Hey everyone. I have finally decided to make the plunge. Starting after my wedding on June 12th I am going to make some big life changes. Things will finally start to slow down. Between getting into school, military stuff and the wedding I'm pretty busy. The first week of June I'm in Florida for a week for military training and then the next week is the wedding and then the big plan starts.
Here is the big plan...As soon as I close on a house, my friend and I are quiting our jobs and taking a bunch of our clients with us. We are going to train hardcore and get jobs as bouncers(they are in need in the area). We have enough clients to get us started and my girl just graduated so she will have a full time job. When I start school in the fall I will actually be making more money going to school than I am full time. We are just sick of the shotty business and being disrespected.
Also I have made it a personal goal to compete in an MMA fight within the next 5 years. It seems like it may actually be doable this time. I have been into MMA for the last few years and wrestling all though high school. I didn't get a chance to do much wrestling because it was such a powerhouse wrestling school and I was too old but I did watch it a lot.
Unlike most people I really study the match and the moves. Try and understand what is going on and what they did wrong. I bought Ken Shamrocks book that explained the basics and had pictures. I always thought they look pretty easy to do but I know pulling it off against a real person is a lot different, but that is when everything changed.
One of the guys I work with is always cocky about his martial arts that he has been doing for 4 years but I just felt like I could take him on the ground. One night at my place we were arguing about BJJ and he said its worthless so I got mad and told him I would show him the basics. He learned pretty quick that someone can take you down and still stay out of your kicking range and from there it wasn't even close. He couldn't do anything on the ground. We kind of went at it for the next half hour with me showing him stuff and trying it out but we kept getting into it and it ended with me choking him out. That tap tap tap was awesome and since then I have been pumped to try and do this.
I thought he would feel the same way but hes like dude to do a MMA fight it takes years of pratice. He didn't seem real into it. Either way I got him to do some stuff with me again...wrestling. We did some modified wrestling. Basicly we were going over the wrestling basics but ended them with a submission. This night wasn't even close I reversed everything he did and totally controled him on the ground. I could start on the bottom and have him reversed and choked out in a matter of seconds. When I was going for the last choke he was like dude stop I'm gassed. Well this guy only does endurance stuff and I only do strength stuff so that made me feel pretty good. Now I do out weigh him by 20 pounds but still made me feel good.
Looks like I will still have some people to train with though. My friend said he would show me some striking but my sisters BF said he will box with him. He has been boxing his whole life and is thinking about joining an MMA gym. He seems pretty serious with it too so thats 1 person I could train with. Also one of my clients expressed intrest. I was pumped because I can train with him everyday and he will be a tank. The kid is 16 and weighs about 140. He was not strong at all to start with but we have been working together for some time and now the kid is doing deadlifts with 225, benching 125 and doing lat pulldowns and seated rows with almost 200 pounds. If he could get used to throwing my weight around he could be a tank.
We are going to start training together using the Bas Rutten videos and then when we have a grasp on that and are in top shape we will join an MMA gym.
Goals:
Weight from 194 down into the 170s.
Work on endurance, it sucks.
Flexibility-Lower back and lower body sucks.
Get as good as we can with wrestling, BJJ, and boxing.
Get as good as we can at judo and muay thai.
Join MMA gym.
Starting Stats
Height 5'8 1/2
Weight 194
Bench Max 320(best ever) 275 for 7 reps is best lately.
Squats(coming back from back injury) 275 for 8 reps and 95 for 30 reps.
Deadlifts(coming back from back injury) 275 for 6 reps and 95 for 30 reps.
Seated Row 250 lb max.
Lat Pulldown(hands close) 230 max.
I will put down what I do in the mean time but the 3rd week of June is when it is going to get serious.
Any comments or tips are welcome. Thanks :)
