little bit about myself and my current situation sorry about things not making sense.. I have so much to say I don't even know where to start
most of you have probably seen me around by now my name is matt im 17 years old. Ive been lifting serious for a little over 16 months now. I started getting the diet aspect down this september. I first started coming to the forums since I wanted to figure out the best route for contest prep since I didn't have any knowledge of how to get in stage shape. I changed up my diet around 10 weeks ago in attempt to get in "stage shape" for my vacation coming up this weekend in cancun. while dieting I was seeing awesome results really busting my ass then I saw a poster for the NPC Atlantic States and figured if im working this hard I might as well do the competition. that day my motivation and drive skyrocketed. weeks later I didn't realize how much of a challenge it truly was to get in shape.. that being said I fell short and decided not to compete which was a blow to me especially since I looked better then the 13-17 age class winner at that time.
anyway a few days after this.. I was at the gym talking one of the guys who works at the desk about it and some guy ive never seen/met sitting next to me starts telling me how hes been working backstage at NPC shows for over 10 years and is running a competition (NPC Empire States). so guess what it motivated me once again and set me off again taking it even more serious well.. I got myself motivated saying id do it not even thinking that id be leaving for cancun two weeks before that + my college orientation popped up a week before the show which would last 2 days and id be away from home on the road. the competition is being held on July 18th but im gonna be away for a week + 2 days on top of that which wont help me at all. so these last two weeks ive had 2 days where I had planned high carb refeeds but failed ending up in binging since I had the "screw it" attitude no longer having that im competing motivation. I feel like I hyped myself up to a lot of the people on these boards saying I was competing and I feel like **** about it since I know how hard you guys work. I read every persons logs and have witnessed ridiculous transformations and dedication.
I should of had everything straight before jumping into this but ill be honest Ive discovered so much about who I am and who my true friends/supporters are. Ive felt horrible for the last 8 weeks. Ive never felt so exhausted in my life but yet I am so proud of myself I cant help but smile. Ive destroyed and overachieved my goal from 2 years ago the last time I went to cancun and that was "to be ripped" the next time I go.
Ive met so many awesome people from this section id just like to let you guys know without you this would have been impossible.
I just wanna put out some names sorry if I missed you.. these people are just sticking out right now. I may not have know some of you to well but I followed your logs and learned a ton of information

future plans
right now im going with the mindset to cancun to enjoy myself. If i happen to look good when I get back I may compete later in august but its up in the air right now. If not i will still be in this section following logs/journals and asking for all types of advice since I love this sport and will compete in the future. Im also extremely happy to say next year I will be attending college for sports nutrition and fitness management :D

LOOK HOW RIPPED YOU GOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Delts are sliced! Vascularity is freakin sick! And, your triceps are STRIATED!!!!!
Your whole physique looks awesome, Matt!!! I'm very proud of you :D
You put my conditioning for my 1st show to shame. I think you'll be all set to compete in August, bro. You're pretty darn shredded ;)
Great work!

Dude at 17 you did all that in a year and a half? You've got some great genetics. Forsure you should enjoy your trip don't stress and come back to do a show when you get the time.
Awsome job. That side tricept is sick!

Im VERY impressed, conditioning in teen class is paramount, many cant get that ripped because the muscle just isnt that mature, it always looks kinda soft to me. But, dude, you are ripped.
This is what Id do. GO to cancun with the thought you got in your best shape of your life, enjoy vacation. Eat how you want. When you get back, since you are so lean I dont think the damage will be that bad as you will be very insulin sensitive from the diet and being so lean. When you get back, get back to it, a show in August would be perfect. You will do well in teens.
Very nice work I wouldnt have seen that coming judging from your before pics.

You are one of the leanest teens I have ever seen, no joke. That transformation is A-phuggin-plus! Don't get down on yourself for having to back out of your original plans to compete... sometimes life just throws things at you. I agree with what everyone else says, just enjoy your vacation, and make plans to compete when you are back and everything in life has some degree of stability.

