Before posting this, I did a search in this forum for other threads pertaining to hair removal. I always thought that bodybuilders remove their body hair by waxing it. It seems like most people shave it or use nair. When the time comes for me to do this, I don't want to shave my body hair because that would kind of seem like it would really suck with having razor burn all over my body, not to mention that it will become noticable within a day or two again when it starts growing back. I'm not to keen on using nair because I really don't want to be putting burning chemicals on my body. Wouldn't waxing seem to be the best way? I want opinions since I've never done hair removal before, and to me waxing seems like the best way. And I wouldn't mind my body hair growing back less thick and much finer. I'm a hairy guy and anyone who goes into my profile and looks at my "before" pictures that I posted will see that (haven't posted "after" pictures yet. Doesn't waxing make the hair grow back less thick and finer and maybe even sparser? Does anyone else here wax their body hair? And this last question which I'm about to ask is a big one......can I wax at home without having to go to a place to have this done, and if so, where can I buy the things I need to wax my own body hair?

I'd wax, but do it a few days before hand because the redness can stand out for quite a while, also i'd go to a proper waxing salon, i don't got the balls to be ripping hair off my body lol, and professionals would be the least painful and quickest.

I'm getting a wax done on Tuesday for a competition next Sunday. I've been told to moisturize a couple of times a day starting today, and to exfoliate and moisturize for a couple of days after the wax in order to open up the pores and prevent in grown hairs.

Hopefully this works. I've never had a wax done before.

How much do they charge? And do they do everything? Like what I mean is, do they stop at the underwear line or do they do the buttocks and continue down to your legs? Or do they stop at the top of the underwear and start again on the legs beneath the underwear, where if you took off your underwear, you'd be hairless, but still have a hairy ass/buttocks? Does anyone you know try waxing themselves, and if so, do you know where they buy the supplies they need?

If its your first time definitely go to a salon. Make sure there certified and everything looks clean. When it comes to your hair 1/4 of an inch is how long it should be, so if its longer take some trimmers and trim it. The longer the hair, the more painful it is. If its too short the wax can't grab it. Some ibuprophen before hand probably isn't a bad idea either since its an anti-inflamitory and takes some of the redness out. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am waxing and I have tried it myself and at salons. Doing it yourself is a big mess and results in a bad job. Going to a salon is quick, efficient and gives you good results. Depending on how much area you want to wax it may cost you several hundred dollars but it's worth it in my opinion. Start waxing smaller areas and then progress to larger areas. Waxing the first time is paninful. It gets better when you keep doing it and after a while it hardly hurts at all. Your skin may be red and bumpy afterwards which may last a couple of days. Some areas of the body are more painful to wax than others; especially the 'bikini area'. Try a small patch first and see how it goes. Good luck to you.
