Top 10
1)Kai Greene
- I got Kai Greene placing first in this because why not? Kai Greene is a showman in this sport and has one of the best posing routines I have seen in a while. This dude got a killer, great body. Let me just say his hams, glutes, and quads are all freaky huge and peeled to the bone. His calves are slightly small, but that is not going to deter him. It is Kai Greene's year and if he brings size as well as straited muscle this Arnold Classic is over. Size+Symmetry= Arnold which correlates to Kai Greene
2)Toney Freeman
-Toney X-man Freeman is ready for the big stage once again. He proved by placing 5th at the Olympia he was ready to return to the spotlight of the mecca of bodybuilding. I expect him to get second and maybe even first. Freeman brings a lot of good things to the table. His body is easy on the eye for judges, his height is packed with quality mass, and his legs are shredded. He has the mass, but lets see if he can add more detail to his already impressive body.
3)Victor Martinez
-Victor Martinez is back in bodybuilding world and I can say I happy to have him back. After facing an injury that sidelined him for months, Martinez is ready to etch himself in the bodybuilding books. He is ready and recovered, but will his body be back to his previous excellent shape in 2007? This is the question that many will be asking. He is one the best, but can he be better than the X-man and Massive Kai?
4)Branch Warren
-Mr.Warren finished 4th last year at the Arnold and I see him this year finishing at the same place. Warren got great size and every time you see him a new vein seems to rip from his body in every pose. It is that freaky. He can compete on the big stage, but it just seems to me that he looks on weird on stage in that its not easy on the eye. Bodybuilding is not just about mass or symmetry, but also how the muscle looks on the body. Sadly, Branch Warren can't really change how he look to a point. Still, he has a great physique in my opinion, but I don't see the judges placing him higher than this.
5)Silvio Samuel
-Silvio Samuel placed first in the Ironman this year which was no surprise. I know he is quite happy about that, but he has to compete with the bigger boys in this contest. He has size, but it won't match the size of these competitors. He just needs more size to compete with these guys. His conditioning is better than anybody on the got darn planet. If Silvio can tinker with his body and add size to that conditioned body, he may be the deadliest bodybuilder in the Universe.
6)Moe Elmoussawi
-Moe knows that he is going to have a hard time in the Arnold Classic, but that won't get him down. I am enjoyed the talking between Silvio Samuel and before the Ironman. It was quite entertaining and will surely continue to be a rivalry. Moe is big and ripped. I was amazed at how he looked on the stage at the Ironman. People may think in 2008 his good fortunes were a fluke, but he out this year to prove the naysayers wrong.
7)Dennis James
-James finished 8th at the Mr. Olympia last year in a new state. Mr. Dennis James was not as massive as we are use to seeing, but his body was visually a lot better than before. James is a muscular dude, but this new frame looks great on him. He even said it himself that this is his best year. ""My prep has been going great," he says. "I would say that this is the best prep than I've done so far. Even better than '03." If he can be that ready, he may finish higher.
*(source:http://www.flexonline.com/news/662)
8)Ronny Rockel
-I call Rockel Mr. Pleasing because his body is truly a work of art on the stage when posing. He looked great at this year's Ironman with a third place finish and his conditioning always put his name in the running for winning any contest. Rockel is always under the bodybuilding radar and it sad. He should be receiving more media coverage and at the Arnold I feel he will finally get the just dessert.
9)Gustavo Badell
-Gustavo Freak'n Rican Badell is one of my favorite bodybuilders. His charisma and outspoken personality make him noticeable everywhere he goes. Badell has been having problems with his waist for the longest time. He looked decent at the 2008 Olympia due to the fact his waist got smaller. I just want to see that mass size+ small waist+huge legs which would equal a higher than ninth place finish. Badell can do it, so don't count the Freak'n Rican out. His fire on the stage is great to look up to.
10)Ahmaid Haidar
-Haidar is the Abs king of the sport. His abs are etched into bodybuilding history. His abs help to his physique by leaps and bounds as well as his great muscle mass. He has the mass, but he needs to come into contest more detail and conditioned to the bone.
Be on the Lookout: For Johnnie "TrapStar" Jackson. I gave him this nickname cause he got the best traps. He may sneak into the mix and that would be a good thing for the "World's Strongest Bodybuilder".
This will be an exciting contest ladies and gents. If you have the funds, I suggest you go. There will be excitement and controversy as well as Arnold. The Arnold is one of the premier bodybuilding events and some day in the future I will have to go.

it takes 2-4 weeks at a time to announce them. They have been doing a good time recently to try to speed up the time it takes to announce winners.

This year at the Arnold Classic could prove to be very interesting. There are several bodybuilders that could surprise a few people by moving up beyond expectations. The top few spots are a given, but the rest of the field is wide open. Here are my predictions for the top 10 at the Arnold Classic:
1) Victor Martinez
Even though Victor has been out of the mix for a while due to injury, he still has the size and has been staying lean in the off-season. This man has won the Arnold before and knows how to come in to a competition in his best shape. You have to remember that before his injury, Victor should have been crowned Mr. Olympia in 2007 but was ripped off. There is no way that Jay Cutler should have won that show. Basically, this means that Victor was the top bodybuilder in the world at that point, and he is my pick to win the Arnold.
