at what bf% do you really run the risk of losing muscle if you are losing more than a pound of fat a week? i tend to naturally carry more weight if that makes any difference...

Well a BIG part of it is going to be whether or not you are providing the stimulation needed (lifting) to hold on to muscle. Remember you are always going to lose some muscle, you can't hold onto it all thats just not how it works. If you are significantly overweight though you can easily lose more than a pound a week and hold onto most of your muscle. It has to do with hormones like leptin. I am not as educated in the world of the endocrine system as I am with metabolism and the hepatic portal, but just know it is about hormones, but if you are not overweight and say are trying to drop from around 12% BF under 10, I would not lose anymore than a pound a week.

It isn't as simple as that.

Losing 1 pound/ week for a 110 # female would be different than losing 1 # a week if you were a 220 # male on juice.
You need to consider your body, your starting weight, your starting bodyfat, your genetics, your diet, and your training.
^
Because of all these variables no one can say 'once you hit x% bodyfat losing 1# a week is bad' and if they try to tell you such, they are speaking garbage.

:> Emma-Leigh,

It might be time for calculator/chart to be created (rough estimation).

I see no one better for this task! ;)
