Good idea, Todd!

So, who are your favorites to win or place?

I think there was a lot of good work. The most dramatic that I could find honestly was Izman. As far as anyone else, I have no idea what the judges are looking for. Hopefully they will go with a variety of starting and finishing points. I see that Ericglo didn't finish. That makes me sad. As I said I would finish, but the front is still terrible. I am going to do another 12 weeks. Hoping to stay at a constant 1.5-2lb loss per week and lose another 20-25lbs. Maybe less if I can gain a little more muscle.

With that many entries I was hoping there would have been more finishers. Sdilly did a fine job. I saw some other serious shredders there. Since there was no announcement of a cancellation I'm hoping they are still doing the prizes. Whomever they pick will have done some serious work and it would be nice if they got something for it. I just personally liked the recognition from people who could see I worked my azz off even if I didn't do as well as many others.

Anyway, thanks for starting this thread.

On or about June 25th, they say. Long time to wait! Especially for those top contenders!

I think you put on some good mass, dude.... what size are those monster arms? Look as big as my thighs, or bigger! :D

Yes, too bad about ericglo, he did so well the first couple of months. I agree about Izmanv, and sdilly22, those guys were impressive, for sure. Have to add graffalanamous to that, he lost what, 80 pounds? And it's amazing how well his stomach skin bounced back! Must be his young age! ;)

I hope you do keep on going another 12 weeks, and beyond, pack. Certainly no reason to stop now! I'm sure some will drop off the map, and go back to their old, unhealthy lifestyles. I don't think you will be one of them!

graff certainly did great as well! Thanks for the confidence :) Wish my skin bounced back that well. I think mine is a little slower, but I think it will get there. It is starting to catch up. You did a nice job getting rid of the fat and gaining muscle. You and Holly made a great team. That had to be fun to do it together.

Yeah, I noticed. Hopefully that won't disqualify them. I had like 247 words by count. I wanted to say a LOT more myself. I didn't get a chance to check, but it didn't seem like that many for the 1400 or whatever signed up.

I just did a whole grain waffles with fresh strawberries with splenda mixed in. Nothing big. I did work out the first day I carbed up for pics though. That did feel amazing :) Had more energy lifted even heavy than normal. Which none of my strength went down for the contest, but I also didn't get low enough bodyfat yet for that to be effected I think.

I hate to say it rules are rules, they disq. people for not using the right paiper
why would they bend the rules for people who brake other rules?

I had a couple of servings of lasagne, back on lean pork and asparagus today. Only difference from diet is, I allowed myself a teaspoon of light butter spread on the veggies. Strength is starting to come back slowly.

What up folks. Thanks for hooking up the link Pack and thanks for starting one Rescue.

Lots and lots of awesome transformations went on. Wish I had pushed a little harder. It was a great learning experience and for sure a life style for me now. I doubt any of us will go back to the old us. It will be interesting to see who sticks with it and who doesn't. I think we should have a picture posting every 3 months or so to keep us honest and on top of our game, what do you all think?

Just poked my head in here so that I can subscribe to the thread.

The transformations and how people have changed their lives is just amazing. In this down time in the economy this contest gave us all something to look forward to. It inspired me to go to the gym when I would have rather sat in front of my computer. It helped motivate me to push a little harder for more reps and heavier weights.

Now I know I can do it and I hope to continue my progress, but without the jump start this contest offered, I would not be where I am today. Speaking of today, yesterday I slipped and fell in the bottom of our concrete pond on my arse. If I had to injure myself, I glad it happened after the contest. gah. I havent hurt my tail bone in like 10 years. I forget how much it hurts.

They bent a lot of rules last year, like same backgrounds, lighting, similar clothing, and such. I'm predicting they will be a little more strict this year, given the quality of the field this time. They will have a lot more to choose from, and I would guess if they call 2 people dead even, then the guy who followed the rules a little better may get the nod in a tiebreaker. Just a guess, I'm not a judge. They could prove me wrong and make it 90 percent marketability, and 10 percent technical too. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hey Folks, good luck for the next few months.
I'm going to be taking some time off from the weights. I get my knee scoped next Friday and I'm going to use the recovery time to try and rehab my other injuries. I've got severe tennis elbow in one arm and a mild case in the other, as well as triceps tendonitis, chronic right pec strain, and left shoulder bursitis. This contest took a lot out of me and hopefully I can get back to normal within 5 or 6 weeks. I'm going to have to be extra strict with the diet, and I'll ease back into some cardio as soon as my knee will let me. My hope is that by July I can hit the weights again with the upper and lower body. I could continue to lift now, but nothing is going to heal until I stop, and I don't want any more cortizone shots.
I'll still be active in this thread and look forward to seeing how everyone is doing.
Thanks for creating this thread, Madden.

So if you go heavy what rep range do you like to do? I seem to respond best with the 8-12 rep range, but I seem to get the most out of the 12 reps. How about sets? I usually do 4 sets per exercise. I don't mind if I got extra heavy on the 4th set if I can get up 8.

Not going all out on cheat meals I am giving myself a one week break on training and nutrition to give a my body a physcial and mental break while still eating healthy Im not going to deprive myself or something if I want it. like if I go down the isel in the grocery store and see an apple pie and I really want to eat it..Ill grab it.I mean as long as a person keeps lean I see no use dieting hardcore like weve all been doing unless theres a contest coming up.

I think your list is pretty solid, I think Respectmyhouse and Giftedwonder should probably be added as possible top ten. And I'm pretty certain at least one woman will place, maybe Pophead or IronDiva..... and there's a lot more folks I just can't remember. Could be they will look at it differently than we have and surprise everyone. But frankly, I would be shocked if the winner does not come from your list.

This is going to be one hard contest to judge! I'm blown away!

I guess it depends on how the judges give weight to the criteria! I am so unsure of who the winner is, I don't even want to say who I think will take it! I have a good idea of who will place, but to pick the winner is totally different!