2) Kai Greene
Personally, I am not a big fan of Kai Greene after he was featured in a porn film. However, he knows how to bring it. Last year, he came into the Arnold with the total package. He had size, symmetry, and muscle separation. I just don't think he has enough to topple Martinez. Martinez has him beat from the back, which almost always serves as a deciding factor in major competitions. We shall see though. It will be close.
3) Toney Freeman
The X-man is back again this year. The only thing standing in this man's way is his biceps. When he hits a front double biceps pose, his biceps look elongated, and they kill his overall look. They don't ball up enough to give him a powerful look when he hits that pose. If that wasn't a factor, Toney would be putting some pressure on Victor and Kai for the top spot.
4) Ronnie Rockel
I think Ronnie is going to surprise a lot of people this year. He looked great at the Ironman. Ronnie manages to come into competitions in very great condition and could very easily take the 4th spot.
5) Silvio Samuel
After coming off a big win at the Ironman, Silvio has to be excited for this event. He has great muscle separation and looks very good from the side and the front. However, he needs to add a little more mass to back, and I think that it could be the reason why he gets upset by Ronnie Rockel. He is still a very solid competitor and should place well at the Arnold.
6) Branch Warren
Branch is a fun guy to watch and has incredible size and strength. He has had two main problems that have haunted him over the lifespan of his career. The first has been his conditioning. He looked better than he has ever looked last year at the Arnold, but it still is not enough to propel him to the top. If he keeps improving his conditioning, then he could very well put pressure on the top competitors in the Arnold. His other problem is that he is too big. He loses a lot of muscle separation because there is simply too much muscle. He needs to find a way to try to distinguish certain muscle groups.
His overall strength is his vascularity. No one can touch him in the most muscular. When he hits that pose, a cobweb of veins explodes from is chest and it looks downright sick.
7) Gustavo Badell
Gustavo is a good guy and very likeable. The "freakin rican" trains with international fitness expert Milos Sarcev, who has trained a vast quantity of successful professional bodybuilders, which includes Dennis Wolf, a favorite for next year's Olympia.
Gustavo has an incredible upper body, but he has one problem. His body is long and his quads never appear to be very big on stage. This creates a long, lean look instead of a powerful, muscular look. Gustavo has one of the best upper bodies in this competition, but from the front, the lower part of his quads look small, which kills his chances everytime he walks on stage. It could be the way he poses, or it could just be that he hasn't devoted enough energy to training this body part. He will be in the top 10 overall. You can at least count on that.
8) Sergey Shelestov
This guy is a wild card in this competition. The former captain in the Russian Army has the size to hold his own against the likes of massive bodybuilders like Jay Cutler. It will really come down to his level of conditioning. If he comes in looking ripped and striated, don't be surprised if he lands in the top 5. He could even land in the top 3. We will see what happens. It will be interesting to watch. This guy is massive.
9) Johnnie Jackson
Ahh, the self-proclaimed "strongest bodybuilder in the world". I doubt that the claim is true. This whole claim started in the days of Ronnie Coleman, which should raise warning signs right away. Branch Warren could also contend for that title with a 700 lb squat. Johnnie Jackson's problem is that he focuses too much on powerlifting and not enough on bodybuilding. He has a lot of size, but has too many holes in his physique. Everyone will be surprised if he moves any higher than 9th.
10) Moe Elmoussawi
Overall, Moe is not going to rattle any cages. He will glide in nicely at 10th. He might move up a few spots, but nothing extreme. He is a good bodybuilder, and has done fairly well in recent years.
This is my top ten for the Arnold Classic. This year will be very fun to watch with the return of Victor Martinez, and the potential for low-publicity bodybuilders to make a name for themselves. There will be battles all the way down the line for the top 10 spots, and I have a feeling that there could be several huge upsets at this competition. It is definately worth watching.

TOPIC: Who Will Win The 2009 Arnold Classic?
Give your opinion on who will be in the top 10 and give full details for why you believe it will go down that way.
There is always more anticipation starting from 10th, so IS THE TOP 10 at the 2009 annual Arnold Sqatsnegro classic, BIG UP the winner brah.
In 10th: Johnnie Jackson
With beaitful facial features, this man definetly stands out in any male-dominated crowd. He has a strong jawline, and facial construction, that would make any man with testosterone excited... but johnnie lacks the overall alpha aura that have made others like ronnie and jay suceed in the past.
johnie scores a rating for 9/10 for looks, but 3/10 for presentation.
9th: branch warren
This man is SCARY! And thats what makes him score 9th. His big head, and jaw, will no doubt improve his score, but he lacks in every other area.
Unfortunatly he lacks presence of skin and hair.
branch gets a 1/10 for looks and 2/10 for presentation.
8th: Dennis James
Dennis is a man mountain. His strengths are his smile, and eyes. The reason i put dennis 8th instead of 3-4th is his total lack of experience in such a big show like the arnold, and also his ears are too small.
The only reason Dennis is of German descent is because he lives there.
7th: Kai Greene.
