I have been building for a few months now and doing well as i have increased strength and muscle size,
I started on Protein a month or so ago on Lean Desert, i found that i started to bloat quite a lot then used some of my husband's gold standard whey and that did the same.
I do suffer from IBS but take antispadmodics, i think i am quite prone to water retention also, the only excess flab i seem to have is on my hips and the little pregnant looking belly i get when i am bloated which i am working hard on burning off.
I was just wondering if anyone else had these issues and had found good supplements that don't bloat you up.
I am also wanting a pre workout boost but trying to stay away from creatine as i don't want the excess water retention that is can give.
Please can anyone advise on the best supplements to help me or any other advise on preventing water retention and bloating.

For water retention dandelion root and increase your water intake.

I had a similar problem with protein shakes, they just made me feel quite ill! Try switching to whey isolate, I've never had an issue with these. Isolates have less lactose, generally mix a lot better and aren't as thick.

Do you know if there is any isolates mixed with the carbs? or are they all just protein?

I have IBS but since dumping all forms of milk protein (whey, casein, etc.) found that I don't really have a need for antispasmodics. I'd seriously stop the whey and instead get your protein from whole foods.
I started taking creatine ethyl ester (bb.com brand Higher Power) 4-5 weeks ago and just take 1/4 tsp pre- and post-workout. Also after cardio on days when I don't lift. No bloating. No need to load either. One side effect that I was not expecting was that it calmed down the spams I still occasionally get and made my tummy much happier. Works better and is less irritating than increasing fiber. If you suffer from IBS-D I'd be a little cautious. But if you have neutral IBS or IBS-C you may find it helps you considerably. And yes, it does help in the gym. It's subtle, but there's definitely more energy available to the muscles.
CEE powder tastes horrible and needs to be mixed with something. But the powder is cheaper and allows you to modify your intake far more easily. I mix it with some sweet potato.

As far as i know i have neutral IBS, nothing in particular sets off the spazms as they are quite random which is why i was given antispasmodics. Milk has never set me off before but i just seem to have got more bloated with protein than i was before.
I am going to try and get my protein by foods so will be stocking up on the chicken and eggs!
I will try CEE and see how it works for me. as i just need that extra boost to get more out of myself and build the muscle, i just need to shift that bit of excess flab off my hips too! it's so stubbern!

I suffer from issues with protein powders too The bloating and rumbly in my tummy is not pleasant.
I recommend getting your protein from whole foods as well, but if you're still interested in doing the powder route (I do occasionally as I like to mix it into my pancakes and oatmeal), I suggest the All the Whey brand. They're lactose free and pretty cheap (around 18$ for 2lbs.) The flavors aren't half bad - but I've only had vanilla and cinnamon roll =)

I'm lactose intolerant and have ibs. Most protein shakes do upset my stomach, but I've found that optimum nutrition protein powder doesnt. It's whey isolate and low lactose.

I did use that for a while but i don't know if i was already bloated from previous powders,
I think i will give a isolate a try just for straight after training and up my chicken and eggs in the day.
I was considering getting some protein bars, as they can be a sweet treat as well as good for me,
Anyone tried any good ones that might be worth a go?

well 2 liters is not that much..I drink at least a gallon a day. anyways I have IBS as well and I am doing great on GNC's Wheybolic extreme 60 protein powder..I only use 1 scoop at as a serving. Also..I take Jack3d preworkout and it is free of maltodextrin and other fillers that are in a lot of the other preworkouts and it doesnt upset my stomach at all. I actually feel "lighter" after I drink it. Sounds kinda weird I know.. As far as bloating goes I have the SAME PROBLEM..especially since I had a c-section so I also have a little loose skin which makes bloating look 10x worse..But I have been taking Source Naturals Daily Essential Enzymes with EVERY meal and It has brought about AMAZING results..I used to get bloated even if I only ate chicken and a salad..now I dont have any bloating after any of my meals..I would def. consider you adding this to your supplements. Drinking Yerba Mate tea 1-2x a day has also helped my bloating. Also I found that now that my diet is a little stricter(prob. 100-200 calories less) my stomach is getting flatter as well. Maybe it is not so much bloating and just a matter of a little excess stomach fat..which we all battle. Hope you find some products that work for you!

I don't know of any, but you can always blend carbs in.
