I know there is lot of thread comparing racks but I want to discuss about specific differences between these 2. I think I will be buying the commercial one. It has some advantages but is it worth the price ?
Pros
2 Bar holder at the end
10 Plate Storage post
3x3 tubing
the bench can be fixed
better racking pins ?
better safety spotters ?
warranty ?
Cons
no lats tower possible
price
I am missing something ?

There are better racks out there for the money. I think the commercial is around 1200 and you can do better for that much.

This one and the Atlantis ones are the only one I tried. I don't want to order something I didn't tried and hate the feeling of using it. Also, i'm in Canada and there is a limited nb of brands available in local stores. Not all sites ship to Canada and shipping cost are crazy too.

Can I ask if this is for a home gym? If it is I really don't see the point of a comercial rack for the home, unless you can get it much cheaper than retail. A decent mid range rack is not going to fail under home use. So all you're really paying for is a high chin bar, and the ability to do standing shoulder press inside the rack.
If it were me I'd save the exta $$ for other thing to furnish your gym with other kit.
If you're getting it for a commercial gym, then fair enough really!

What is the price differential between the Powertec and the Atlantis?

Home gymn. Commercial rack are the only ones (I think) that comes with 10 plates storage posts plus there are other advantages I listed above.

I had a quote for commercial half rack a while ago and they were about the same.

Pros
2 Bar holder at the end - so what?
10 Plate Storage post - buy a weight tree instead.
3x3 tubing - so what?
the bench can be fixed - what a PIA that would be!
better racking pins ? - no problems with the residential racking pins.
better safety spotters ?- no problems with the residential safety bars.
warranty ? - it's a metal cage. If you don't see any problems when you assemble it, then you won't be making a warranty claim anyway.
Cons
no lats tower possible - THAT SUCKS.
price - THAT REALLY SUCKS!
I am missing something ?
I think you're missing the fact that you're hooked on the "Commercial" moniker. I don't like to buy things twice so I tend to select the higher end stuff even when my modest needs do not justify paying the premium price. Keep in mind though that there are some pretty big guys on here getting by fine with residential power racks.

I have a 3x3 rack with 1 1/4 holes and it impossible to find accessories for it. You are prolly better off with 2x2 and 1 inch holes.

for the price range, you might want to check out custom racks from elitefts.
The racks are well priced for the high quality and customability you get.
I couldnt be happier with mine.

I'm with you, I prefer the commercial stuff, and I really like having the plate rack on the cage. Larger spotters are also a plus. It would be an easy choice for me between the two powertec pieces. I'd get the commercial one.
However, I was asking about the price of the Atlantis because it is really nice equipment. I have three selectorized pieces and they are made really well (some of the highest quality pieces I've seen). For the same price, I'd rather have the Atlantis (but only if the half cage is as strong as a cage). I've only seen one half cage in person that I felt compared favorably with a full cage. It was a collegiate half rack by Bodymasters. My friend has the Bodymasters half rack and it is solid. I would rather have it than the powertec.
From the pictures on Atlantis's web page their half cage looks comparable to the Bodymasters (within 15lbs in weight). The spotters look like they might be a little shorter, but it could just be the picture. If it were me, the decision would be between the Commercial Powertec and the Atlantis piece, and I'd probably lean towards the Atlantis.

Guy named "Chipdouglas" spent about 15 years on here deciding what rack he wanted, then decided on the Atlantis Half Rack last July.
Here's the final thread, but there was a lot of searching/researching going on prior to this:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=108387551&highlight=atlantis
Here is a pic of his rack:

Then.....As the Rack Turns took another strange turn when he sold it and replace it with this ST Fitness Rack:

None of this really helps you, as you're wanting a rack that has storage. But although the Atlantis is a nice half rack, probably one of the best....still a half rack. Even a guy that actually took years off his life researching and buying one decided he wanted a full cage.
I think you'd be better served with a mid-level too....but I also understand getting really cool stuff if you can, so knock yourself out. Just be sure you really want that half rack if you go that rout.
Actually...don't go that rout ;)

There is also Atlantis model C-210, a half rack with full length safeties. This is what I use everyday at my job's gymn. Still I don't think I will go with Atlantis since there are some disavantages vs Powertec.
- Plates holder are 2x3 on each side which is less convenient than 6 in a row
- No Bar Holder
- Atlantis Bench doesn't fix and is wayyy more expensive than the Powertec one
- No dips bar

Your paying for a full commercial rack, and pairing it with a powertec bench? There are WAY better benchs than that even for not much more money, sure it locks in, but thats a pretty useless and time consuming feature.
Your pretty much paying 600USD over a standard rack for bar holders and plate storage? Wish I had that money to spend on what amounts to a weight tree!
Someone mentioned EliteFTS, see if they'll ship to Canada (they should they ship to the UK!) thier racks beat the hell out of that commercial powertec in options alone (which includes 6 aside weight storage) and are just as strong.

I'm not getting Atlantis, it was just to discuss it. Right now I am getting Powertec. You are probably right about their lock in features, I never tried it so IDK if it's useful.
Just to be clear, price difference of 500$ or even 1000$ is not an issue for something that I will keep for the rest of my life and uses 3 times a week.
That said I will definitely take a look (again) at EliteFTS

That rack is a sumo rack, not a half rack. That explains why you like it :). Sumo's allow you to safely do about anything you can in a full cage.
If money's only a partial consideration and you can afford the Atlantis Sumo you pictured there......that's the one I'd get!
There are also some other manufacturers of sumos like that in the $1500 range.....Animalfan has researched them as he has a sumo like that and is on a quest to find out who made it.
Oh....how much does the Atlantis cost?

As best I can tell, Animalfan's was made by Hammer Strength. I have the same Sumo Cage and it has the Hammer Strength logo on it. I'm trying to get Hammer Strength to confirm so that I can purchase some accessories. I love the Sumo racks.

Extra bar holders are what I'm most interested in. I've kicked around the idea of making some too. I think Hammer quoted me over $100 a piece for their new ones.
I would also like to have some of those technique trays.

I have the powertec rack and I highly recommend it for a home gym. Very sturdy, use it for fairly heavy lifts of around 400 lbs. Pulley is very smooth and can handle a lot of weight. Comes with dip handles, varied grip chin/pull up handles. Also not as high as some other power racks, mines in basement.
No plate storage on cage would be my only neg. I just have a stand off to one side.

Powertec sells 2 different racks; a commercial one and a residential one. The OP has clearly stated he's looking at the commercial one which has storage pegs and no lat tower possibility. The rack you have suggested is clearly the more common residential power rack and clearly not the one he's looking at.
Hope that helps.

He is asking differences between the two, I have the residential rack and stated that its advantages. I have used both and unless your lifting huge weight, over 500lbs, why spend the extra money for the commercial rack.

There is a tiny little window of possibility you are right. I reread the op and maybe that's what he's wanting to know. He only talks about the Commercial one and then the thread immediately went down the Atlantis and "...money is almost no issue.." path. I saw nothing the whole time I've been reading this that gave me the indication he cared at all for the residential rack.
If he is comparing those two......I stand corrected and apologize.
If I'm right I'll at least admit that his post leaves open that possibility and I reacted too harshly to your post.

I'm done with this thread. Next time I will be more clear with my question :) I will post a thread in the future with all the prices and models that are still options for me. In Canada it's different, Atlantis might be cheaper than in the US and I can pick it up straight from their warehouse. Also some big US retailer doesn't ship here or have crazy shipping cost that make the deal less interesting for me.
