They say once you leave the nest (Contest Prep) ya seem to always find your way back!

6 weeks out to my next comp,..NPC NATURAL OHIO Oct. 3rd 2009! and BUFFALO NY NGA OLYMPUS, Oct 17th for masters pro!

My last competitions were This April,..NPC Natty and NGA Rochester. I have been going at it strong in the gym and I'm in my midway point of prep. I'll be journaling my last 6 weeks here as I done in the past. Much support in here and I'm glad to be back!

Mornings no longer in the equatioon for a while,..I got shafted on eve. shift,..I am doing new cases so I am now working days,..sucks but at least I got my evenings free to train.

Current stats!:

-age 43yr.
-this will be my 4th and 5th time competiing in 6 months
- NPC Natural Ohio (Oct.3) -and- NGA Olympus Buffalo (Oct.17)

Last comp weigh in,..167lbs.

Current weight 178lbs.

I am already leaner than last year, been working with Layne. I'll have to update my avi.

I will be diced. I weighed in at 194ish last fall, i'll probably be at least 188 or under this time around.

Full glute seperation will be in effect come hell or high water :)

Looking forward to chatting at the show.

Hey Buddy! Thanks my man! Well,..I wouldnt go so far as to say I am maintaning that conditioning,..I just don't post the fat pics up much,..hehe,..But I am pretty good now,..only 9lbs. over last competition weigh in! with 6 weeks to go,..this should be pretty easy to achieve,..But as always,.I am still critical of myself! I would like the uber striated glutes this time around! ;)

If strength is an indicator of size,..then I should come in with a bit more size! My lifts are strong as H3LL!

You two gonna be in different classes so you can throw down for the overall?
Not sure what class I'll be in at the NGA,..have to see what their weight classes are. I think we may be in the same class tho.

I'm not sure,..I know I wont be in your class,..you will have a few more pounds on me. Last Natty I sacrificed macros to come in lightweight masters,...this may have flattened me out a little,..I'm taking my coaches advice,..just stay on the diet and come in as lean as possible,..no matter what the weight.

a natty pro,..hehe. The NGA on the 17th is a Masters Pro Qualifier, last two NGA comps I came in second for the pro card,..3rd times a charm! I feel good about this one!

You know very few people can get as conditioned as you do. It's definitely something to respect and something i'm shooting for.

Been 6 months since last competing,..Despite how much I would love to take a cpl. years to add size,..I want to try one more time for my natty masters pro. this will be the 3rd time going for it. The first time was during my first BB competition as a Novice and Masters. I won the overall Novice and 2nd masters Pro. I wasn't expecting this but the placings gave me the motivation to continue. Next competitions were April 2009. NPC Natty in Ohio and NGA Rochester for the pro card. Again beyond what I could have expected,..I was placed very well in both shows! missed the Masters pro in Rochester by 1 place. Again this made me even hungrier for it! These last 5 months I gained alot of strength in my lifts,..if strength is an indicator of size,..then I must have gained a pound or two of muscle. I don't know what I am going to do if I place the same as the last three contests. If I get my pro card then I can take some time to put on size,..If I do poorly then I can take some time and put some size on,...At least this way I will know what direction to go.

A little about the NPC Natty. If you are considering coming to the show,..then do it! This show is amazing and BIG! Dave Liberman runs a super quality show! It's like a mini Arnold Classic,..all the vendors and promotors,..so make sure you grab a bag and fill up on the goodies! In adition to the show,..our geust poser will be Again,....Mr. Jay Cutler! You wont want to miss!

about 6 weeks left! I'll try to keep this thread as interesting as possible,..It's good to be back in the contest prep forum again,..Almost like a right of passage :)

There not from here so it is somewhat of a draw for the visitors. It is kinda filthy in there,..has gotten worse but it's been a while since I went.

Pittsburgh waterparks I hear are nice,..I think Kennywood

I have never been to sandcastle...believe it or not. Now kennywood is awesome...but not really a waterpark. Both are owned by kennywood however.

Whats up, Chris? Yes.....been gone for a few days. Went out to Rhode Island for a big deep sea fishing trip. Unfortunately, Hurricane Bill wrecked our plans. So, we hit the beach a few times and just hung around Newport. I just got back in and saw your new thread. Im gonna start one up soon.......maybe in a week or two. Good luck with your prep and im looking forward to the challenge come October. I wish I could do the NPC show with you, but the funds are limited.. Im gonna do a warm up show as well before the Olympus, but it will be local.

