My wife is trying to tighten her hamstring area as well as the outside of her thigh. She is pretty small (5-4, 120) and after having our two children she is trying to find something that will effectively tighten these trouble areas. Any ideas? We have an eliptical here and that is not working at all.

She should try some light squats and leg press for overall quad development. Stiff deads, curls and lunges will target the hams to a greater degree. Lunges, lunges, and more lunges.

Anything that would work similar to lunges that does not put stress on the knees? She says this really hurts her knees and she has done these in the past.

The best way to protect your knees is building muscle and staying away from exercises like running and jumping. The elliptical should be a part of her exercise program to help burn some fat, but it won't build any muscle.
