We had a good hard core gym here in Dallas, called Austin Gym, but 24 hour Fitness is taken over everything out here. Now the only good gym that still is around is Powerhouse Gym, still kind of a little poser gym, or in Carrollton there is a gym called The Gym, not as hard core as Austin Gym but close.

Denison is in BFE....the only hotels will be motel 6 or something. The best things to do? Well, there really isnt much to do. You will be near Sherman and that will probably have the best nightlife if thats what you like.

I live in H-town and I workout at an older gym in Spring, on the north side of town.

It's called IronCity gym. It's privately owned and operated, really nice, and not crowed at all. Pretty big gym, cardio room, no pool.

It's right next to Klein High school, I believe the owner has some contract with the athletic dept. because this gym is a graveyard. I'm not sure how they stay in business but I've been a member there since Aug 2003 and the most I've ever seen working out at a time is 25 people.

It amazes me sometimes that I'm trying to find a work-out bud here in the desolation of Ohio and there are literally 1000's of bb'ers in Texas-all over the place. I guess my envy was showing. I will beat myself later with a cat-n-9 tails. No insult was intended to anyone. It is also real convenient to be next door to a giant pharmacy-even if it is in another country.

The really cool thing is they offer us a refund on our health insureance that equals out to 1/4 of what we pay in anually if you keep a log book of your workouts and do x amount of weight training and x amount of cardio a week.

I CO-OPed out here during college and since this company changed hands 3 years ago they've been really proactive with their employees. It's pretty nice.

Houston here too. I train at the Ballys in the Galleria (the one on Post Oak near Stewart Title). I used to go to the one in West U, but parking there sucks and the place is a dump. 24 Hour Fitness sounds real inviting, but it is hard to argue with six bucks a month!!!

I live in H-town and I workout at an older gym in Spring, on the north side of town.

It's called IronCity gym. It's privately owned and operated, really nice, and not crowed at all. Pretty big gym, cardio room, no pool.

It's right next to Klein High school, I believe the owner has some contract with the athletic dept. because this gym is a graveyard. I'm not sure how they stay in business but I've been a member there since Aug 2003 and the most I've ever seen working out at a time is 25 people.

I checked that place out once. They are very expensive....Too rich for my blood....Although there place seemed to be well kept.

I'm not a member there anymore, I joined with 24Hr again because my workout partner is a 24hr member as well. I don't like it as much as IronCity, but I've seen more gains working out with a partner than alone.

But, If IronCity was closer to where a work/live I would still be a member there. Also, when I joined IronCity I paid $80 something for startup and $36 a month. Thats a lot cheaper than 24hr...Plus they run specials all the time at IronCity, they have to compete with 24hr down the street at Kuykendahl.

I am originally from Brownsville but stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I have stopped working out for a while due to modeling here in Japan. I plan to move to Houston or Dallas sometime next year. Any good place in these two cities that have a good gym.

There are tons of chain gyms, 24hr bally's and La fitness is starting to spread. If you want hardcore gyms there are two on the east side of dallas.

Texas Gym: I used to work out there, very hardcore place with very few machines. I would see guys in there daily benching over 400 and guys with the leg press loaded as full as it could with plates. Upside, the cost. Talk to the owner Kim (a guy) and he will make you a good deal. I pay $20 a YEAR. That is not a type-o. The downside, it gets PACKED between 3pm and 9pm. So packed that you can't get a good workout in. If you are an early morning guy then it woult be fine for you.

There is also the Roughhouse gym that opened up last year. Owned by Mr. Texas Lorenzo Jones. I've never worked out there so I can't give a review but I know it is $15 a month.
