I suck at journaling.
Just thought I'd tell anyone who might be following along from the start that I'm not very good at this. :D I'm not very good at cooking either, but I give it a shot - so I figured I try this a 3rd (!) time. I think one reason why I never keep up with my journals is that I find the typing in of my workout and meals very laborious - especially when I write it all down in a paper journal for me. I decided I'd try this again to keep track of my goals and to become an active member of this great online community of ladies. :)
So here we go! I joined the Sept-Dec Transformation thread and figured I'd follow Emoore's example and start a journal. I'm pretty excited to see how far everyone comes in the next few months. Here's some tidbits about me/diet/workout..
Personal: I'm 31, live in Houston (if anyone else does too, PM me!! I'd love a workout buddy!) with my boyfriend, 2 dogs and a cat. I'm a high school physics teacher. I love to play video games and read - outside of lifting weights. :) More to come laterz.
Workout: For the past 10 weeks, I've been doing a body part split workout. I like it - but it's time to change. At the end of 12 weeks, I'll be taking a week break from weights and coming back to do the "Lean and Sexy Bible" workout on this site. I've never done an upper/lower 4 day split successfully - and it looks pretty interesting. So far I've lost about 7 lbs. in 10 weeks.
Diet: I'm on a lower carb diet. I find I feel better. I used to hit a wall every afternoon energy wise - but not anymore. I have a nice steady stream of energy all day. Most excellent.
It breaks down like this usually:
Protein - 175g
Carbs - 80-100g (including vegs, fruits, pwo carbs)
Fats - 50-55g
It's usually about 1700 cals or so. I may have to lower that soon tho - my weight loss is slowing.
Goals: Long term - lose 7 lbs. by Jan 1st, run a 5 k in less than 30 mins (i'm at about 33 mins right now), do 5 unassisted pull ups (at none right now :( )
Short term - Reach over 100 lbs. on all my leg exercises - except walking lunges lol. I saw a girl at the gym do walking lunges once with 35 lb. dbs! That's my goal. My walking lunges are at 25 lb dbs. right now. It will be me - oh yes, it will be me.
Ok! I think this will do for an intro post - going to do legs today after school so I'll relay that info later.
Oh - and I'm taking progress pics this weekend - I'll try to post them. :)

I decided that in order for me to try to be better about logging my successes/failures/etc., I would forego putting down meticulous details unless I felt like it was needed for some reason. I"ll just discuss the highs and lows of each day diet and food wise. :)
Workout: Legz
Wasn't feeling it today for some reason. I really wanted to..but I couldn't make everything connect. I think its partly cuz i desperately need new workout shoes. The ones I have now look like garbage - the soles are coming off the bottom and the inside is completely worn out. It was really uncomfortable to do cardio - but I did it. I did 90 lbs. on the squats so I'm closer to my goal! :D Did 30 mins cardio.
Diet: 90% on
I had some snackies. :( There's always some kind of food in the teacher's lounge - I've been doing good to resist the cupcakes and donuts. Today I just had a couple of wheat crackers and a few pieces of the chex from chex mix. My weigh in is tomorrow - last week was 147.6 - here's hoping I'm down around a 1/2 lb.!
Oh - and supps I'm gonna be taking:
ATW Protein powder
Fish oils
Multi
Xtend
Vasocharge or jack3d (i'm off it now for a few weeks)
Estracort (i'm givng this supp a 30 day trial)

Weigh in this morning: I weigh the same. :( My measurements are the same too.
Le sigh.
I can't be too sad - I had to skip a few cardio workouts this week cuz of a KILLER migraine and I do have a bad cracker snacking habit..so I'msure I went over on cals a few days in there.
The plan of attack this week!:
Make sure I get in all my HIIT sessions as planned.
Be mindful of what passes my lips into my belly. (no snacking at work,
eat the portions that are allocated to me)
If I don't see any movement this week, I think it may be time to drop my cals a smidge lower for a bit.
I'm trying my hardest to be patient with all this.... I never have been when it comes to this stuff...but I'm getting better!

