Is protan alone enough?
also, do you put oil or anything on on top of the color backstage? The last show I went to the non-oiled up guys looked better than the "oiled" up guys because the oil and shine tended to drown out any definition.
Im thinking of ordering - Pro tan overnight competion color
I also saw the Muscle Sheen posing gel product.. not sure if this is necessary or what is in order to step on stage..
yes, first contest ;)
I would also like to know this, entering my first contest as well very soon.

You will get many responses to what works best, but, yes, Pro-tan can be enough. You must use several coats and it is best to have a good base, even tan. Personally, I use 4-5 coats starting on Thursday night after shower. I don't shower after that (the Pro-tan smells stronger than you will). The oil must be applied lightly and evenly (right before going onstage) or you will mask the definition. Lighting in the venue also makes a big difference.
In general, NPC judges tend to prefer Pro-tan, while Dream Tan and Jan Tana are more prevalent in some natural shows.
There are several threads about this very topic in the past.

thanks a lot for the reply!
I ordered some jan tana high definition color.. should get it by tuesday.. we'll see how that looks.
Im doing a couple shows and this first one is more a warm up so I'll use it to gauge my on-stage color. I may switch it to protan for my next shows depending on feedback.
thank you!