I'm just glad most of you guys didn't know about last year, until after I won! LOL There were guys that looked better than me last year, but my overall A-Z transformation was easily a standout. If they judge the same way, it will be tough based on Graf not fully being ripped, but damn close! Will that sway the judges...or will they give him some room. On the other hand.....some of these guys went from good....to sooooo freaking incredible....and that is also a huge transformation! Which one will it be????? Your guess is as good as mine!

I'm going to go over my list with a fine tooth comb...I will post my top 4 guys this weekend. Last year, I found out very quickly that I won....this year though....will probably be a long wait to find out! Just tougher to judges this year!

I think Pophead's got her beat. Fo-Sho.

Not trying to push her down here, but her legs are still big and especially around the knee's and Butt. There was no huge transformation...just some transformation and some dark tan! Not good for marketing! She did an amazing job.....don't get me wrong...but this is judging time!

This is about judging now...no hard feelings, but Energizer had more of a transformation to me and am being so unbiased about my criteria. Iron was 2nd and Pop 3rd...Its about the transformations here....but if you were fat and lost a ton of weight, but not all of it...you wouldnt be picked...simple marketing! Iron looks tighter than POP easy! Energizer Bunny looks tighter than both!

With your transformation MD BAMA....I think it was great, but i seriously doubt your going to place! Your finish was incredible, but as an overall transformation, you have been beat hands down...by some fat guys...lol...well former fat guys! You did an amazing job, but you started so clean....it doesnt look as dramatic! Sorry...just being honest.....remember this is only my opinion.....but I do know what they are looking for!

Thanks for noticing about the Over 40 Trans. of the Week (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/over_40_transformation_mike_packham.htm). All of you should send in your stuff.

NGA's doing a Northern States comp on May 30th here in Utah. Since I had to join for my last show, and my polygraph test is good for 90 days, I'm toying with the idea of doing it. It's only $35 to enter--about as much as I'd pay just to go watch. They'll still just have the Masters (over 40) class, so I'm destined to be left in the shadows of the big guys, but it would be good experience and fun.

I had a "cheat meal" yesterday--a buffet. 4 big plates of food, and then 3 bowls of ice cream. Now I'm back to eating smart.

This is going to be one hard contest to judge! I'm blown away!

I completely agree, I would hate to be a judge in this. There were sooooo many awesome transformations and of all different types. You had people that already had muscle and came in completely JACKED, people who lost a TON of weight, while others managed to put on quality muscle while still staying lean. It is all on the judges.

Brad, I am honored I made your list. Thank you. To be honest, towards the end of the contest (about a month left) I really felt I had a good chance of making the bottom part of top 10 maybe Honorable Mention because of how my body was responding. However, this thought was extremely short lived once I saw all the amazing transformations pouring in from everyone. I have always been my own toughest critic (as most of us are) but I have to be honest, I can easily pick out 10 (actually more than that...lol) transformations that to me, where more impressive than mine. Don't get me wrong, I feel like my transformation was great and I am extremely happy with what I have accomplished but some of the people I have seen have been nothing short of AMAZING!!!

I guess I will be the first one to pic a winner...lol, I hope I don't lose any friends. If I was forced to pic an overall winner with the criteria being the largest transformation coupled with presenting an extremely shredded package I would have to go with TMan. This is just my opinion, I have no idea what the judges will be looking for, I know a part of it has to do with marketability but he is my pic. But again, there are so many GREAT transformations to choose from, I would not be suprised at all if it went in another direction.

Must have wrote it poorly. I meant that was awesome you have a show pretty soon and meant that I would like to be able to do a show next year. Hope you do well! I'm sure it will be exhilarating.

I will be around for some time. I'm going to try and top my last transformation starting May 15th since I didn't come in super ripped. So yeah, I will be around to help keep some of you motivated and who knows maybe I will come back like you all expected me to from the beginging :) ;)

Trans, can't wait to see what type of package you bring...I know you will not dissapoint. Make sure you keep us all posted.

Should have been over 50 LOL
GREAT JOB U DESERVE IT :-)

Good Job everyone!

I still have about a week of dieting left for a show that's coming up on may 16th. Ill be competing in the junior class and the show is tested so I think I have a good chance to place high in the 175lbs and up junior class.

It will be weird not having to measure food and weigh everything when my diet is over. Cant wait to start my serious bulk and move on to an NPC show by the end of this year.

- Us tall Guys hold the weight better. I still got 4 more weeks of this to go. Appreciate the honesty. The main thing is Ill get to be that guy everyone hates in the bathing suit back at school when Fall semester comes up.

I do plan on doing another 12 weeks. I want to lose the weight at a slower pace and see how that goes. Shooting for 220lbs after this 12. I wouldn't mind posting updated pictures as I go if people are interested. I would surely like to see if people take it even further. Or just keep in contact. Sounds like many want to do a clean bulk. That might be a refreshing change :)

Anyone have good tips to help those who want to do a clean bulk? Or point in the direction of a good article?

guess I'll agree with you but I did have high bodyfat, I'm just good at posing so I can really suck my stomach in instead of letting hang or even blowing out...it didn't come to me until half-way through that I should have just let my stomach hang natural and not tense up my muscle so much so I looked smoother...the best an example is if you look at the pic with me holding the newspaper, I definitely looked overweight...oh well, if I don't place I hope they see me as a potential recruitment for sponsorship...I just want to sh*t, eat, live bodybuilding. Has been a great journey with you guys though, I love coming home and click the refresh button to see all the new comments...as of right now, I've never looked better in my life but I've never felt worse in my life...what I mean about worse is because of my bodyfat being so low and working so hard to keep every ounce of my muscle for my upcoming show...I'm a bouncer at night too so just imagine being drained and then deal with drunk people all night.

But frankly, I would be shocked if the winner does not come from your list.

thanks charles well his updated list still does not include me but if i can pull off placing it will be even sweeter now lol but everyone has changed so much its really going to be impossible to judge many people have some many strongpoints its going to be who has the least weakpoints who wins and i know i gave it all i could so i think i have a shot at placing

Looks like around 107-108 finishers, so it's technically a little more than 10 to one odds of any given person placing! How are you top contenders feeling about having to wait another month and a half for the news? Hehe, I know I would be going bonkers if I were you!