Whats up, Chris? Yes.....been gone for a few days. Went out to Rhode Island for a big deep sea fishing trip. Unfortunately, Hurricane Bill wrecked our plans. So, we hit the beach a few times and just hung around Newport. I just got back in and saw your new thread. Im gonna start one up soon.......maybe in a week or two. Good luck with your prep and im looking forward to the challenge come October. I wish I could do the NPC show with you, but the funds are limited.. Im gonna do a warm up show as well before the Olympus, but it will be local.

Eh.....im not into the drama. Chris is a great competitor with some super strengths to his physique that are going to be very hard to match, much more so....beat. This is a real subjective sport.....so its gonna be up to the judges and whatever they see, they see. Win or lose, its gonna be a good time.

I have to ge tused to the 1 minute mandatory posing holds! Thats a workout w/in itself! My shoulder kinked up on me at the Rochester show during a dbl. back bicep pose. Luckily I was able to tweek it back into place!

Yesterday I was feeling a little ho hum so to speak. So far through this whole prep I adopted a ,..no problem,..I'll get there attitude. Well It finally caught up with me. I was stuck at 182lbs. for the longest time! I knew I was cheating on my diet but believed I can still make it in no time. Well Last week working out with the guys I changed my thought process. Determined to drop in weight and stay on the diet was now my focus. This morning I woke up at 177.7lbs! I am back on track and onma roll! The temptations are not as strong as long as we have a goal and are determined!

Not much about the campground but if you come at the right time,...Westfield throws a pretty nice Fair. I like Westfield,..nice upbeat small town.

Alright,..Pushed Delts Hard today! I find losing weight and keeping strength a war which I can win!

Decided to finally go for the big 100's today. This is how it went:

current weight 177lbs.
Walked the 100 Dbells over to the seated press bench. Had a noob ready to help me up with the first rep after I kick them up,..ok. So,..I kick the 1st Dbell up into position,...then the second. With 2x100lb. Dbells on each side of me with my elbows Wayyyy below parallel and sagging the noob just stands there,..Yikes,..not able to hold the weight much longer I drop the Dbells. I was nice and said,.."sorry,..just wasn't ready yet",..I think he got the idea and walked off.

After a little bit of rest a lifter who watched the ordeal offered assistance,..Thanks Dave!
Same thing,...kick up the Dbells into position,..Dave is on the mark,..helps get the Dbells in up position,..I nock out 3r on my owne,..then 1 more with assistance!

New (pr) 100lb. Dbells! Not bad for an old natty!

I had to go for it,..I decided earlier today I was,..thought about it all day,..I keep remembering what my coach says,..if you are chosing between a weight and the heavier weight,..always go for the heavier weight! He says,..feel free to preach that rule!

Im not a doctor, and really dont know much when it comes to medical advice but I always like to ice on and off for the first 24-48 hours after an injury. It's one of those tweaks that could go either way,..I'm not too concerned about it yet cause I only have HIIT today on bike. Saturday will be a true test during Chest. So as of now,..I amhoping it will subside.

Well today was my off day from weights,..cardio on the agenda,..as of now,..laying off the elbow. It seems to be getting better,..it's more of a nuisance now,..we'll see tomorrow on Chest day.

WOW......I cant believe youre selling it. Doesnt it kill you to put all that work in just to get rid of it? Did you get much time on the water this summer?

BTW......Golds is cool and all, but if youre looking for a little more "hardcore" atmosphere, check out "Samsons". Its THE bodybuilding gym in Rochester......no foo foo painted walls and soccer moms there. The owner, Jim Rockell, is an IFBB judge and he does the big NPC show out here every June. Only problem is that if youre dropping the boat on the east side, its a drive from here......but it is back in your direction.

I'm now in the market for a nice pop up camper,..around 3-4k,..I may look into Rochester Craigslist for sales.:)

The sale went flawless! He fell in love with it the moment he laid eyes on it. All the oos and ahhs by people walkinh buy helped seal the deal! 6k,..Now I hope to get a pop-up camper by next week! We had a pop up camper for a while.......it was much better than a tent, but if you have a vehicle that can pull it (and I think I remember a hemi jeep, no?), you should go with a hard bodied camper. Yea, it will suck down more fuel to pull it, but it is by far much more convenient. The thing about the pop up is that you have to put it up and down every time you want to pack and unpack. The hard body stays packed with everything and all we do is throw our clothes in and go. Real simple. Again with the pop up, if it rains or gets wet as you are packing up, you have to bring it home, open it up and let it air. Plus, it still has a bit of a tent feel where you wake up kinda damp feeling when it rains or there is heavy dew......again, its MUCH better than tenting, but we went with the hard body camper and ill never go back to a pop up.

