I find it interesting that so many people didn't like this movie. I liked it a lot. I think the problem is that people always want the same thing from a movie. They want a climax and and an ending that sort of explains everything. This movie didn't have that. It wasn't pure entertainment. It was the kind of movie that just made me think about things. Sure the ending wasn't what most people expected but I think it was the best ending that a movie like that could have.
Who else has seen it? What did you think of it?

I think David Cronenberg rarely makes anything less than excellent movies, this included.

Great movie but I though this was going to be another "I ran into another guy from middle school" thread. Sorry K, that's actually what I thought. :o

I hated this movie, the script was so full of holes.
It's been a while, but from what I remember:
He kills 1 mobster and the whole country finds out, later he kills a bunch in his front yard and there's no media?
The wife tells the Sheriff to leave them alone & drop the investigation, and he does?

Actually, my actions that night were inspired by Viggo Mortensens killer moves.

Ah, good point.. well it's conceivable. I guess if you live in a small town and have known the sheriff all of your life. He might do what you ask. Pretty unlikely but it's conceivable.
But as far as the killings, you bring up a good point... But oddly enough I didn't even think about that.

more probable than unlikely
case in point
recently here in my area, a father son dispute ended in the father shooting the adult son with a shot gun.
(The son is recovering, btw)
but there was well known local history between the 2, the son is a notorious druggy with a history of violence, the father has warned him not to come around or to bring his druggy freinds with him, which he ignored, to his regret.
so when this happened there wasn't really even an investigation.
Everyone knows the situation and putting everyone through a long court case at taxpayer expense would be the wrong thing.
In a large metro area, charges would have almost always be brought I would guess as a matter of formality.

Personally I liked this movie. I felt that whereas the story line may be far fetched the majority of the violence was actually within the realm of human capacity. It was good to see fight scenes were folks weren't flying 15 feet in the air with their legs extended completely out and then sending their opponent flying through a brick wall..... when of course they both get up.
The action was brief, violent and believable.

I liked it, but I like all Viggo's movies. Really liked Eastern Promises, and LOVED Hidalgo!!

Thing is this guy - who was just in the national media -has a shoot out & kills 3(?) big time mobsters from the east coast on his front lawn..
No other mobsters show up to retaliate, no Federal investigation, no media, just the local sheriff? That's a weak script.

Good movie, and I agree with the "life goes on" idea instead of "the end" at the end of it.

I thought he'd killed everyone else?