It going to drive me bonkers anyway. I am excited to see who they end up recognizing. The one thing that we won't know though is how they came to their decisions. I think that would be nice thing to know too, but that might also make some people upset.

I'm hoping I get this next 12 weeks figured out quicker than the last. I really want to keep the muscle I have and not lose any, but still lose around 2lbs a week. I figured out how to gain a little and lose quicker the last 12 weeks, but I doubt my body is going to gain muscle as easily now. Since what I was doing before was so new I believe my body responded more shall we say easily. I think it gets tougher from here. I'm about where a lot of people started the last 12 weeks. So I will surely have adjustments to make. Hope people around here can help me out :)

Even though he started in 2007, he kicked some serious butt in a little over a year. That took some hard work and determination for sure. Well, so does being able to get as low as 3.51% was it that you ended this contest with? That was surely no easy thing to do. Did you end up losing any muscle to get that low? It doesn't look like you lost any.

Thats not true at all! If you look at the dates on his pictures, he started in 2007.....his start pics for the contest dates were not as dramatic as....well his 1 1/2 year transformation.

Who cares though....the guy lost sooooo much weight and looks freakin 100 times better now. I bet he wishes the dates were more inline with his work.

He is an inspiration to many on here, but his actual transformation during the contest was NOT the most dramatic. There was one guy last year that lost a **** load of weight....can't remember his name, but he was the most dramatic.............if muscles at the end didn't matter. If they did....which they did.......Mine was...LOL

It's not about just burning the fat off.....its about doing that and being ripped at the end! If it was about just being ripped, this year.....I would say hands down SPEACLKR .....last year i thought I lost to him....until the call!

You have great natural physique.....kevin....look at georgie....holy cow...this is crazy stuff....and you guys look awesome!....Like Pro am....quality!

thanks, if a year ago you asked me if I thought I could look the way I do now...I would laugh at the idea...there are muscles I see now that I thought was never possible to achieve with my body, now I'm addicted and just want more... I don't think I lose any muscle because all my auxillary workouts went up, the 2 exercises that went down a bit was my bench and my squat...wasn't too happy about that because those two exercises are my favorite, oh well...I think I will be losing some from here on though because I will being doing a lot more cardio coming up these last 4 weeks before my first NPC show...I want to come in paper thin...

I have to agree with you on the addiction part. I feel the same way at this point. Makes me wonder (I am surely no expert) if those two exercises went down mostly due to glycogen depletion? Since they are seriously compound exercises that incorporate so many different muscles? I also like to bench. I used to hate squats. They are tough, but I learned to like them a lot after noticing results and just how draining they were. I think you are definitely going to come in paper thin. You've shown that you can really shred. Good luck with your show as well! I imagine it is a national qualifier?

I really do appericate the kind words...it's definitely partially related to glycogen levels, glycogen helps shuttle water into your muscle so it aids you in having that extra bounce to push the weight...I also fatigued quicker since glycogen was lower in my muscles...Nervous system also gets attacked when dieting, to handle maximum amount of weight you need every part of your nervous system to work at 100%. yep, this is a national qualifier...everyone always said to me and recommended that I do smaller shows and then step up to the big one...my thought process is, "Go big or go home!!!" yeah, any squat sucks for me too....such a hate/love relationship but if I don't limp out of the gym I know I didn't do enough on leg days...It's been a boring and uneventful Sunday so I decided to make up my posing routine, wanna see what you guys think about it...kind of raw but it's an idea of my style of posing....I love old school transition posing...

That was what I was thinking just wasn't sure if I was right. Definitely on the same page with love/hate for squats. If my legs are totally hammered I didn't work hard enough. I like your thoughts on go big or go home. That makes me smile. That is pretty much what I believe when I go to the gym. I don't really focus on the weight I got from where I was last time and then just go as heavy as I can each set. If I feel exhausted or and there's nothing left then I enjoy what I've done for the day. I like the posing routine. The lat flares both frontal and rear look great. I was most impressed with the transition to the most muscular pose. That was wicked :)

What's up guys. Now that the contest is over some of you may be finding it hard to stay on the path of sucess and some you are still doing great. If your having trouble I welcome you to join me on my 15 day challenge starting May 15th. Check out my blog if your interested. Once again I am here to motivate just like before and I will continue to do so.. Hope you all are still pumping strong!!!

I haven't ate any unclean foods. I have upped my caloric intake by a little. I want to still lose weight, but at a slightly slower pace in hopes of keeping what muscle I have and possibly gaining just a few lbs of muscle in the next 12 weeks. So it is a test the first week or two to see just how my body is going to respond. Already have changed my workouts, but I was already doing that every 2 to 3 weeks anyway.

That's kewl on your 15 day challenge. Just trying to see how much you can lose in that time? Or is it just starting with a small goal to get you on track?

I'll take any motivation from the good people here as I can get. I haven't been able to do quite as much cardio this week. With taking the pics and getting ready for the baby some days the cardio was cut out. But with me, that just means the next cardio session was a little longer and a lot more grueling :) After I hit my legs hardcore on squats yesterday then went straight to as heavy as I could go leg presses my legs and glutes were beyond sore. So I just added 5 more minutes to my HIIT session this morning. My muscles were a bit angry until they got warmed up.

I hear that. I went out and carbed up. Just went back into cut mode on May 11th. I will post pictures May 30th with my new results ;).

Just starting with a small goal to get back on track and see what I end with. Being on diet for 14 weeks I needed I break. I feel the break was good. I still have my abs and my bench shot up 50 pounds easy since I cut the diet. Benching 350 for ONE...

I'm glad your still at it man. Once you get it off it will be easy to keep it off. At least I have found that to be true. I have been eating around 4000 cals a day but like I said I started diet mode today and now have it around 1800 cals.