Right now I'm trying to lean out a little bit more - I could say I'm "cutting" but I'm not a fan of that word. I think only competitors REALLY "cut" - I'm really just trying to lose some body fat. :) And hit 100 lb. squats. :D

I'm certain you'll succeed at your goals. Legs are really easy to gain strength in. Just push it until you feel the screaming burning in your legs. And lotsa protein, but I can see you're getting plenty of that.
My favourite is oatmeal with pb, and peanut butter flavoured protein powder. It ALMOST feels like a cheat.

So yesterday was shoulders and abs - pretty good workout. I saw this guy at the gym who was maknig the sign of the cross before every set of bench presses. I thought I was gonna end up witnessing one helluva gym injury, but he eeked 'em out. His 'spotter' was a little lady - dunno what she would have done if he would have let that bar go - scream real loud, I guess?
I bought new shoes on the way to the gym so my run was SOOOO much better. I WAS gonna get some shox - but I really needed a shoe that could double in the weight room too. I was a little hesitant about that thin piece of plastic supporting my heel - so I passed. Anyone lift in shox?
Also! New PBs came yesterday!! I am a PB ADDICT.

So far they're all delish!! But I think I like Pb & Cos cinnamon raisin better.
The caramel apple and banana are both really fruity!
My cheat was last night so I went to a friends graduation party and had a few beers. I then went with another friend afterwards and ate mexican food - mmmhmmm! Fajitas rock.
And ritas. :D
Today is a rest day - plan on grading papers and watching a few movies. Hope everyone has an awesome sunday!

Haha! Yeah, most girls at my gym don't bench more than 10lbs on each side.
And that PB looks mighty delicious! I didn't know they came in other flavours!! :O I work at a grocery store and have yet to see that.
I also find my no fat/sugar yogurt keeps chocolate cravings down. I am a chocoholic! To the extreme!
I had my cheat as well. A lovely piece of cake! But now I can't have another cheat for a week. Unfair, really.

Wow - what a funked up day.
Today was open house at school - it was gonna start at 6 30, so I decided just not to go workout after school. I had planned on going for a run after open house (cuz I thought it ended at 7 30) but I didn't get home til 9! Yikes! That's almost 15 hours at work :(
So needless to say - didn't run, didn't do weights. Will have to move chest/back day to tomorrow this week.
Diet was a little funky too because I was at school for so long. Ended up getting a salad from subway. Not the best but not the worst either. No cheese, double chicken, ez on the dressing. And I had some crackers. :( Man..I wish I could kick my cracker addiction. I said "cracker" people...not "crack". :D
Anyways, I'm super tired - my feet feel like bloody stubs after walking in heels for 15 hours.
I'm headed to sleep..

Hmm. I think the brand was www.ilovepeanutbutter.com It was called 'the heat is on'.
That version tastes like pb with taco seasoning mixed in - so if you like that kind of flavor, go for it.
PB loco www.pbloco.com has a spicy pb that has more of a curry-ish flavor to it. I haven't tried it yet - but if you do, let me know!
The Heat Is On stuff was pretty good - but I couldn't find very much to cook with it and it didn't taste too good by itself. I eventually just threw out about 1/3 of the jar.

Today was jacked. :(
School was dull. Our lesson today was dumb - but I had to teach it. I tell my kids the lessons cant always be a carnival..sometimes we have to do some boring stuff. And today was it.
Then I went to the gym...where my lifts were all suspiciously a bit off for chest/back day. I could barely pump out a set of lat p/ds at 105 and I'm usually pretty good for at least 8 of em.
THEN I got this bright idea of taking a trial Muay Thai class at this school by my house. I've always been interested in martial arts and thought this might be cool to try out.
2 minutes into our first jabbing exercise, I roll my ankle and collapse to the mat. I had to sit out the rest of the class. I'm at home now and it's elevated with ice. I can barely walk.
At least I got 15 min warm up jog before it happend. :(
Today = teh suck.
Hopefully tmorrow if my ankle feels better, the lady said I could come back and try out their bjj class. We'll see how that goes. :)

Well, my ankle still is out of comission. Went to the dr today - she said I have a bad sprain and just need to lay off it for a week or so.
Ugh. I haven't done anything really workout wise all week! Especially cardio - I feel like a slug.
Although, I did weigh myself this AM - down 2 lbs. to 145 - no idea how! LOL
Couldn't check out the bjj class yesterday cuz of the messed up ankle. Boo.
Well, tonight is the new season of Bones! And 30 rock! WOOHOO! I'm so stoked. My bf just left to go get us take out thai food. :)
Gonna relax with my foot up the rest of the evening..

