last saturday i ran from the north rim to the south rim, was epicly awesome (and 23 miles lol). good luck. bring lots of water, and DO NOT bring plain water (if you drink plain water and dont take in any sodium you will be screwed).

yeah make sure you have plenty of sodium in your water, i went there before, and if you don't have enough sodium and your running, or doing physical activity, you'll get cramps easily. but anyways i think you'll enjoy it, and hope you have a good trip!

You ran? Really? The first time I went to the Grand Canyon I decided to take a small hike at the South Rim down for a few hours and hike back up. My girlfriend was sleeping in, so I wanted to be back by 12noon. I walked in the cool morning air and love it, but looked at my watch and had to turn around. I brought 1.5 liters of water with me and since I had never hiked, I thought it would take me the same time to get back up. The sun came out and started to cook me and I thought I was going to die (July). I didn't drink any water walking down, but coming back-up, I drank that 1.5 liters in no time. I took some breaks, but I thought I would never make it to the top. I knew I was going to pass out at any time and have to be carried out. I was 1 1/2 hour late and my girlfriend thought I was lost. I was never so glad to reach the top!

lol ya i know exactly how you felt, the last three miles, coming up the south rim, were hell! it was amazing, every mile felt as if it took forever, like the last 1.5 miles between the final water stop and the finish line were torture, i threw up twice and i remember thinking '**** im gonna die here' lol. in order to stay properly hydrated, i brought a 100oz camelback and refilled it whenever possible, and mixed in some cytomax at 1/2-3/4 strength with a little added salt. its kind of an interesting experience to push yourself to the limit. it did take some pretty serious long distance running training though obviously (i tried to get at the very least about 50 miles per week), seeing as its almost as long as a marathon. just remember this advice, if you ever plan on crossing, start at 5AM or you will get cooked lol.