I will get with you in a little while, I need to do some work here at WORK? lol.

Sounds like a good way to get back into it to me. Yeah, that glycogen depletion is the real sh*ts! I was at 240-241 for ending pics. Once I carbed up a bit I was back up to about 248lb. I'm back to around 240lb today.

I thought I already said? Maybe not. I like Izman for it and possibly Graff. Hope I hurt no one's feelings, but that to me is the biggest improvements. If they want to go from smaller to bigger muscle Kenwood would have that hands down. He gained a boat load of muscle.

If they want absolute shredded regardless of where they started Kevin really shredded. Other shredded quite well too. I simply would have trouble being a judge this year I think. There wasn't a shortage of hard working people!

Thanks. I am sure your dad would be proud. You did one heck of a job yourself. My wife is really happy with my progress. She said she likes being able to comfortably put her arms all the way around me :)

I wish I could use natty peanut butter to help with protein intake. My wife is severely allergic. So if I was to even get residue on something and she happen to touch that something we would be in the emergency room :( I am using some natty almond butter, but it is a big price difference and can't do it much. The peanut is 1.94 a lb and the almond is 4.78.

Anyone else that can ring in with good protein or fat sources that are on the cheaper end?

Yeah the natty PB thing kinda sucks but it is for the wife's safety. Almonds are good but expensive just as you mentioned. Have you looked into any type of fish oil pills? They are pretty cheap and last for a while. I usually take about four a day and a $25 bottle will last a good two months if not more.

I'm sure you do wish he could see you. The way I believe he does see you! I'm sure he is proud and blown away by such a terrific transformation. Yeah, I do the fish oil with the max amount of Omega-3. Tis a very good idea, but one I had implement already. My doc had said to do it for joints and to lower triglyceride levels.

its sooo hard to pick a winner because it depends what they are looking for. Two me there are several groups of guys that can make the top ten not sure who will get first...

heres my three groups of guys. I think the top ten will consist of a couple out of each group. Each group has several more guys in them then i picked i just used a couple examples.

1) greatest weight loss but still have alittle fat, I'm confident they will make top ten
Iz and Graff

2) Lost Alot of weight but not as much as iz and graff but came in shredded so no more weight to lose
looking forward, hopefully Sdilly lol one or two more but i forget their names sorry.

3) best looking physiques, these dudes look professional but were also in pretty good shape in the beginning.
specialk, kevin, sonic, georgia.

i havnet picked a winner but i went through and picked who i thought was the best of the 3 body types(endo, ecto, meso) and from that i counted out about 20-21 possible winners including 2 ladies
i see more Ecto profiles then anything else though, so many tranformations look alike in that catogory. i guessing they are going to take top 2 or 3 out of each "type" and pick a overall winner..sort of like a bodybuilding contest.. best in class-then overall winner

man i have to say, Madden you have some thick skin bro... i was looking for this tread and alot of people talked mad noise about you and your transformation last year, not to mention the 'slack" you started getting from the forum this year.. thats confidence at its finest!

Man...this is so true. It can really go anyway. There were so many to choose from. If I had to guess there will be a mixture of each type in the top 10. Now it is just a matter of which top 10 do the judges choose :)

It won't be easy, especially after looking at the pics of everyone that Holly put together for us. I am really impressed with the group that participated this year.

That is a nice line up, funny that only a 100 plus people out of 1600 finished. even guys that posted in the forum up to the 6th. Although it got testy toward the end of the contest, i have to admit I am a little shocked that everyone seems to still be humble..one of the biggest side effects of losing weight is gaining a "bad, diva, i am all that, look at the fight guy over" attitude.. congrats to the humble

How about cottege cheese. I mix mine with fruit, yogurt or jello mix. I also make OLDMANSKINNEY's pancakes with it. Almonds and Walnuts are options for snacks. Then there is your typical eggs, tuna, salmon and other fish. Just remember Pack, this is going to be a life long change. Play around with different clean foods that you are going to like, because you have a long time to eat them.

lol...I know a couple of those types of guys. For me, I can easily think back to a couple of months ago when I was the "out of shape guy" and how it felt not to be motivated or have the drive to regain my self-esteam. I wouldn't wish that on anybody and sure wouldn't make fun of those who are still at that point in thier lives. I am still a beginner at this but if I can help anyone in anyway it would be an honor. I am gald to see, just as you are, that all of us who have completed this contest are thinking along those same lines. We are supposed to be a brotherhood (and sisterhood...lol), it is nice to see us all acting like one for once.

I was talking about buying the almond butter in bulk. Those two prices of 1.94 for peanut and 4.78 for almond was bulk :( I would love your recipe to do the almond butter on my own. The almonds themselves here in bulk I think are around 3 so that would save some. Thanks man. I gotta watch at least for now how many yolks I eat. While the whites can bring up your good cholesterol the yolks can bring up the bad pretty high. I don't need the cholesterol med anymore, but enough yolks could bring me back:( I think that will get better though as I lose more and more of my own fat. I'm not a big fan of walnuts, but I can surely add them in to give a variety.

Oh yeah! :) Love cottage cheese. Never tried the jello thing. I like mine with some salsa mixed in as well or some hot sauce. The pancakes of his I do from time to time as well. We are eating more fish around here and I like my cans of tuna. I've definitely treated this as a lifestyle change. That's another reason I asked for ideas. I figured you guys would have some stuff you've done or tried that I may not have even thought about :) Such as the jello in the cottage cheese. Thanks.

I love getting the feedback guys. Makes for conversations and good ideas. Creativity in a clean diet makes thing so much more interesting and tasty!

I tried some fresh green beans in my eggs a few times. That good stuff if you like green beans. I wasn't sure it would be good in eggs, but they were fantastic.

I think you'll lose fat like crazy for those couple of weeks. Your calorie count assuredly went up and your metabolism most likely shot up. It got to come out of a mode that was slowed for a long period of time. Now you are going to bring it back to a lowered count. I'm thinking it might be like a furnace for a bit :) Kick some butt with that man!

dont let it DIE!!!!