For the dairy problem, just take lactase pills. They're expensive, but WELL worth it!
Sorry to hear about your ankle. It's weird, I rolled my ankle doing calf raises with 160lbs on it, but I didn't injure it...twice! But I let a dumbell slip the wrong way and I end up with tendinitis. Pfft!
That's good news. Keep up the good work with the weight loss and I know how you feel. I rarely take days off, but I have to tomorrow, and I'm going to feel like a meat bag all day.
I LOVE Bones. Got into it last year. I love the chemistry between Booth and Bones.

Weekend update!
Ankle still hurts. It's all bruised. Yellow and purple. Lovely.
I can put more weight on it - but dunno if I'll be able to do anything tomorrow gym wise. We shall see.
Had a pretty good weekend. Went out for the cheat meal last night - had some wings. Yum! And a piece of chocolate cake. :D
The bf and I wanted to watch the UFC last night but didn't get the chance.
Today has just been a lot of lounging. :) Official weigh in this week: 146. so down 1 lb. Woohoo!

Just remember to keep icing your ankle and ease ack into things. I'm always so bad with not giving things enough time to heal.
And I love UFC! The last fight with Henderson and Bisbing. It was AWESOME!

Ok! Today was the 2nd day back at the gym.
Yesterday I went ahead and started the Lean and Sexy Bible program on this site.
I realized that switching from a body part split to an upper/lower split is quite an adjustment. But..I did the best I could. Wasn't too overly proud of the workout, but I got it done. With minimal ankle pain. :D
Since it was my first, I'm gonna go ahead and post these lifts just so peeps can see where I'm starting.
DB Bench Press - 12x27.5s, 8x30s, 10x30s
B/O Row (Barbell) - 12x60, 8x65, 10x65
DB Shoulder Press - 10x20s, 8x22.5s, 8x22.5s
Overhead Tri Ext. - 12x25, 10x30, 10x30
Barbell Bicep Curl - 8x40, 8x40, 8x40
Today was cardio day. So I did 15 mins. HIIT on the bike followed by 20 mins LISS on the elliptical. I REALLY wanted to run but didn't think my ankle would cooperate. It was starting to sting a tad at the end of the elliptical time.
I'm supposed to do lower body tomorrow. I hope I can. Maybe if I just wrap it really well tomorrow and ice it tonight I'll be good to go..
Diet has been ok the past few days. I did have half a chips ahoy cookie today :P. But I did good otherwise.
I feel a touch of sickness coming on. Great. :P If I take a week off for my ankle then have to take a week off cuz I'm sick, I'm gonna be REALLY frustrated.
Couldn't go to Muay Thai tonight due to the foot - hopefully I'll get to go next week! :D

I hate doing the eliptical! I did 15 minutes of it and wanted to die. I tried, but now I just do a cardio combination instead. Just to spice it up a little.
I really want a cheat item, but I can only afford to get my last 2 proteins in before I reach my calorie intake. Shoot!
I want to make these oatmeal pancakes and have them tonight, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning :/

Well, 1st week of LSB is almost done. Did lower body on Wed. and the 2nd upper body workout yesterday. Today I'm just gonna do some HIIT on the bike. Don't think the ankle is quite up to the jarring of sprinting.
I had to modify some of the lowerbody exercises on Wed cuz of the ol' injury. Didn't want to risk squats so I did some hack squats on the machine instead. Surprisingly enough, the lying leg curls gave me the most ankle discomfort - the curl bar hit right above the painful part on my foot. So I only ended up doing 1 set of those.
Yesterdays upper body wasn't too bad.
In addition to the LSB, I'm also doing this: http://twentypullups.com
I'm hoping it'll help me reach my 5 unassisted pullups goal. :D
Diet is ok - I did good today despite it being carnival day at school. TONS of baked goods and pizza and sodas. Major drool-age.
But I refrained.
Doing the 2nd lower body tomorrow - I'mgonna have to get creative with some exercises if the ankle doesn't hold up. We shall see.