I cant thank you enough for how much support you've given me these past few weeks without you I don't think i could of made it honestly and its ironic how my dream physique for cancun this year was actually a picture of you haha :D

haha its hard for myself to believe I actually looked like that at one point. Im not quite sure about the genetics honestly besides the vascularity. I gave it everything I had.. actually lost over 35lbs since march. the diet/training + hours and hours of cardio next time around I need a treadmill with a TV the damn wall gets boring :/

I've been lifting off and on for a long time and recently have started to get my diet down. If that's what can happen when I finally get this diet adjusted, good lord the Caribbean best be ready!
Awesome transformation, and enjoy the vacation dude and live it up! I think I decided that's what I'm going to do :)

I had a long rough contest prep full of lots of friday nights spent on this damn computer. Make sure you enjoy yourself. When you get back hop on the band wagon and find a show later in the year. You will be lean already. One week of vacay cant ruin everything as long as your not eating double hot fudge sundaes late at night out of some hot mexicano senorita's belly button. But if all else fails and you are bloated and look like **** just drink the water, it will cure verything! Best diet plan ever!

cant sleep at all or stop eating :(.. but heres a little bit of how the week went
saturday(day I left)
I woke up before we left for the airport and did some cardio. I had loads of energy I almost had tears in my eyes after I finished :')
I was absolutely shot walking in the airport my family thought i was sick since I was extremely depleted and flat. I looked like a skeleton but I wanted to go this way. I ate a meal and actually passed out before the plane even took off.. woke up to some bad turbulence and only about 30 minutes left of the flight so I was happy. I ended up eating at 5am, 8 and 12 with only ~20carbs when I got to the resort.
so at this point my family hasn't seen my with my shirt off yet and I wore a hoodie on the plane so they really have no idea what I look like and are giving me **** for looking "skinny" since they haven't seen me since easter and are not used to seeing me without fat. I went to the room to put on my bathing suit and my aunt saw me and flipped out. in a good way then my uncle saw me with me and his reaction was awesome he was shocked at how I looked.. I could honestly say this was the driest I looked but i think it was because I barely had water after 5am just sips from a water bottle since I didnt want wake up to pee on the plane.. Im used to drinking ~2gallons a day and I had maybe 50oz by 1pm. so I give my aunt/uncle a bunch of different poses and they were in awe the whole time. heres a picture from around the time this happen
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2553/dsc02272w.jpg
i have no idea why my arms look so unproportional. there not its just the angle and the way I was flexing I guess
I was actually feeling exhausted after since and the weather was crappy outside so I just put on a t shirt and sat outside since I wasn't in the mood to go in the pool while it was grey skys and drizzling so no one else saw how I looked. later that night we went out for dinner I got some grilled chicken and then got **** about not getting anything more but I blew it off.
okay enough with this crap here comes the good stuff :P so the last time I was in cancun was 2 years ago and we always see the same group of people there since its all timeshares and people go on certain weeks. so while leaving dinner I see a group of the people who are around my age and none of them recognize me so I just walked by later on I was in the lobby by myself and some how get the courage to go up to one of the girls and start talking to her.. im a very shy guy and she didn't even believe it was me considering i look completely different now then she introduced me to one of her friends that came long this year I talked to them for a bit and then they had to go so I went back to my room for a bit. it was a very successful chat to say the least I put us on good terms for the night.
so I starts getting late and we(bro/cousin/me) decide to go check out the beach and then I run into them and we start chatting then I leaned on something that was wet from the rain and take off my jacket one of them notices my veins and tells me she thinks it hot so my drunk brother tells them im a bodybuilder and they make me take off my cloth on the spot and ask me to flex. I felt like the ****ing man they were loving it and feeling it.. I was getting pummeled in compliments. so pretty much they asked me tons of things all night about it.
thats how saturday went. If anyone wants to hear more about the vacation ill definitely be willing to share more of my week with you guys I wont be doing much today but sleeping

Mind over matter big man, try to break the habit and start getting back on track after going wrong. Yes you had your fun, but if you want to limit the fat gain you got to flip the switch on the inside to prevent yourself from any more harm or binge eating / over compulsive eating after going on a fest the last few days.
needless to say your transformation is amazing, and the future is very bright.

