1. Buy a cup
2. Buy a cup
3. Buy a cup
Did I mention . . . buy a cup? :D
EDIT: Another thing, though it's not "gear" and not exactly what you were asking about . . . but keep a pair of nail clippers in your bag. You'll want to keep your fingernails and especially toenails trimmed up. I've seen several toenails come off (and lost one myself) from getting snagged on the mat, carpet, other people's feet, gi's, etc. Plus your partners will appreciate not getting scratched up.

I don't wear a cup, mouthguard, ear protectors or any sort of ankle anything.... As far as gym bag... Yeah I suppose you should get a bag, might be easier than walking there in you're gi carrying all your **** in a hobo bindle.
If you're going for a mouthguard I'd just reccomend a boil and bite over a dentist sculpted one, and the shock doctor compression shorts with cup are decent as far as I know.

you can get everything you need from your gym and it will be cheaper too.
mouth guard recommended highly, and as far as a cup.. yeah you can get cheap ones at your gym also... see how you like them... but most ppl dont wear them... but its a good idea to get one... i just feel more free without it.
butin tourneys i wear one since we are going 120%

The only thing I wear is a cup. You definitely need one. Unless you want someone from your gym's knee going into your nuts, I highly suggest getting one. A mouthguard would be good, and they're cheap too.

Neither does mine.......
Get a cup and a mouthguard.
Your balls and teeth will thank you later.
Don't wear a cup.
Cups are not legal under IBJJF rules. You will not be allowed to use them in tournaments.

Really? They are required here for NAGA's and other tourneys.
Not those fuucked up canuckistan rules.
Just wait for some cut through passes when you catch a knee to the sack.

Those tournaments are crap.
BJJ Mundials do not allow competitors to wear cups. It offers an unfair fulcrum for armbars (amongst other things)

Whether it is my cup or my balls of steel, I always have an unfair fulcrum when I roll.

If you had balls of steel, you would not need a cup.
Fail.

I'd tap Cobrinha within 30 seconds.

Pretty cool.
I think you'd tap Jacare in like 15.

This^^ There is nothing worse than having someones junk rub up against you while rolling. If someone does it to me I try to throw the inside leg kick a little high when doing standup sparing
