Oh man, thanks for the trip down memory lane!!! I met these guys back in '87 or '88. Jason Newsteads ( I can't remember if he was with Metallica yet or not, he was not there) sister went to Western Mich., along with a friend of mine, and the band was playing a small bar in "The 'Zoo", so we ended up partying with them until sometime Sunday afternoon!!! Oh man, I was hung over for two days!! Good times!! :D :D :D

Not quite classic in the sense of the music that most of us like, but take a listen to The Gourdes version of Gin and Juice. I'd post it but it is definitely not safe for work for those of you fortunate enough to have jobby jobs.

There aren't too many remakes I actually like. I always feel that no one can do the song the way the original artist or band did it.
Just a few I can think of I like are:
Heart of Gold, Neil Young, Johnny Cash
pZ2KB9LChR4
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, The Band, Joan Baez
I'm not wild about the liberties with the lyrics but the rhythm is good. I want to learn this one (among 1,000 others  )
h-d9L912MdM
Turn The Page, Bob Seger, Metallica
sMqNFAU0tOw
Crying, Roy Orbison, Don MacLean
XjMNOouIb0k
Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay, Otis Redding, Michael Bolton. Believe it or not, nice soulful sound (Michael Bolton could recite Mary Had a Little Lamb and I wouldn't complain :o).

does it affect their geomancy?
it may be the water or it might be that seeking to obtain the water puts you in certain places or in the presence of certain people or all of these things combined are necessary. It could be as simple as they all coincidentally at different points smoked a spliff in the same spot or with the same sort of person or had the same feeling pass through them at just the right moment and they didn't screw it up with negativity or all those things combined. Could be a muse is reincarnated there, possibly having nothing to do with music exactly or only tangentially but everyone who sees the muse is inspired.

They've been doing a reunion tour since late last year (almost all out of the country) and also this year (with some dates in the US - not many though), but it's coming to a close. I think they will end it in Chile, but might be doing a show out in California sometime in the next month or two. Suppose they could always announce new shows though, so keep your ear to the ground.
They are amazing live. Saw them back in the day.
As for new stuff...from your lips to God's ears...I hope so too.
You should also check out some of Patton's stuff and his many, many, many projects...some it requires ya bend an ear to listen to it, but that never discouraged me. All good stuff...Patton is absolutely amazing.

I was as well. Saw them many, many times. The last show I truly remember was a New Year's Eve show back in SF along with the RHCP, Pearl Jam and The Wierdos. Back around the Mother's Milk (RHCP) and Stay Sick (Cramps) er, and when Pearl Jam was just getting some notoriety for Ten. It was kinda funny, Anthony Kiedis, during the RHCP set remarked something along the lines of, "those who have been to our shows know that we usually have a laser-light show - lol - but our lasers got all screwed up tonight - Poison Ivy thought they were some new kinda dildo and got p*ssy juice all over them and shorted them out." Lol. But the best shows I ever saw them at were small, hole-in-the-wall gigs. Those were amazing.
Always loved "The Crusher" too...about my favorite old-school wrestler, Reg Lisowski.