Sounds like a hell of a time, there is nothing better than the reactions you get (as a bodybuilder) from relatives and friends who haven't seen you in a while. But on to the more important issue - like LayzieBone said, compulsive/binge eating is no joke. I dealt with it myself after my contests, and it is horrible. No one around you will understand what you're going through, but there are plenty of people here who have struggled with it at some point after their shows. You need to do everything you can to get back on track, pronto!

I started off the week telling myself I wouldn't go overboard because I know I do have a binge eating problem and I was scared of whats happening right now.. eating everything even if it doesn't taste amazing ill eat it at this point. I was under pressure there to enjoy myself by everyone id hear so much **** about it.. I shouldn't be blaming others but it got to me.
tomorrow = GO TIME!
I think it will take a good week to lose the bloat/water then ill be able to see what kind of damage I did. Im not sure if I should go back to doing cardio right away I feel like im gonna be dropping weight fast enough without it just from the diet/training alone

thanks for letting me know it truly makes me feel good inside because ive been inspired by so many individuals on these forums its nice to finally be apart of that group giving others some motivation and inspiration :D
at the beginning of the diet I actually felt fine since i slowly worked my way into it but after a few weeks the cardio/low carbs caught up to me and i was dead tired but i worked through it

its more of a family place so there wasn't to many girls there just to go out and party thats what other places are for but anyway I see the same group of girls there every year and they were diggin the body ;) I got a lot of nicknames from them and even from the group of guys lol
Im starting back on cardio tomorrow since I screwed myself up very badly. Im actually worried that I gained a lot of fat right about now.. im not kidding im swollen like the pillsbury doughboy my ankles.. feet.. knee caps everything. Im not sure how much I gained I cant believe i let myself get this way honestly.. Im praying I can get back to the same shape i was in in 2 week since I wanna attempt a show on august 9th.

As was said anyone that has dieted down that lean knows what it's like to get the green light to eat again. Self control and education got you where you are but the mind plays funny tricks on us sometimes. After I diet for a while I start to almost develope and eating disorder where I worry about every almond over my "plan". The stress alone does more damage than the 4-5 almonds would. If you binge just keep it to one meal and don't sweat it. I keep my diet simple now. Every Fri morning I know what number I want to see on the scale ... I have the entire week to hit that number and if i start to exceed it then I get to have a treat. This way I won't starve myself with worry and I won't get fat from over eating. At the moment I worked out that 1lbs/wk is all I need to be stage ready with room to spare. The closer I get to game day the easier it will be for me to dial in where I should be.

I was the same exact way especially with the almonds id count them over 2-3 times to make sure I had the right amount i doubt it would of made any difference in the long run lol
Your transformation is absolutely amazing! Awesome work!!
thanks :)
okay so heres how today went. I couldn't sleep at all last night since my stomach was bugging and everything was swollen giving me some bad pains along with a nice headache. I couldn't hit the gym feeling this way today so I did 30 minutes of cardio and just took a few naps. I honestly didnt even bother eating much today all I had was a shake and then some ham twice. I made all my meals for tomorrow hopefully I can get some sleep and start fresh tomorrow

Keep your water intake high, start doing your cardio and ease back on some of the foods your have been enjoying. If you pulled sodium and such from your diet, then all of a sudden add that back in along with carbs your body is seeking homeostasis and trying to regain that. Its wanting to level back out. Research post contest rebound, even though you may not have competed you basically did the same type of diet we do to get ourselves to contest shape. Its something that has happened to all of us, your gonna feel honestly like shiot for a week or longer til your body reaches its happy state once again. It also has the mental funk that goes along with it...the omg...what the hell have I done? I looked so awesome and ruined it in just a few days. Once you gain control of what your eating again and your body levels out, you'll be just fine.
You should have seen me after Nationals this past year....I was CRAVING homemade Chili....Having not had sodium in a long time, manipulated my water for the show, flying back home after many beers after the show...I was a serious PUFFBALL for two or three weeks. Literally puffy eyeballs and everything.