I know how you feel about compromising your workout. I have to do the same thing with my shoulder, but I felt it buckle yesterday and now it's a bit sore. Good thing I have two days off.
And I finally went on the eliptical yesterday. I did a lower level, but I made it through!

This weekend was a lot of fun. My bf and I took a tour of a local brewery and got to sample some free beer - yum! :)
We ended up eating at Joe's Crab Shack for our cheat - not cuz we wanted to - but it was the only place around where we were that didn't have a long wait. Ugh. I'm not a fan of corporate restaurants usually :p Maybe it's cuz I worked at one for about 10 years.
Anyways, starting week two of the LSB - Today was upper body and it went pretty well.
Although, according to my twentypullups.com, today is the day I try my first pull-up!
*drum roll*
I didn't make it :(
I got about half way up and just hung there for a few secs before my muscles crapped out on me. Instead of doing a negative I did like half of a positive.
Foods are good today - my bf made a clean chicken cordon bleu. (well, kind of clean - it came from the Clean Eating mag) It was yummy!! Still hitting all the macros and calorie ranges. I'm figuring I'm getting about 1600-1700. Maybe a bit more than that on workout days.
Work is getting stressful - lots of things to do and no time to do them in. I'm hoping it won't be affecting me personally, but I can tell it kind of already has. I'm trying to remember to breathe and not feel overwhelmed - but it's really hard when there's a million things to do. :(
Wish me luck this week... hopefully I won't have a freak out. :D

Oh, that just sucks about your ankle! I've done it before. My whole ankle and foot looked dead (eww!) it was so black! So I can sympathize. One thing that helped me heal was acupuncture. Can't recommend it enough.
But I am so glad you're keeping up with your workouts anyway! Way to go :) And half a positive is better than a full negative...imho..It means you're almost there...

I too have to limit my intake. I love the stuff. Especially the flavored pbs I buy. I wanted to get some more from pbloco, but I'm not a fan of their ingredient list. :( It doesn't seem very clean to me..

I've heard great things about acupuncture..but I don't think insurance would cover it. :( I'm gonna go to the athletics trainer at school on monday maybe and see if he can't help me with some stretches or exercises I could do to strengthen it.
Okies! Besides the huge snafu at work, this week has been ok! The huge snafu = HUGE computer virus infected our school district. EVERY computer across the district is F'd up and we aren't allowed to turn them on.
Major suckage. All this happens the week that our grades are due for the students progress reports. Much more major suckage.
THey say they're working on it yada yada yada but this has been going on since Monday so no one knows WHAT to think really. IT's just super frustrating as a teacher to not be able to access technology. Ah - what did we do BEFORE the invention of computers? ;)
Anyways, workouts have been good..
Mon -upper

(was gonna work out on thurs but was at work til almost 6 (!))
fri - upper
today - lower
I'm starting to really dread lower body days. I'm supposed to do lunges today - but I sub the leg press in because I'm afraid to put all that weight on my bad ankle. I'm gonna try squats again tho - maybe I can do them now.

Alright. Weekend recap -

Sunday - Rest day. Calories were on point. Had a few bud selects at dinner tho. :( .........so I guess the cals WEREN'T on point. LOL

Good day today weight wise! Upper body and I went up a little bit in most of the lifts. Dunno what happened to my lat pulldowns tho.. Last week I did 12 reps at 90 lbs. - today I could barely do 6. :(
I did run again today - same intervals. 5 mins jog, 3 mins walk. Oddly enough, my ankle only REALLY pains me when I slow down from jogging.. Now it's kind of throbbing. :( I want to try to do HIIT in the AM. I've been taking tylenol pm at night for it and it feels FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC in the AM - for a few hours.
Bones tonight was GREAT!! <3 that show.
Food was kind of off. I did snack on some goldfish crackers. :( I have a horrible salty tooth - I love love love salty food. I couldn't resist the little smiley goldfish faces. Bastards.
Tomorrow is friday! Woohoo! Gotta go type up a test review for my students.
My sister works for Brown's in Troy NY. Don't know if you've heard of it or not, but very yummy beer :)

