in the fall.

So far this summer I have been hitting the gym hard on mon, wed and fri and been doing speed , agility and wr drills on tues, thurs and saturdays... really trying to work on my acceleration so I get on those DB's toes quicker. Have also switched to keto diet and dropped some bf% and weight down to bout 165 but so far I have kept most of my strength.

I plan on going back to a regular high carb diet about 3 weeks before camp starts ... anybody got any tips for camp?

Besides show up in shape .... I got that covered ... gotta love running 110's and sideline gassers lol

update : well I survived my first season , I had 11 catches a lil over 80 yards and 1 TD . I also broke my leg with two weeks to go , on kickoff coverage team in practice. I broke my left fibula , it's healed up now and I am back in the weight room and getting ready for next year. I made straight A's this semester and have an overall GPA of 3.88. At our end of year banquet I won the T52 award which is given in memory of a former player who died in a auto accident. The award recognizes the guy opn the team who works hard , does everything the coaches ask of him and has a positive impact on his teamates. Without question 2010 was the most rewarding year of my life ......now onto 11 ... pics to follow , Thanks to everybody here for their support and encouragement ... tough to find time to update it during the season.
