i have 4 main workout days. one is centered around bench. no problem.
the others are giving me pause....my weight is down 8 pounds since i started these 6 weeks ago.....my body fat, which was low to begin with, is now almost non-existent, visually. i am not a big eater, and in fact struggle with eating, so presumably my metabolism is eating away at my fat stores. not a bad thing i suppose, but i'm fearful that it's cutting into muscle, or at least inhibiting muscle gain.
my other 3 workouts are brief but intense....30 minutes or less.
one centers around 20 rep squats. one around 15 rep deadlifts (please, not looking for a form/safety argument on high rep deads). and one centers around an overhead/hang clean complex.....for instance, today i did 3 sets (8,6,4), where i did 135 lbs overhead press, and then without putting the bar down, i then do hang cleans for the same reps. this last workout is particularly brutal...even moreso than the 20 rep squats.
i'm not sure what i'm looking for here, as i'm not sure if i like/dislike where this is going. i suppose i'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with workouts of this type and the calorie/protein angle to counteract the increase in metabolism.
as far as diet goes, i've never been a calorie counter....3 squares, post workout drink 35 g protein, a pbj with 16 oz of skim milk 3 times a day in between meals.
thoughts?