So I have a question. I have started to slowly add carbs back into my diet. As of right now the only thing I have changed in my diet is that I am now having 40-50 grams of carb after my workout. The thing is, I have been incredibly tired at work the last week or so. Is this normal? I thought the carbs would give me more energy

That's an interesting dilemma. That isn't something I have heard of before. Maybe you are feeling sluggish because you need to re-balance? You know like maybe that is too many calories and it is bogging you down?

My gym offers free classes. I think I'm going to take the Hatha Yoga class. Sounds interesting and it is supposed to improve flexibility. I hear it is relaxing and can help with recovery too. Anyone taken a yoga class before?

Yoga is really good to add to your workout sched. Even adding it in once a week is great. It stregthens all your stabilizers and gives you a stretch!

Sounds great to me. I think I am going to give it a try next Thursday morning. I may get curious before that and try it sooner. Thursday would just be a good morning because it is a light day for me. Just core work. And thanks for the feedback!

Hey everybody!!! :)

Nice to see some of us still posting together. Found this thread and was flattered seeing my name mentioned. THANKS!!

Hope your training is going well and you're healthy.

After final pics, I ate! ....and ate.... and ate... lol I've put on 15lbs from final pic day. What's cool is that I'M HUGE! Bodyfat scale still reads between 8 and 10 percent depending on time of day I weigh myself. My muscles really filled out. I was so depleted for those final pics. I had only one day carb-up for the final shots. Should've taken several days - live and learn I guess. There are things I would do differently. If the judges DO recognize my transformation and decide that with my enthusiasm, communication skills, and support for MuscleTech products that I AM the grand prize winner this year - I'm going to be absolutely SHREDDED when I meet Dexter Jackson! :)

I really thank MuscleTech and Bodybuilding.com for the opportunity and motivation to start the journey. And I thank all of YOU for the support and motivation to make the transformation. I'm still amazed at everyone's progress! Really cool.

On with the show! I still have some fat to lose so that's going to be gone by the end of June. Gonna really tear up my legs for the rest of May. They whithered the most those last couple of weeks. With a surplus of good calories and good stimulation I should be able to add some size to them. Then it's time to bring back the fat-burning workouts. Since it's not for a contest I'm going to try something a little bit different this time. If it goes well, I'll share!

Train hard, stay healthy, and be happy!

thats what i did basically. I gave myself a mental and physcial break from the gym and from the diet, including counting calories..some meals were healthy some meals were whatever I want. one week is fine to do this. Im back on a diet for a particular goal right now.

OMG! How did you access my secret diet log? It's passworded.... and offline.... in a cement vault.... somewhere on the moon!!! You're resourceful - gotta give you that! ;)

(Of course, they were all MuscleTech Twix bars and chocolate syrup - and they were loaded with nutrients! mwahahahahahaaaaaaaaa!!! )

Now... if I had to give a different answer because not many people (yes, there'd be a few!) would believe my twix diet, I'd have to tell you....

I'm very carb sensitive - or is it insulin responsive? I dunno. If I eat carbs, I blow up. Both fat and muscle cells. Unfortunately, the fat cells hide all the muscle cells.

What I ended up doing was carefully monitoring and adjusting my carbs each and every day - throughout the day. I would keep my carb intake just enough to fuel my workouts and keep me clear headed throughout the day. I feel there's a "window" of carbs you can eat throughout the day. Maybe you can imagine a sliding scale.

On the low end of the carb-intake scale you'll barely have enough energy for workouts and your glycogen stores are very low. On the upper end your glycogen is full. What I feel is that if you eat above that top end, those extra calories will get stored as fat. Eat below your low end and your workouts suffer as well as your recovery ability. Your muscle cells need energy to rebuild and repair.

Since my workouts were very intense, I needed to keep well within that range, but still on the low side to try to burn as much fat as I could. Throughout the day I'd rely on "feel" primarily. I coupled that feel with consideration of what I did in the last 12-18hrs or so (how much do I need to repair/refuel), and what I have going on before the next meal or two. If I had a particularly intense or strenuous workout the night before, for example, I'd be sure to increase my carb intake a bit the next morning - especially if I "felt" like I needed it. Also, if I knew I was working larger muscle groups (legs for example), I'd be sure to load up a few more carbs before the workout.

Mind you, this "feel" isn't a check to see if I'm craving ravioli. You have to set all cravings aside, and try to get a feel for your energy level - your mental alertness, your physical fatigue (which is different than mental fatigue or the fatigue you feel from not getting enough sleep).

I may've made it more difficult than it needed to be, but my diet was a bit different daily because I tried to utilize what I've learned of the science behind nutrition. I always try to investigate EVERYTHING I read and apply it to real-world cases. Understanding your own body's digestion, absorbtion, insulin response, etc., and the way different foods (talking carb sources right now) behave in your system is important. It helps modify any diet to fit YOU specifically.

It sounds difficult, and it was a big guessing game pretty much for me at first. I was so worried everything wasn't "ideal" and I'd stall or backpedal. Soon, though, it really became second-nature, and I ate pretty much based on "feel" and a quick assessment of the surrounding day's activities. Regular tape measure readings were useful, too.

Aside from the carb manipulation, I made sure to eat at least a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. I rounded out the rest of my intake with fats. Gotta keep those fats ingested! They help with energy, and they keep your body accustomed to burning fat as fuel. Very helpful when your workouts release fatty acids into the bloodstream. Burn them off!

Of course, there was also a lot that I did with timing all of these things. Can't dismiss the supplementation, either. Those NitroTech shakes, Aplodan, Leukic, vitamins, etc., played a very important role in my transformation. I wouldn't've been able to complete such an extreme transformation without them.

Well, that just about covers it in a nutshell. ;)

Yeah, whatever you did, it sure worked for you! I feel like I lost a bit of the muscle I gained, in the last month of dieting. I may have been too low on my carbs, looking back on it. And I know I should have done more cardio, because fat really started melting off when I was doing two a days, but I think I burned some muscle as well. If I ever do this type of dieting again, I will start earlier and be more gradual, and eat more carbs.