Hey Carl,..I'm feeling really good about my upcoming competitions despite the minor elbow issue. My striations show great sepperation in the delts and triceps are showing striations as well,..My glutes are almost as thin as my last competition and I still have 5 weeks to keep dialing things in.

The most I notice are my quads. I think putting up 405 on squat a few times in the last 6 months is paying off,..much fuller and SICK sepperation and striations. If I place really good this year I think it will be due to my quads, Back, and abs/obliques. Plus I am very happy keeping everything in symetry and proportion. I'm definitely ready 100%

I think that if you can still press, that should be enough stimulation for you triceps for another week or so. I think you can afford a week withou tricep work, or direct tricep work for a week. Healing is just a bit slower when you are dieting.

May pump up the fish oil a little more. I have good results with Beta Alinine so thats on order. A little weaker but nothin too considerable. I have an older 19' camper.......and I pull it with a 3/4 ton truck, so it pulls easy. I bought it real cheap with a bunch of issues and fixed it up. Its perfect for our family. Large enough to sleep everyone comfortably and it has a little bathroom (which is key in the middle of night), hot water heater for the sinks and shower, furnace, A/C, microwave, etc. Really makes it so its not camping.....more like towing a small apartment with you. You can pick them up real cheap at the end of the season.....definately a great time to buy.

If you guys don't hear frome me by mid. next week,..chances are I got mauled by a Black Bear! Ha!

Changes are starting to be a daily thing now,..each morning I'm surprised with another vein or a half pound lighter,..sometimes both! My brst tool now for detecting fat is the pinch and roll method. My lifts are about the same,..minus a rep here and there,..thats to be expected tho. HA!,..even Cpt. Shred needs some time away! hehe,..Yup,..I found a great campsite to break in the trailer. Even tho I'll be gone Fri-Sun,..I'm still going to hit the gym,,Friday with Bill (my coach) and Saturday somewhere near the Finger Lakes.

Rich,..they have a sewer dumping station. We picked this campground for the clean atmosphere,..and not all those invalids driving around in golf carts to buy cigarettes! HA!

Plus,..we like the fact it is next to some real nifty attractions, Corning, Finger Lakes, Hammondsport, Watkins Glenn,..etc..We plan on leaving for the day then come back for dinner and do the same thing the next day.

I do not have a holding tank on my camper for my grey water...so I generally run a hose from the drain down the sewer....so I would have to buy a portable tank...which I have considered....but...I don't do the golf cart places either....

Yea, you will love the pop-up compared to the tent. I did a few trips this summer while on my diet. Its really no big deal, in fact its easier in some ways. So much of camping is based around cooking.......gives you an opportunity to spend some time making the meal perfect.....and everything tastes better outside....he he he. Just bring all your food, the scale and measuring cups and its like youre at home. The last trip I did coincided with a refeed and I made some apple pie on the fire in one of those mountain pie makers (the hot iron clamp thing you put on the coals). Probably the best 90g of carbs id had while camping!!

Have fun on the trip with the camper. Thats a nice area.

Good call,..but to go up around the natty pros,..conditioning has to be sick to say the least. I think if I hit 165lbs. again,..I'll be much more shredded than last time I was 165.

Awesome, because you were already pretty sickly shredded then!

It is a little disheartining knowing I will need to get to 165 myself...it just seems impossible to comprehend that I have to drop 50 lbs in order to compete.

But it's all worth it! :) then you can learn how to maintane a more stable weight between comps!

I was around your weight not that long ago....actually heavier. Ill be down close to 60 lbs from my heaviest. It completely messes with your head b/c youre used to filling out your shirts and thinking "im a pretty big guy at 200+"......then you see how much of that is FAT. Holey smokes......then you start dwindling down, youre swimming in your clothes (my tightest jeans are falling off me now) and you start thinking youre losing muscle......but you have to push through that and tell yourself....."no, im lifting hard and heavy, the diet is there....the supps are there.....im a fat burning machine". The last several weeks are very hard psychologically and a lot of guys dont get it until they do it. When its all over......its super rewarding, so I would encourage you to give it a go.

I am definitely doing it, I started almost 2 weeks ago, and have 50 to go before my first show. should be a piece of cake, at least the first 35-40lbs anyway, since I gave myself plenty of time.

Hah actually this show i'll be very happy with top 3, took 5th last time and these classes are no joke.

I'd say light heavies is stacked, but this show there usually isn't a weak class anymore. I do plan on be the hardest mother in light heavies, i'm sure you'll have the conditioning in your class to no doubt.
