Hello everyone!

I have been looking into getting into (slowly and cheaply...haha...yea...) road biking for exercise. I would for now just be riding around the park (paved) and local streets. I was considering vintage schwinn 10 speed or something I could pick up cheap just to start. Idk, I am a fan of old sk00L stuff haha. My dad used to own a bike shop... Anyway. I can't afford a freakin' trek that costs $$$$ or a cannondale etc etc. I just want a road bike that I can ride for some exercise...the pricier one will come in time (poor college student).

I am 6'0 tall. What should I get for basics? Some shorts? A helmet (I should prolly huh?)

So after reading all of my crappy inserts...what'r the experienced opinions?

all i got to say is you better not be one of those son bitches who ride in the middle of the street like a car then roll stop signs and traffic lights.

pisses me the hell off, specially since you have to pass them and if there is contact your in deep ****

This fo sho ^^, they ride in the street even when there's a perfectly good sidewalk.

OP, please be careful, those guys are always getting hit by cars around here. I'm sorry I can't help much with the biking, but I think those goofy shorts would be the last item on my list. I had a friend long ago (RIP) who was heavily into mountain biking and he did some road biking as well, like with many things it's best to save up some $$ up front and get some good equipment rather than trying to get into it cheaply. This guy went through several bikes and sets of various accessories upgrading all the time before he finally settled into some good gear.

You can get a pretty good bike for under a grand, so just save for a little bit. I would look into felt (f85) or cannondale (caad 9). You can also probably find a bike only a few years old on craigslist. I bought a specialized allez comp frame and wheels for only 350 bucks, then i built it up for under a grand (with full 2009 sram rival). Its not the bike that will cost you, its the shorts, shoes, jerseys, helmet, bottles...ect.

It isnt a cheap hobby, but it is fun as hell. I love cycling
