I live in a rural community and good deals on equipment are few and far between. I've been stalking Craigslist for a year and a half. There is always an ab lounger and free kittens on Craigslist, but that's about it. I've bought off the St. Louis Craigslist, 2.5 hours away and monitor Nashville, Memphis and Indy. How far do you guys travel when picking up that elusive deal?

I passed on a good deal in Indy on Ebay this morning not sure if a wanted to make a 9 hour round trip. That would have made the deal just fair. :(

But I live in a huge city so there's deals to be had. I would say that it really depends how good of a deal you're getting and how rare that item is.

Farthest i went was to Albany, NY(3 hr drive) cause i was desperate for a power rack. I got a decent deal, but i had to visit my Aunt who lives 30 minutes south of Albany so it wasn't really that useless. Most of the equipment i buy is within a 45 min drive. All my gym equipment is from craiglist, the only thing i didn't get from CL is Gold's gym olympic curl bar(20$ at walmart) and a jump rope(5$ at Dick's).

i've been on 8-10 round trip for alot of my equipment. i got the hookup, from keetman, in columbus, ohio for my rack and lat machine. my ghr came from there, too. i once drove to minnesota for a leg extension/curl machine. unfortunately, i used it for a very short time and sold it.

i now try to stay within an hour or two most of the time.

for the rack/lat machine drove there and back- that's 8-10 round trip, not each way. when i picked up my ghr, we went out to a few bars, i stayed the night and we went to the arnold the next day. it was a good time!
