i really believe most players are given drugs that trainers tell them will help them but never say they are illegal. I feel for the players who aren't told exactly what they are taking and get in trouble down the road. Although it is there fault because they should know what they are taking first before they ingest it. I really do think Manny was told a lie about the drug he took. He's is slightly stupid so I'm guessing somebody took advantage of him.
They aren't 5 year olds, they're in the majors and obviously aware of the rules and should know wtf goes in their body.

athletes play this dumb card..they are not that stupid. I remember taking creatine without drinking any extra water. I cramped up the first few times and every since then I take in plenty of water when I am on it

I do agree with you but you understand that these are millionaires, most with little more than a high school education some less due to the countries they have come out of (not bashing every country)
There is a good chance and I mean an AMAZINGLY high chance that he did not know what it is, (heck we dont even know yet) How is someone suppose to know what it is, IF it was given by a physician(generally the are hired by the team) he should have known what is and is not allowed in the MLB. What the chances of someone researching it themselves, pretty slim.
Heck look at our supplements, every month it seems more are coming out that have been mislabeled, with ph etc in them.
So if this is surprising to you, I do not know what to say, it is simple juice get paid millions, heck Man Rams contract is like $25,000,000
I do not see why you think a player would not do it, basically every all star in the 90's early 2000 used them(most have already been accused), and now people are still trying to find something to give an edge.

what, a bunch of dudes I'll never meet on message boards and in newspapers will cry about it? Oh well, I'd be taking care of my family and future generations in ways that otherwise wouldn't be possible.
Minor leaguer struggling to make it? Might as well take a chance and juice. Borderline big league player trying to hang on? Do it. Mid-level guy trying to get that one fat contract that will set you up for life? I'd be juiced to the gills.
Sorry. :o

Of course most people would. Look at all the people here(forum) using steroids and ph's to gain some fat and water retention with no thoughts of competing or making any money from it. ( i used ph before, no competitions :( )

Exactly, I'm not trying to condone cheating and/or steroids, but I just think it is too easy for the media and fans to jump all over people, without really stopping to honestly assess what they might do in the same situation.
I have a hard time being mad especially at some of these guys who came from absolutely nothing and are trying to maximize really the one marketable skill they have, which is athletic ability. They probably don't have a fallback career, so they have to do what it takes to succeed.

Isn't there a fat loss program using HCG?
I heard it is the latest rage with women and that's why HCG has been harder to come by as of late.
EDIT: Just looked and I see that there is, but the protocol was created by Kevin Trudeau, who is the guy you always see selling books late at night in infomercials. People are still buying HCG up though.

It can certainly be tested for... but I'm totally unaware of how the MLB performs tests. They must test athletes for absolutely everything. I can't imagine someone just ordering a random beta hCG blood test on a hunch.

No one is over paid. If someone wanted to pay you 12 million a year for your job would you tell them no? I sure would not. Most of use are just in positions were we don't have the power to negotiate wages that high. Pro athletes just happen to be in a position where money is more evenly distributed among the workers (Players) and owners. Most jobs the workers get like less then a percentage of what to owner CEO ect. get. Most owners still make a higher profit then their highest paid player except a few small market teams.

I love terms like "overpaid" and "underemployed."
I have yet to have someone intelligently explain to me how these terms work in a free market.
The obvious answer is they don't.

agree, it is my belief that the majority of the athletes at this level use some kind of foo-foo dust to give them an advantage, this is simply learned behavior that if you don't use then you won't stack up to your competition, can't blame someone for learning how to survive, unfortunately for some the behavior they fail to learn is how to not get caught