Yo yo. Hows your diet going?

lol...I really appreciate it Trans. And here I was thinking you were ignoring me :) You did a great job pushing everyone throughout and I am glad to see you are still at it. I told you, I am looking forward to the pics, you got a great base to start from and I know you can get crazy ripped. 18 days and counting brother....

I don't ignore anyone, lol. I have been busy and a little jelious of you to come comment on your awesome progress. I keep on screwing up my diet so don't expect any great pics soon, lol.

It still lives? lol. I would eat carbs before my workout and some after. Maybe you are having some kind of a carb crash, like a sugar crash.

The week away from home went okay. We saw lots of our grandkids and enjoyed being out and about. We exercised all but one day. Joanie's "Silver Sneaker" pass got us into the YMCA in Nebraska. Even though the schedule and meals were a little less in my control, I'm 163@8.6%. Not bad.

I took the week off all of my supps. I wondered if that was why I was feeling light-headed often in the afternoon. A piece of fruit or other carb got me back into it again. We'll see this week if being back on the stack will effect it.

Right after the contest, I took a break from all supplements also, except for my protein powder, joint support, and multi-vitamin. It's taken me about 2 weeks to recover from carb depletion symptoms, finally thinking clearly again, with tons more energy.

Only 8(?) more days till they choose the Hydroxycut winner, and a month and a week till they announce the MuscleTech winner. I wonder why they wait so long? I bet they probably had a good idea who was going to win withing a couple days......

He's still not here. This labor is stretching on and on. Frustrating as hell. She's tired and very uncomfortable. I'm frustrated because I have to just watch and can't do jack to help. Doc won't induce yet either. He's only 2 or 3 days late so far and she isn't effaced enough yet without possibly causing her or the baby harm. So we wait. Been doing some walking around and shopping. That gets the contractions going a little harder, but it is still progressing slowly.

Try this:

Ground pepper and a feather. Catcher's mitt for the doc.

Sprinkle ground pepper on the feather, then tickle your wife's nose. She will sneeze. **PLOOP!** BRAND NEW BABY BOY!!! :)

Yeah, a bumpy ride could definitely speed up labor. No, it isn't harming either of them to have the prolonged labor. Doc was saying that this happens quite a bit more often than you might realize. We researched it a bit and it has a name that slips my mind at the moment. (too much stress right now I guess) The other kids are a little stress and anxiously awaiting their little brother, but everyone is healthy and that's all I'm going to ask God for. The actual delivery will happen when both her body and the baby are fully ready I think. Thank you for the prayers. Nothing works better than them :)

Are the 40-50g of carbs post-workout your only carbs? Complex or simple? Carbs that low and especially after working out only, can keep you in ketosis. If you want to keep carbs that low maybe add some more healthy fats to keep your energy sustained or have more carbs, personally I would have more carbs haha b/c of my love for carbs. Maybe another 50g in the morning, slowly add more til you are comfortable

I remember someone in the contest or participating in the MT Contest Thread saying that they do NOT believe in god. I have heard some folks say this off and on through out my life. My question???

How can you not believe in God, or at least Gods? You would leave me to believe a cosmic blast or some crazy biological happening made this? If it was a cosmic blast how did it happen that a female and male of each species magically happen to form and that if you put the two together they make babies. Not only that but one for humans, cows, goats and so on. That is rather impossible. Not to mention if two small cells did turn into a man and women wouldn't we start as cells that need nourishment to turn into babies, little babies and if so who fed these little babies to get them to full size and then make sure they had children and so on. (Not to mention all the weather conditions these little babies would have to live through with no shelter and so on, lol). That's my little rant. I could go on and on about odds of something like this happening but I just wanted clarification on why one does not believe in God, enlighten me please :)

I bring this to the MT contest because it came up in the MT contest thread I do believe. I could be wrong. lol.

Now who won the contest???

Just a quick comment on the Ezekiel bread, not to discredit it's wholesomeness or nutritional value. It is a very complete food source, but the recipe comes from a passage in the Bible in the book of, you guessed it, Ezekiel. But what is interesting is that it was supposed to be punishment. Ezekiel was to lie on one side, tied down, for 390 days. That's one day for each year of Israel's iniquity. The bread was to be portioned each day and baked over burning human dung, because Israel was under siege and unclean. It was then allowed by God for Ezekiel to use cow dung instead since human dung would defile him.

So, if you want to eat your ezekiel bread right, go toast it over cow dung. :)

On a different note, for those who care:
Tomorrow I'll be 1 week removed from my knee surgery (meniscus).
Doc said it was a "complex tear with extensive damage". However, I'm feeling pretty good and walking without pain already. It's just still a little tender. I should be back under the iron in a couple weeks.

well its varies from brand but in ny and i have looked many places for real deal eziekal bread and breads like it are over 6 a loaf lol its crazy .some are like 4 5 and they are small slices of bread also like the size of lite breads ......i did have to try it all out the hype i stocked up on a months supply of their bread tortillas and pasta i cannot afford to eat this yearly so i would save it for cuting the glycimic index on the one i buy made my foods for life which has the best reputation is soo low on the gi index its craazy but the taste noww.......honestly when you toast it its just a grainier whole wheat really......a lil more chewy but wit hturkey and fat free cheese its great man really is the pasta is veryy grainy and heavy tasting whole wheat is 100 percent better tasting but it is ok tasting and even better if you can get away with adding a nice healty tomato sauce or cokld with balsamic and olive oil the tortillas are good tasting very chewy if not toasted but still no problems eating those 3 things .......i also bought their cerial whiich tastes amazing with splenda and almond milk