bro dont let contest prep turn into a eating disorder like so many do. First you over indulge but then you regret it and alot of people end up doing dumb things. Wipe all thoughts of food binging out of your head and start fresh. Let it be a learning experience, your too young to let this **** get you down

I really think it did already. Im done with the binging obviously but I feel horrible not mentally but physically. I wanna get back into the gym already to work off this puffiness that I got going on everywhere ;/ I have no problem dieting for the next 2 or even 3 weeks to get back to where I was prior to cancun but after that its gonna be struggle even with reverse dieting since by that time ill be heading up to college and im not sure how the food situation is going to be looking

I could seriously tell you some of my stories for right after a show...It was crazy!
I LOVE homebaked goodies....so I think you might get that idea (tollhouse choc chip from scratch, brownies, cake...) have a thing for Krispy Kreme Donuts, LOVE Pizza Inn Buffet, Chipolte by my house knew my name...
cheesecake was part of every meal...
Its not uncommon for me to not step in the gym for a month after a show. after beating my body up for 16 weeks, I'm just plum sick of that place by then. I think if I don't go for that long no one will notice my little puffball self and ask what happened. lol
Just realize your not alone...we've all been there.

p241/c72/f31
coming from whey, oats, whole grain rice cakes, egg whites, almonds, chicken, broccoli and asparagus
nothing was ever the same in order but my main list of exercises are
skullcrushers, french press, dumbell kickbacks, overhead dumbbell extensions, cable rope pulldowns, reverse grip pull downs, cable rope pull downs over the head, dips, close grip bench press, straight bar pulldown.. theres probably more obviously I didnt do all of these in one workout but this is a list of my usual exercises. I do a lot of super/drop setting also
I dont go to heavy either I like feeling my tricep work and getting the stretch/squeeze

no one even said a thing about me looking puffy today probably since they were all used to my face looking like a skeleton. Im glad im out of it now today went perfect I just felt sluggish/weak at the gym but the pump was actually kinda painful :o!

The only thing I would suggest is this. At your age, you have a prime hormonal balance that will improve for a while. Don't waste that potential doing back-to-back shows every year. 17-23 or so are prime growing years so make sure you get the maximum from them. If you're always on a diet, it just ain't happening. Do a show each year, sure. Just don't be doing tons of them or you'll waste allot of potential.

yeah I agree with you 100% the sad thing is in between my before in after pictures I wasted a lot of timing doing mini cuts then bulks with wrestling season, then the summer of 08 I was dieting down.. so I probably could of been much bigger as of right now but im happy where I stand look/proportion wise. and the reason I wanna do these shows in 2010 is because I feel that I have some unfinished business to take care of since I was in shape but didnt do anything with it but take a trip to cancun lol..

It seems to be my only sticking point at the moment...not sure whether I'm too low.

I had an endocrinologist appointment and actually got my RMR(resting metabolic rate) tested while I was there. It came out to ~2800 calories. keep in mind this was at the end of my bulking so I started at 2800 calories and just lowered it as the weeks went by to keep steady progress

I agree. Keep the diet in check with a healthy surplus and hit the weights. Testosterone is through the roof. I bet I put on 90% of my size between 17 and 22 yrs of age. Then I got fat.....so dont do that...;).

I went all out on abs every other day for at least a half an hour it was usually a mix of hanging leg raises, cable crunches, decline crunches, dragon flags, oblique crunches. and between sets I would do stomach vacuums. high reps of 20-30 for all exercises

thanks man. Im still suffering in the motivation department right now from taking some time off I completely burnt myself out doing what I did. I didnt take my time either I kinda went right into it so next time ill try dieting for a much longer period of time rather then 8 serious weeks. Im trying to find a happy medium with my diet were I can stay at a decent body fat but get strong and a lot of size

I had a lot of ups and downs in my training. I had a lot of mini cuts/bulks. I wanted to be lean for the summer of 08' cut for 2 months, then bulked since I failed at my first cut attempt.. then tried to cut again for wrestling, then decided not to wrestle, so bulked again.. THEN got pressured into wrestling again 2 weeks into the season so I cut down yet again. after that I bulked up to ~175 by mid march. I barely gave myself much time to pack on some good muscle.
