Hey everyone. Im currently 3.5 weeks out from my first show and iv been dieting for 13 weeks so far. My food source have been pritty liminted and i havent been getting much variety. For protein im eating, tuna, chicken, whey and casein. Fat is from olive oil and peanut butter (only 20g a day) carbs come from oats and dextrose (during workout) i occasionaly have brown rice maybe like 2 meals a week. Im cooking my chicken in herbs like paprika, chilli flakes, crodiander and pepper etc. I also have quite a bit of splenda like up to 15g a day. From the eight week out mark iv stuck to these food sources totally.
I decided to start eating smoked salmon for a change last week so i had 100g a day as a meal for two days, weighed myself the morning after these two days and had put on two lb. i couldint figure out why id gained weight but i looked on the salmon label and its got 2.7g of salt per 100g which is high. And i reckon, well im almost certain it was the salt causing me to retain water. I drank lots of water for next few days and had lost that weight and more so it was def water.
I remember reading a post by stayfit saying he added salt to his meal during prep?? Would it be an idea to start adding in salt or is there no need to? cause im getting very little justnow. Also if it i should be getting more salt will my body have time to adjust to it (i.e loose the water il gain from increase in salt) before the contest if i just keep water intake high. Im not playing with sodium during peak weak, just keeping it consistent. Also the post contest bloat is going to be epic if i put on 2lb from 200g of smoked salmon lol
Sorry iv rambled on im just not sure on this one. Thanks for any input

Personally, I salted my foods during prep (and off season too). I put salt on my eggs, chicken, salmon, veggies, whatever. Im not a salt fiend or anything, but just enough for some flavor. According to what ive read by Dr. Joe, Layne, etc your body will naturally regulate sodium to whatever levels it needs and shed the rest. To me, it makes sense to take in sodium for good muscle contraction, pumps.....and, oh....you need it to live (minor detail). So, if im gonna pump out the excess, Im not gonna worry about it as long as the sodium and WATER remains relatively constant. And......it works. I dont retain water as long as I keep my water high. Now, if I go out and have a big salty plate of chinese food, the next day, im packing an extra 3 lbs of water. But, its gone the following day as soon as the body has a chance to pump it out.