Thanks, I cannot believe how much hatred there is for this piece of equipment. They can't get past seeing the word "Bowflex" and seeing the actual results that I got. All I am trying to prove to them is that you can get results with something other than freeweights. They say freeweights are the ONLY way to go, I say it's a matter of preference. It's definitely an ignorant opinion. I thought the bowflex couldn't do that either. Then I saw your results and was very impressed. The guys who are all only freeweights make me laugh anyway. What the hell do they think pushdowns are? Not freeweights. And how many of those same guys use a smith machine when they have no spotter for bench and squats? A smith machine is not free weight either. As soon as you take out all the stabilizers it is no longer a free weight exercise. How many of them do pulldowns :)

One guy told me the Bowflex had nothing to do with my gains, that was after arguing with me that all I did was lose fat. Another guy said he could accomplish the same thing with diet alone. So that is the kind of crap that I am having to defend myself from, the man of steel knows what I'm talking about. Everone uses machines in one form or another. Have you ever used a Bowflex? You do have to use stabilization muscles. The first time I used it with any kind of weight to speak of, I was shaking all over the place. To me, you get the best of both worlds, simulated freeweight and machine, with complete safety.

lol, what morons. No, I have never used a bowflex. I can say that any cable exercises I have ever tried you can shake, but it doesn't really require the kind of stabilization as free weights. I have no clue as to how much a bowflex does or doesn't involved stabilization. I doubt with resistance it gives quite a much as free, but I can see where it could be quite a bit. Such as if you use a smith machine. Smith machines are a fixed path so stabilization is next to nil. But say a cable pushdown does require stabilization. Even things such as doing a barbel bench press requires less stabilization than flat dumbell presses. So I hope you don't think I was knockin the bowfelx at all. Not I. I had an ignorant view of them before I seen your results :)

As for who will win, I couldn't say. Depends on if they are looking for maximum weight loss, a little weight loss but ripped, or weight loss with muscularity. Since this is the first year for that particular contest, there's no last year to compare to.

I didn't see them at all in the Original MT Contest Thread, not now in this thread, no updates on judging progress, no kind of advice on lifting or nutrition, lol. Kind of a joke if you ask me. Why spend all this money for advertising with the contest and not support the contest, lol. Seriously a waste of money and loss of potential customers if you ask me.

Anyway, how is everyone? Myself, I'm just chillin', lifting, eating. I'm getting excited for E3 which is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the big three show off games (big 3 being Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo). Should see some really cool games!! June 1st baby.

She does have some killer abs! As far as who I think will win. I have to ask myself "If I wanted someone to sell a health product, what would I look for in a rep?" "Who am I selling to?" I want someone with looks and a very nice body. I would be marketing to housewives who can see what can be accomplished with this product. All the ones mentioned above have done an outstanding job! I like my women not muscular but firm. In my eyes there is one clear winner. Oceanblue149, I think she most has the body other women would want. Just my opinion. I certainly agree with your assesment, Sarah is not hard to look at and has put a lot of effort into marketing herself well. She does have the "look" that can sell products. Depends on what Iovate wants to market the most. Do they want to appeal to the "beautiful people" who are looking to drop that last 5 or 10 pounds and look ultra - thin, or are they marketing towards the average overweight housewife who needs to drop 20-50+ pounds with a good diet product. That latter class of lady (or man) might look at a modest transformation and say to themselves, "They (the slim, sexy contestast) took that stuff for 12+ weeks and they only lost that much?" Whereas they may see someone who dropped 35+ pounds in 12 weeks and say "Hey, that stuff really works!" and be more motivated to buy the product.

But then again, Muscle Tech has not really tried to appeal to the average man in their marketing, either. They are always plastering their ads with the chemically - engineered mass - monsters with snarly faces and oil and sweat dripping off their veiny bodies, as if that is every supplement buyer's dream, to look like that. I don't ever recall seeing a MT ad with an average looking bodybuilder, you know, a guy that you can tell lifts weights, but that you might have to look twice at in a suit to tell.

Whatever the strategy, it will be fun to see who they pick to win, place and show. I'm sure they'll give us plenty to discuss, at the completion of both contests! ;)

Well, I can tell you Sarah lost 27lbs. That isn't just a little bit. Plus if they were smart they would still market her. She lost weight in a big way over more than 12 weeks as well. I think she probably used Hydroxycut before.

I believe Holly could easily appeal to the average housewife. She did a fantastic job herself showing the side that looks very realistic. That the product doesn't cause miracles. Sarah's long haul transformation is phenomenal. The way Iovate seems to go though is with an almost or absolute perfect look at the end of the transformation. Which I think sucks balls. I don't believe that taking a particular product is going to make me look that way. I do however get extremely inspired by the average person make moderate to large amounts of progress. Little chubby to ripped doesn't impress me as much.

I think that kind of transformation isn't easy either, but as for marketing to me I only feel discouragement. Maybe one day I can be the discouragement guy on in the ad? ;D

Please no one take offense, I mean nothing negative towards anyone.

I'm concentrating on some heavy lifting to see if I can gradually build up muscle mass without going through the old-school bulk/cut cycle. So far it seems to be working. They say that you should be able to put on 5 pounds of pure muscle every year. That's a pound every 2 months or so. Well, it's been 2 months since my show in April, and I'm up a couple of pounds of lean muscle mass and I've kept my bodyfat in the 8% range. I've been lifting 5 or 6 days a week and have only done cardio one or two days a week. I'm eating about 40% protein, 40% carb, and 20% fat, but smaller amounts than I was last winter when I did the big bulk.

That's excellent to hear! I've been trying this approach as well, my weight has gone up slightly, my diet has more fat and carbs, but I can still see my abs. Finally tonight at the gym, I noticed that my strength is back up to pre-diet levels, and I'm moving heavier weights again. I think I am looking more muscular, but it could be just wishful thinking, Lol! I will need to break out the tape and check it I suppose.

Very nice. Having more carbs is probably helping keep your muscles more filled out. Even though I stalled on actual weight loss, my muscles look better as well. Back to the weight loss thing this week though. My muscles have been good about not losing but gaining strength in weight loss mode. Just not as quickly as I do with more carbs.

That is just too awesome! Being able to see your abs well and gaining strength back. That is a triumph for sure. You thinking about maybe doing a show? I think you could do some damage on stage.

