What's up people, I have a question about drinking.
Here's the deal: basically, I'm not a real serious bodybuilder but I do lift and have achieved a pretty respectable physique I'd like to think. Right now, I'm pretty much just maintaining after a recent bulk/cut cycle. I do like to go out and drink, typically once a week.
Obviously, no alcohol is the best choice to prevent muscle loss. And after that, if one has to drink, the less alcohol the better from a bodybuilding perspective. However, I'm not really into just having a few; when I go out, I like to get a good buzz going, ~7-8 drinks.
Does anyone have an opinion or better yet, evidence, to suggest that perhaps taking some supplements like creatine and glutamine before and after drinking would help to nulify the negative effects of consuming alcohol? I'm thinking that since alcohol essentially works against both creatine and glutamine, maybe the two (supplements vs. alcohol) would offset to some extent.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks!

Other than not drinking so much, to help with the next day's effects, look into Numbus's Rehab

Rumor is that if you try sucking your own dick, you will feel better.

Gotta be careful when you dose antiox like NAC... it must be pre-drinking for any beneficial effect. After drinking it may potentiate oxidative stress.

I actually validated this theory some years ago.

You can blunt the effects of alcohol by producing a bunch of lactic acid.

I have heard of people using phenibut powder or other nootropics to limit the amount they actually have to drink to feel a buzz, some say they feel quite drunk off 2-3 beers. Maybe worth looking into that?
I'm actually in the same boat as OP, I've started having a few drinks one a week after about 6 months of sobriety and it makes it harder to stay lean for sure.

Using creatine if you periodically drink heavily might be a wise idea, though there is limited research
Ethanol and Cerebral Vulnerability
As part of the high-energy metabolism in the cytosol of neurons and glia, Cr is reversibly phosphorylated to phosphocreatine (PCr) in the equilibrium reaction, Cr+ATPPCr+ADP+H, which is enzymatically catalyzed by Cr kinase (Wyss and Kaddurah-Daouk, 2000). This reaction is considered essential for temporal buffering of high-energy phosphates and pH, which is necessary for proper cell functioning. Using 1H-MRS, Cr and PCr resonance peaks cannot be sufficiently resolved. Creatine as referred to here means total Cr comprising both Cr and PCr. Therefore, results of this study grant no detailed insight into the Cr/PCr equilibrium reaction. However, in contrast to recent animal studies on acute Eth effects (Adalsteinsson et al, 2006; Braunova et al, 2000; Hirakawa et al, 1994; Lee et al, 2003), results of our study provide important evidence for Eth to affect Cr. As reviewed in detail (Wyss and Kaddurah-Daouk, 2000), there is ample evidence for neuroprotective effects of Cr. For example, there is evidence for Cr to protect against free radical generation and to regulate a mitochondrial protein complex, which is implicated in cell death (O'Gorman et al, 1997). Vice versa, the absence of Cr implies greater possibility of neuronal damage in case of hypoxia, oxidative stress conditions (Carter et al, 1995) or neurodegenerative diseases (Smith et al, 1995). In this context, a negative correlation of TSEth and TSCr, that is reduced Cr levels after per os alcohol consumption suggests elevated cerebral vulnerability. Producing oxidative stress (see the section Ethanol and Oxidative Stress), continuing Eth application could therefore result in vicious circles of neurotoxicity, which may contribute to the functional and morphologic correlates of chronic alcohol consumption.
This study also shows how the effects of alcohol on the brain hit before 6 minutes after ingestion (fasted).

Damnit, I always take NAC after I drink.
Total fail.

I feel ya man hardest thing during bodybuilding imo is to avoid drinking... I usually come home and just drink a lot of water then take a protein shake and pass out. I feel terrible when I do it though because I feel like I wasted a whole day of hard work in the gym.
