This is my first log.
I am posting in here because I have been reading other logs and the mma forums and I realize that there are a lot of good fighters in here that are serious about their competition.
My first big step is to cut a lot of weight. I am have been stuck around at 230 to 235. I have been that way for about 3 to 4 years.
Starting last Sunday, July 5th, I got very serious about the cut.
I have had at least 190 grams of protein, 130 grams of fat, and about 40 grams of carbs a day
I have been very strict. No sweets at all.
so far it has been working. I have dropped 9 pounds.
I think with my diet, martial arts practice 5 nights a week, and lifting weights at least 3 times a week, I should be able to drop to 205 by the end of the month.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Tonight was BJJ. This is really hard for me to grasp.
I have never fought in a ring, when I was in high school I got jumped quite a few times and one rule of thumb was never go to the ground. Even if you fought just one guy and you went to the ground you could almost guarantee that one or more of his buddies would jump in.So that was one rule I have always followed.
Tonight we practiced a very low takedown where you grabbed the ankle and threw your shoulder into the knee. It is amazing how hard it is to get past that hesitation of going so low.
anyway it was a good practice and I learned a lot.
I especially learned how much I don't know when it comes to grappling.

Hey, how long ahve you been doing martial arts for?
and yeah, i know what you mean about being hesitant to go so low, that's why i'll stick to muay thai :P

Done disregard that low ankle pick you learned bro. If youre ever fighting someone significantly bigger than you, then that technique is gold!

I haven't practiced any martial arts in years, but in the past I studied Isshinryu karate for about 4 years, and then later sil-lum kung fu.
I have just started Muay thai kickboxing, Pancrease Wrestling, and BJJ.
my goal is to have at least one amateur fight before I hit 40.

You are right the take down is great. but It will take me some time before I get past that initial hesitation.
I was too tired to post last night.
so this is what I did yesterday.
morning: I jumped the bag for 5 min,
I carried a small punching bag in a bear hug and kneed it as I walked back and forth for 5 min. ( this kills my obliques.)
I worked chest and shoulders with free weights.
evening:
I went to Muay thai, the first hour we did punch combos, then the last 30 min we did kick and knee combos.
after that I practiced the windmill sweep, by then I was pretty much wiped.
came home and slept.

Okay it has been about a week or so since I have posted.
I have lost 12 pounds since I have started and 2 inches around my waist.
I feel like I have gotten a good feel for the Muay Thai stance, and the jab and cross.
I have been able to wrap my head around some basic submissions and can even get a few when rolling. All and All I feel like I am making some good progress.
My schedule has been mon and thurs BJJ, tues wed Muay Thai first hour second Grappling.
Friday and sat are open mat.
I love friday and sat because there is usually like 4 people there other than the guys getting ready for a fight. What makes it nice is I get alot of one on one time with the teachers. I will miss a night once a week usually to heal up a little.
last night was BJJ, one of the new guys weighs 295, and he can do the full splits. I was his training partner last night. My neck got tweaked, and one time I swear I could hear my short ribs splintering. 295 is no joke when it is laying on you in side mount.
All and all I am having a blast.

I worked chest this morning, I am doing light weight until I get use to the mma training.
flyes, 3 sets of 12 with 50 pounds
inc flyes, 3 of 12 with 50 pounds
decline flyes, 3 of 12 with 50 pounds
military press, 3 of 12 with 50 pounds
shoulder press, 3 of 12 with 50 pounds
shoulder raises 3 of 12 with 20 pounds
front shoulder raises 3 of 12 with 20 pounds
worked in the sun most of the day,
tonight we sparred.
all body shots, leg kicks and take downs.
It was fun but for some reason punching kills my biceps. right were they connect to the elbow. They hurt like crazy for about an hour after I train then it slowly fades. usually by the next day it is gone until I start punching again.
I was wondering if I should wear a sleeve brace until I the tendons get stronger. or if I should just tuff it out.
I am open to any Ideas.

It has been a while since I have posted in my log.
Still am training to fight some time in spring, My striking is getting a lot faster, I feel more in control when I spar with someone else.
My BJJ and Pancrase needs much work. but I am getting to where I am able to get some good submissions by using skill instead of power.
Take downs, Yea I still suck. but I am working on it.
At my Gym we have several amateur and professional fighters, I noticed how hard it is for me to have enough time to train 2 to 3 hrs 3 to 4 times a week(yes I cut down alot on my training), work, have a family, and do all the other things necessary have a life. Let alone someone training 40 + hrs a week training for a fight, plus all of the expenses to go with it, makes it tuff logistically to make it all work. Mad respect for anyone that does it.
So I decided to try to set up a company that its whole purpose is to sign fighters and get them sponsors. I figured it would be easier to get someone to sponsor a stable of fighters than it is for a single fighter to go out and find sponsors.
Thus was born Strikersunion.com the website is still under construction, but we are getting it together. Once the website is up I will then go full blast trying to get sponsors for our fighters.
It doesn't have much to do with training but it does look like this is the direction my passion for MMA will take me.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions you are welcome to post in this log or pm me.

I have to say what you are doing for the sport is great. If undercard UFC fighters are making 1 or 2 grand, then what about the people lower down in the sport? These guys need our support so helping them find sponsorship is great!

Yes it is really tuff on them most of these guys struggle just to keep the lights on.
let alone all of the other expenses.

Good news, I finally got the website up. www.strikersunion.com slowly but surely we are adding content. Hopefully this will help with building a fan base for our fighters.
It is the first web site I have ever built so any feed back is great.
Training, Some time I feel like I am taking 2 steps forward 3 steps back.
It seems like I am spending more time recovering from injury than I do training.
On the good side, some of my old injuries that the docs have said are chronic have healed up
on the bad side I get a new one every week.
I still want to fight in the spring, but I am going to have to really focus or I will never make it.
Today I am going to start running. I haven't been able to because of knee and ankle injury, But I feel good this morning. Wish me luck.

So I moved my free weights to the MMA gym. It was nice because it was raining today and I didn't have to work out in the rain.
I worked chest, shoulders, and abs. I am ready to start cutting again. I have leveled off at about 215.
Hopefully I can drop to 200 with this next cut.
Tonight we will work BJJ. I cannot wait to try some of the things I learned at the charuto seminar last week.

Finally I am able to get heel hooks. For some reason I have struggled with them since I started. Last night we hit on them a little after a take down, but I could not wrap my mind around them. It was bugging me so much that I woke myself up as I was grabbing my wifes leg in my sleep.
But today I did it. I figured out how to lace the legs, what angle to fall back, how to position my body. Man it feels Good!
I know every one else on this board probably got heel hooks the first time, but I learn slow.
Anyway I am excited. I feel like I might be able to get this BJJ down at some point.

Thanks.
last night I worked GI BJJ, we practiced getting leg locks while in someones guard. I felt like I got it down pretty good in practice but in free roll I couldn't get it once with a live opponent.
I need to get faster at moving my legs. I guess I will start working on that this morning.
The Good news for me I am able to jog, and even sprint a little.