Congrats on the 21 weeks. That takes a lot of inner strength to break a habit like that.

Indeed! You can maintain a clean lifestyle, if you truly have your heart set on it. I am currently in my 680th week of clean and sober, it can be done. Keep up the good work, and find constructive things to do with your time. Stay busy, and hang out with people that will support your sobriety. The fastest way to fall off the wagon is to hang out with people who will pressure you into drinking or using.

(No, I don't really count weeks. I had to get the calculator out for that one! :D )

Good luck to everyone who entered the contest! I havent gotten a chance to look over the old thread to see everyones progess. Win or lose, its a great experience and so motivational. I cant wait to see who will make the top 10!

Cheers, may the best man or woman win!

You still look ripped? I couldn't take 3 weeks off cardio. That would bug me. I can still easily go out of shape cardiovascular wise and that would piss me off :)
lost alittle ripness in the abs but thats to be expected i cant stay that ripped year round. arms and chest are still about the same.

Sup guys? Miss you all ;)

" I use" the cant believe its not butter spray.

I like real butter. Unless, of course, I'm feeling particularly incredulous.....

just checking in, my strength is finally back to normal, today was the first day of cardio in three weeks!

Drawbacks of no carbs for so long? Wow.

I thought completely carb-depleting for a week was bad. Didn't take too long for me to recover - about a week. I was weak for the photo shoot. My contest carb-up wasn't enough, but I learned a lot. I felt so weak trying to pump up, and what little bit of pump I was able to achieve didn't last but a few seconds. A week later (maybe 3 days later) my muscles were full and hard.

did the govt ban hydroxycut or recalled or something

the govt bans anything people abuse and some people are stupid enough to abuse anything aand they wonder why they get ill effects

hell my own grathermother was ignorant enough to take aspirin everyday and maybe a few times a day for over 25 years and she wondered why her stomach was so messed up. all im saying is knowledge is power and some people are dumb enough to not do there research and ruin things for the rest of us!

i didnt expect to lose 56lbs i actually only expected to lose 20-30 max, especially since i started late. i'm doing good with my progress since the contest, I've gained 20lbs back but with clean carbs so i still got my abs and my strength is actually better then before the contest.

So everyone seems to be going with the greatest weight lose getting the first 2 spots (iz and graf) I think they will both be up there but I'm not 100% sure on 1 and 2 todd didnt have the most weight lose last year but he was extremely ripped... I'm still having faith that it could be a ripped guy with no more lbs to lose...

ditto, you have no idea. my friend Ryan..went from 250plus and sitting steady at 215ish which hes been able to maintain for months!! he loves jelly beans and uses food as comfort, hes going through a devorce so for him to stay focus is an unbelievable feat! my wife, she cut down from 155 to 135 within 8 weeks then lost focus, it was until 4 weeks ago she got back on track and is losing weight like crazy and is now down to 125...i meet her 9 years ago when she was 119lbs! she did the trimspa contest back in 2007 and lost 40lbs and for some odd reason wasnt picked, some girl lost 10lbs and beat her WTF..hence the class action lawsuit that followed!

thanks man...im soo blessed and happy about it. having muscletech backing you up is just an unbelievable feeling! i seriously take bodybuilding now as my second job...so im more involved then ever..if thats possible lol

haha yeah i was cutting down to do it BUT..training has been going so unbelievably well that doing this contest and junior nationals would be cutting myself short of my full potential especially post pec tear circa Sept 2008. im sitting at a very hard 190lbs..put on about 15lbs since last summer or probably 25lbs post surgery.

thank you very much! everyone has the potential to be what ever they want, it all starts with the mind...so i have no doubt some of the peeps on here will gain that sponsorship too!

Totally sucks. I have stalled out. No progress really in about 4 weeks. Think I'm going to have to get with a trainer next month and see if that helps. Can't do much of that and be able to afford it either, but I gotta change something. Anyone else having this problem?

i remember you being a big "hitt" guy for cardio i would add more long cardio, hour on the eliptical or something like that... also can cut back carbs.

I think that without the pending deadlines, like the contest finish or a competition or a photo shoot, it's hard to be focused 100%. I know I've relaxed the nutrition some (enjoying a few too many carbs). My workouts are just as intense, though, and I really think I'm seeing a little lat development.

I know, though, that I change up the workout routine every couple of months just to keep the muscles guessing--split, heavy/light, number of sets, type of exercises, large/small muscle targeting, etc.

thepackleader

Ok, you can criticize, scrutinize, or whatever :) It it pretty much the same thing I was doing during the contest.

meal 1 - 3 egg white 1 whole egg with small amount of shredded cheese. sometimes little bit of meat added

meal 2 - protein shake + natty almond butter

meal 3 - can of tuna or half can of chicken breast. with mayo and sometimes small amount of shredded cheese.

meal 4 - dinner is more of an unknown. Whatever is made for dinner here and I pick and choose what to eat. Usually stay away from any carbs for that. But there is always a protein source with low fat and some kind of veggie.

Meal 5 - protein shake

meal 6 - salad with a protein source

From time to time the meal 1 is oatmeal (old fashioned) or a slice of whole grain toast. Once a week I have a higher carb meal to bring the glycogen back up.

Training split is... Monday chest and tris, Tuesday yoga, Wednesday back and bis, Thursday yoga, Friday traps and delts, Saturday legs to the max. Sunday straight cardio. I do my HIIT sessions at about 7pm at the gym. Not doing it everyday like I was during the contest. Doing it about 4 or 5 times a week. Abs are also thrown into one of those workouts twice a week.

Pack, it looks to me like your starving yourself. I was eating more than that during the contest and you outweigh me by about 80 lbs.

I would agree. I think your body has gone into starvation / conservation mode. I reccommend 300 grams of protein, 150 grams of carbs, and maybe 40 grams of fat. That's about what I was doing during the contest, and I was still losing a little muscle along with the fat. If you weigh more than me, you may want more protein than 300 grams even.
