How is it that this man not only drives drunk, but kills someone, and is in jail for just a MONTH?
People do things that are no where NEAR this bad, and get 3 months, 1 year, 2 years, 15 years...
I think this is disgusting.

Mike Vick didn't kill a human, and he definitely didn't get 1 month of jail time...

Lots of money and a good lawyer are all it takes to get away things like this.

Money isn't worth a human life. He should be in jail much, much longer. Not fined....

I thought he was in a crosswalk? I may be mistaken though, if he did just jump out then it's a slightly different story.

I don't think he was in a crosswalk, but still driving drunk is bs.

how would the outcome have changed if stallworth wasn't drunk

I think it was early in the AM and he was heading to practice and the guy was running in the road not at a crosswalk when it happened. I think if it had happened at night and not the next day after partying the punishment would have been a little different.

Regardless of situation, DUI manslaughter should be a littttle more than 30 days IMO
anyone know who his lawyer was? just curious.

After a drunken birthday in 1998, NFL star Leonard Little crashed into and killed another motorist. When tested, his blood alcohol level measured 0.19 percent. Little received 60 days and 1000 hours of community service. Six years later, after the involuntary manslaughter conviction was wiped from his record, Little was again arrested for drunk driving.

if he had been obeying the traffic laws and the guy did in fact run out in the road I would imagine that his charges would have been dismissed.

confidential financial settlement.
if you ever commit the same crime and have tons of cash to offer the family, you can get a similar deal.
its just the way it is.

Oddly enough, both Stallworth and Leonard Little attended my alma mater.
I am sure the university is proud.

He wasn't overly drunk but that's no excuse. He always lost his license for the rest of his life. Most who kill someone are able to drive again. 30 days seems pretty lax though.

I think they are more concerned with Lane's recent indiscretions :)

The victim's family played a part in the sentence. Generally speaking, a court will take into account the wishes of the family. Since Stallworth paid them, they agreed to settle for a shorter sentence.
Had a case in my hometown where a college student was driving drunk and killed a fellow student. The victim's mother asked the court not to send the drunk driver to jail, but require him to go around with her and speak at colleges/high schools about the dangers of drunk driving. (Guy wasn't even a professional athlete, so it throws that BS out the window)

Lane is playing to the media...nothing more.
He is also garnering tons of attention and keeping us in the news...its all part of the plan IMO.

What excuses will Lane have after Meyer drops 100 on his team?

well, I doubt they will come anywhere close to that, although I do expect we will lose...
you just have to hope the fans can temper expectations until Lane gets his recruits on campus...then we can see what kind of coach he is. he is definitely short on experience, but his staff is loaded with it.
of course, by then Meyer will be coaching at Notre Dame ;)

I predicted 90 days TOPS. That seems to be the going rate for NFL players with charges like this. I think he got off easy because he did the "right thing"

Vick got 18 months. Is there a seperate book where we value animal life over human now too?
"The key here is the precise language of Section 316.193(3)(c)(3)(b) of the Florida Statutes. A person who is driving while drunk doesn?t commit DUI manslaughter simply by driving drunk and being involved in an accident resulting in another person?s death. To be liable for DUI manslaughter, the drunk driver also must have caused or contributed to the causation of the incident.
The DUI laws impose strict liability on the driver. Even if the driver is not actually impaired, he?s deemed to be intoxicated as a matter of law if his blood alcohol concentration exceeds the legal limit.
For DUI manslaughter in Florida, there?s no strict liability. The prosecution must prove ? beyond a reasonable doubt ? that the driver caused or contributed to the causation of the collison.
The key, as it always is in criminal cases, is reasonable doubt.
Experts in accident reconstruction can readily testify as to the reality that, as in this case, a man jaywalking in a multiple-lane highway with a posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour might very well have been struck by Stallworth even if his BAC had been 0.0 percent.
If the expert is good ? and there are plenty of them out there ? he or she could to inject more than enough reasonable doubt into the question of whether Stallworth?s driving actually caused the collision."

That's how it should be IMO. I don't think it would be such a big deal to everyone if it wasn't Dante Stallworth as the defendant.
