Hi all. I will be doing my first NPC competition in November and was wondering where everyone gets their suits from and how much I should be spending. Seeing this is my first show, I don't want to spend too much (thank you NPC for getting rid of the 1pc round...that saves me $), but I don't want to get on stage and look like a hack either. Any advice? Where to get them, what color looks best, what cut, etc? Any help/advice anyone could give me would be great. I've looked online but have come across several places and am just leary of buying something so important online without knowing what my measurements will be, etc.

Thanks

Yes, I looked online, I found SEVERAL places that sell and design suits, however, I wanted someone's opinion on where to go. Suits are important to figure girls and I've heard nightmares about them. Anyone with advice or a place that they've had good luck with, please let me know. Thanks

Have you looked in the http://www.divaexchange.com/ site they are some really nice USED and NEW suits there.
Great prices also..ASK??'s before buying..LIKE Measurements i would ask what the weight/height/hip and Breast cup size is for the suits that you are interested in..Also the cut of the suit !

Oh and need to ask your trainier around what weight your going to be for the show.

I know you want to economize - figure IS an expensive "hobby" - but I am respectfully going to disagree with the above poster and suggest that you get a good suit for your first competition. So much effort goes into your contest prep -diet and workout and posing - and you don't want a poor fitting suit to spoil your fun and result in a poor placement. If you aren't a seamstress, modifying a figure suit to fit isn't easy. Much better to spend the money and get a suit that makes you feel good and look great - this will show on stage!

I have purchased suits from several reputable sources. In my photo I am wearing a Lidia Conti suit (I have to say though I had a lot of problems with her). My other suit which I wore at my first show in April 2008 was made by Maggie Blanchard (MaggieFit) - it is a gorgeous suit. She was super to work with and the suit well worth the money.

Sylvia Tremblay makes beautiful suits. Berne at PassionFruitDesigns makes absolutely to-die-for suits and she has recently come out with an economical line of suits for new competitors. She is amazing!

In terms of what fit - this should be based on your bodytype and again discussion with the suitmaker is a great idea.

I suggest contacting several suitmakers and inquiring about their services. Tell them your current height and weight, hair and eye coloring and let them suggest some suit colors. They should mail you some swatches to look at and encourage you to send them a recent photo of yourself. Based on past experience I encourage you to give them a competition date a bit ahead of your actual date (at least two weeks) to ensure that you get your suits on time and that you have ample time to have them tweaked if they don't fit right. By the way they should include this in their service but get everything in writing.

Thank you!!! I was looking at Lidia's site the other day, she has some nice stuff BUT I don't want problems.. What kind of issues did you have with her suits? I'll look at the others as well. I was thinking of spending about $400, I just can't do the $1199 suits for my first show, that wouldn't be right. $350-400 depending on stones etc, I think is a fair amt to want to spend, right?? Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it very much!