I'm kind of still doing CHA - same concepts - but I've added some carbs in the morning for breakfast.
Oh yes! I remember watching it for a whole 20 minutes. To be honest, I don't really know how I lasted that long. They did cry! I have done some intense workouts, myself, and trust me, I would never have blubbered about it. Maybe gritted my teeth a little.
Anyways, good to hear your ankle is getting better!
I used to watch that show every week. Now I don't think I'll do it. It used to be kind of humorous to watch Jillian make them blubber and cry - now it's painful cuz she does it ALL THE FREAKING TIME!

Have you tried Crossfit yet? I'm about to try it and was curious how well it worked. I know there are several places you can take it in houston.

Happy Sunday everyone!
Unfortunately, we do not get colombus day off at school tomorrow. Poo.
My weekend has been ok, I suppose. My bf is out of town since wednesday so I've been enjoying having the apt. to myself the past few days. :) He comes home today though. Good thing too - it's his turn to buy groceries and we have no food LOL.
Yesterday was cheat meal day! I went to have italian food with some friends. We had some calamari, then I had a chicken/tomato/mushroom pasta dish thingy. And then for dessert a small bowl of chocolate + pb ice cream. :D Delish!
Oh. And some beers in there too :p
We WERE going to see Pandorum afterwards, but it was kind of late - and one of my friends had to get back to pick her son up from the babysitters.
My bf and I might go see it tonight though..I'm excited. I love scary movies. :D I also wanna go see sorority row - I know it's gonna be horrible, but I can't help it. Cheesey horror movies make me happy. Except Saw. Saw is just plain dumb. It's getting out of control. Oh - and the Final Destination movies. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.
On to workout/diet - the important stuff. :)
Workout Friday was bueno. I DID LUNGES!!! I didn't think my ankle could handle it - but i was ok. I didn't do as much weight as I normally do, but that's alright. I felt strong just moving like that again. I did 10 reps on each leg holding 20 lb. DBs.
I also ran 3miles yesterday. Well - that's a little fib. I didn't run the ENTIRE 3 miles - (again, trying to ease the ankle into it). So I'd run for a bit, walk for a bit, etc. But I went the distance!
Calorie talk now. I weighed myself yesterday and no change. Not surprising. For some reason this week, I was ravenous - shoving crackers into my mouth, and bits of candies, and even halves of 2 sandwiches. :( I didn't know why - usually I'm not like this. So I recounted my calorie intake and realized it was a little on the low side (even with me maybe overestimating on a few things). I was only getting about 1500 - 1570 cals a day. Maybe that's why my body wanted more fuel? So in the comingi weeks, I'm gonna do 2 things.
1.) Try to shoot for about 1700 cals a day.
2.) Stop taking bc.
My pack of pills is almost done and from all the stuff I've been reading, it maybe messing up my test levels. I hvae no libido. None. Zip. Zilch. Much to my bf's dismay..:p I've been on it for a really long time (with little 1-2 mos breaks here and there) so I thought maybe I could take a break for 6 mos or so and see if it helps with the weight loss issue and my libido.
What do you girls think??

Your cheat sounds great! I'm having mine tomorrow after waiting for 8 days, which is one day longer than I would like, but hey, it's thanksgiving and I get to stuff myself with delicious food. Much of which will include chocolate. Gosh, I have an issue with chocolate...and pumpkin pie :P
And yeah, I never did like Saw, myself. I roll my eyes every time I see ANOTHER one out and just wait until I see the commercial for the next one.
Well, I just read an article about birth control and it convinced me not to go on it. The doctor told me to go on it because I get a low hemiglobin count afterwards, but the lack of weightloss and muscle gain would really deter me. And I have enough trouble losing weight as it is.

