Does anyone know the name of this type of spring which arnold used to define his chest. Its like a big spring which you crush together which trains different fibres of the chest. I ordered a spring like this from argos but it was rubbish. I am looking for the propper old school spring which arnold used! my m8 has the old school one and the pumps are amazing as you can mould the shape of your chest at the same time getting a good pump. I would appreciate anyones feedback thanks.

If you want a good chest expander get this one:
http://www.fractionalplates.com/equipment/CMdet.htm
It isn't the one Arnold used to advertise That one would be from Weider as he was their spokesman, however Weider isn't made like it used to be so a decent version of this new from them would be totally unavailable.
I,m not sure why you would want one though.

Why are they called chest expanders? Is it the whole make the rib cage larger? Sorry but i am new to some of this equipment and what it actually does. I received an apparatus like this in my uncle's weight equipment.

You can't "mould the shape" of your chest. You can make it bigger by doing the normal bench presses, I don't see why you'd want something like this at all.

The idea was that supposedly they would exercise your chest. They aren't very effective at that and if they have the bare springs you get hair, or shirt, or worst of all skin caught in the springs when you use them.
They are a gimmicky piece of equipment mostly sold through mags and comic book for about the last hundred years. A set of these and some cheap hand grippers has been many a teens introduction to working out, either that or the Charles Atlas courses.
OP which spring are you talking about?

When I mean "mould" I mean build the chest up. My friend found this spring in his attic and when I used it the pumps were mad!!! you can crush the bar downwards, and upwards hitting different areas of the chest. Normal bench press isnt successful for everyone, as my shoulders & triceps come into play most of the time. I have a pretty small plane chest which I want to build up and I want one of these springs but there so hard to get hold of!

First dude, a "mad pump" doesn't mean **** as far as growth.
Normal bench press? Whats a normal bench press?
Bench pressing works. Do wide grip, narrow grip, medium grip. incline, decline, all sorts of angles, even flat. Repeat all of the above with dumbbells. Work partials from the bottom, with boards from the top, use chains, bands, or hanging plates. Experiment with different rep speeds and numbers, vary the sets and time under load as well as rest intervals. There are a million chest presses out there to hit every angle of the chest with a ton of intensity. All and any of which are better at building a massive chest than goofing around with expander springs.
If you are working your shoulders and tris more than chest when doing bench, well.... you aren't doing it right. You need to read the exercise description again, watch a few good instructional videos on you tube, then practice the form with an empty bar.

Then you are a unique and special snow flake whos genetics/body dont work like every other humans. OR, your doin' them wrong.
At this point your chest is likely lagging behind because you are not doing the right exercises or just plain doing them wrong.

If you like this toy then get one, but if you think this is going to get you to your goals, have fun.

You've been working out for six years and still don't know how to do a proper bench press? Kind of sad really. If I want to work my shoulders doing flat bench I can if I want to work my tri's doing flat bench I can It isn't the best exercise for it but it works. When I want to work chest doing flat bench I work using my chest, it is about the mind muscle connection and only using the muscle you want to to do the lift, otherwise known as proper form. When I look at your ab pictue your are correct you need more upper chest, the only thing I find that really hits this for me is incline presses, without allowing my shoulders to do much of the work.

I've heard of mind muscle connection and i've done that mate but I still feel that im not benefiting. My older brother has got a wicked chest but thats because of genetics. As with incline presses I agree with you on that and I always try do that first as before I used to do flat bench first. By the way that picture is old I was 16 in that and now im 22. My chest and back are weak points!
