View Full Version : Thinking About Competing For First Time.

It's the Bill Grant Classic on July 18th, 2009 in Allentown, PA.

I'm thinking of competing in the Lightweight Novice Class and possibly the Men's Lightweight or Middleweight Open(I'm not sure how much I'll weigh after a cut)

I really want to use this as a learning experience for competing more in the future.

I'm only 16, but after viewing the photo gallery of past competitors, I feel like I could crack Top 5 in Lightweight Novice.(That is just my opinion, which doesn't matter to judges, I know. I'm also aware of the possibility of a much higher level of competition entering this year as oppose to years past.)

So, do you think it would be worth it to get an NPC Card and enter?

Stats: 5'6", 170lbs. Bodyfat, not sure.

I'm going to bed, but I'll check this tomorrow if there are any responses.

Thanks!

Is there a teen division?

What are your long term competitive goals?

Sadly, there is not a set Teen Division in this competition.

As of now my goals are just to compete naturally in a few shows.

May I suggest you take a look at the Mid Atlantic Show on May 9th.

There were only 2 competitors in the teen division last year

I don't think you're ready for an open. If you can spot another show in the same time period you're shooting for that has a Teen division, I'd do that. If not, try getting your feet wet in the Novice if you really want to. In all honesty, I think another off season would benefit you more.

I'd say go for it. It doesn't matter if you win, you're going to learn SO much about your body and contests in general. I just did my first show last month and it was a blast. You'll prob come in as a lightweight after cutting. Just go for it man, you look great.