Hey ladies -
Sorry i haven't posted lately - things have been crazy busy! i'm still here tho - and still going to workout when I'm supposed to, still eating right, etc. :D
Got on the scale this AM and it was 142.2 - so down 2 lbs! But I don't think that's right because last night I was so tired, I passed out before dinner and slept for 14 hours!!! So I'm sure the fact that I missed some food + I slept for forever made my weight lower than normal this AM - I'll see how it stacks up next saturday :)
Need to go to the gym today to do lower body. Was supposed to go yesterday but as I mentioned, I passed out :p After the gym, I get to go shopping and then to a friend's bachelorette party this evening. Not too excited about it honestly.. I hate those things :p But she would be hurt if I didn't go, sooooooo I will!
I'll post in everyone's journal later..I'm already behind schedule this AM..lol

I.ve never tried green bean casserole. It sounds yummy, though!
I might have some lean ground beef, cheese, tomato sauce and rice. Like its own casserole!

Howdy peeps! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday! :D
Everything this week is going great! On Sunday had a little slip up. There is this carne asada place by my house and really - they ahve the best chicken. With rice, beans and tortillas of course. :D But it only happens about once a month that I get it - so I think that's ok. :)
All those carbs must have helped cuz Monday's workout was kicking! I'm in week 5 and this is when I drop the reps to 6-8. I was able to do 50 lb. barbell curls! AWESOME! So proud of myself. I saw a girl at the gym do 60 lbs. once - I wanna be like that.
Also, yesterday, I managed to get my first leg lift to 100 lbs! (one of my goals - see the first post) It was my SLDLs. Woot. My squats are at 90, my leg ext. at 85, and my leg curls at 90. Lunges = 25 lbs. DBs still. :( Leg Press will be at 185 this week (but this one doesn't count in the 'over 100' category - it's always been like that).
This week is gonna be crazy! Tea party on Friday followed by an early Halloween party, then ANOTHER party on Saturday..we'll see if I can hold it together. I'm afraid to weigh myself on Saturday.. after the Sunday chicken cheat I'm afraid it'll be way too high!
Also, I need some suggestions for a good halloween costume! My boyfriend and I were gonna do Hugh Hefner + Playboy bunny, but the bunny costume didn't work out too well. :p

Wow, that.s great for the curls! I always like seeing progress; it just makes me want to push myself that much harder.
And on Halloween, I.m going to go crazy on the candy bars! I.m taking 2 weeks off from having a cheat just so I can stuff my face with candy on Halloween. Gosh knows I will no matter what.

Ok! A few weeks later, but I'm back and I feel a bit better. :)
I got this crazy idea in my head to go off my bc pills to help my libido - and it's been doing all kinds of wacky things to me. Got a depression episode pretty much immediately and now for the past 2 weeks I've been bloated, gassy, and having trouble sleeping. I hope that in a few months all this irons itself out - but there's no telling. I may have to go back on the pills to keep my sanity and try to find something else to help my libido. :(
I also started taking animal cuts but the results haven't been that inspiring. I started last monday so yesterday made 1 week. I haven't noticed any energy but the first day I couldn't sleep. The rest of last week was great - slept fine. Now this week I'm having sleep issues again - so I don't know if it's the AC or the screwy hormones. Oi.
I will say that the month I was on estracort I did like it... I'm not sure if it was responsible for my little extra fat loss or not, but I think it did play a role in helping me with stress levels and relaxing at night.
I've been sticking with the LSB from this site and this week would have been week 9 for it. I didn't make it to the gym yesterday though b/c of exhaustion and I'm not gonna make it today for the same reason. (Re-cap on sleep hours: Sat. night = 4 hrs, Sunday night = 0 hours, Monday night = about 4 hrs.) SO i've had about 8 hrs of sleep spread out over 3 nights. I'm a tired cookie. :( Hopefully tomorrow I'll be well rested enough to make it to work out..

I take Animal Cuts and love them. I like the fact that I can't feel anything while on them, but I do stay up a tad later. (my husband loves this, b/c he hates that I can fall asleep at 8pm!!)
I like the thryroid pills the best too. I've always noticed their effect, as small as it may be. The only time I really feel the cuts is about 15 minutes after I take them in the morning. I get that slight burn in my stomach.
Anyway, just checkin in......keep up the workouts and the willpower during the holidays!!