Although Kai has been on a grapefruit diet, he lacks the zest of such a bitter component, meaning he is massivly overated in the bodybuilding community. Many people are predicting a big year, but Kai simply lacks the eye development and his nose is too flat.
I know many guys who have seen 'the fruiterer' and said, "wow he's so good", but pictures and videos mean little on stage.
Kai rates 1/10 for eyes/hair and cheeks, but 9/10 for video presentation.
6th: Gustavo Badell
Gustavo misses out on the top 5, simply because he is too arrogant.
He is so good looking, it isnt funny. What will let him down? I think, other than big-headedness, is his nose. He's strengths include his olive skin which tans easily, and thick Latin hair, but will this enough to crack the top 5?
Gustavo rates 11/10 for looks, but -11 for presentation.
5th: Marcus Haley
Marcus is fairly unknown in the world of bodybuilding. Although this man is quiet, he does have an aura of sexuality, which will help him with the judges votes. His main weakness is his overall head.
marcus scores for 2/10 for looks, and 10/10 for presentation
4th Victor Martinez
This mans strengths are his sexy name, his smile, and his symatrical head, and that is why he will place so high. He does his name, Victor Lawnmowers, justice. On stage Victor will show you why is the best looking man on the circuit.
Vic gets 10/10 for looks and 10/10 for presentation.
3th: Silvio Sammuel
WIth the appearance of a jungle monkey, the judges will be as impressed as usual. Silvio has a wide head, characterised by a nice smile and high cheekbones.
I know so many men who wouldnt think twice about spending a night with Silvio, and on the the night of the Anold Cup, he will show you why.
This attractive negro scores highly in every area, with 9/10 for presentation, and 9.5/10 for looks
2nd: Tony Freeman
Tony has big lively eyes, strong erect neck, grainy bones and a symatrical head, which is so important for a bald headed competitor. I beleive it is these qualities that make him the greatest.
Overall, Tony is a strong man, with a great personality. He scores a 10/10 for looks and a 10/10 for presentation. Unfortunately, someone had to be 2nd, and tonight it will be Tony.
1st: Lee Priest
And the winner of the innaugrial Swortnegro cup ..the tactful manlet, Lee Priest. This underdeveloped, but ever affectionate Aryan will score a big win on his comeback.
Lee is always reinventing his character, with evolving hair styles, more colorful tattoos and cheap cars. This jumping kanagroos main strength are his grainy nipples, and clean belly-button.
At the Arnold, Lee priest will score 10/10 for looks, 9.75/10 for skin/hair and nails, and 10/10 for presentation, making him the highest scoring bodybuilder of the night.
Bonus Question: Have you ever attended the Arnold Classic and Expo? If so, what did you think of it and how was your experience? Was it what you thought it would be? How could it be made better?
NO

Top 10 ASC 2009
1) Victor Martinez
As the only one in the lineup to ever win the Arnold Classic before, the judges will be looking at him instantly as a front runner. As everyone knows, he had a terrible injury that made him sit out the Arnold 08 and the Olympia 08. His reasoning for sitting out the Olympia was not because he was still injured, but because he wanted to come in BETTER than ever before. At this show, he will do just that. His thickness and shoulder to waist ratio is superior to most the other pros in the lineup, and because his upper body suffered no injuries, it should be more massive than ever. Victor will be the clear cut winner, and then there will be everyone else.
2) Toney Freeman
He had a good winning streak going until the 07 Olympia, and then his placings just fell off. His nutritionist and trainers changed during this period, but once he went back to Dave Palumbo, Toney Freeman returned to his infamous peeled conditioning in time for the spring shows, which he won two of, and the 08 Olympia where he placed fifth. Since no one who beat him at his last show (The 08 Olympia) is in the lineup, he has a very good chance to place better than he has in the past since his improvements have yet to cease.
3) Kai Greene
The last time Kai was at the Arnold, he placed third and he came in bigger than ever, but lost some of the conditioning that won him his first pro show, the Shawn Ray Classic. It was this loss of conditioning that cost him the higher placing, and rumor has it, he is coming in heavier than ever, which would lead one to believe, his conditioning may still be off point. With incredible leg development that actually overpowers his upper body, it will be hard for him to beat Victor or Toney who both are better proportioned than him and usually come in with better conditioning as well.
4) Branch Warren
The “People’s Champ” Branch Warren will come in with more muscle on at his height than any other competitor, he will win the most muscular award for the third time, and yet sadly, he won’t have a chance to win the show. This is an unfortunate story for Branch, but his physique does not have the aesthetics that are required for an Arnold Classic Champ to have. At all the smaller shows, he does very well, but when he shows up at the two biggest shows, he is never rewarded (with the exception of the 06 Arnold where he placed second). His recent tricep injury also cost him time to improve his upper body which needed to be brought up to match his enormous legs. The chance of him making those improvements in the little offseason he had is slight.
5) Silvio Samuel
If there is one competitor guaranteed to come in with spot on conditioning, it is Silvio Samuel. Silvio is so consistent with his shape and conditioning that his placing truly depends on the other competitors being in shape or not. If any of the competitors listed above show up out of shape, Silvio will climb the ranks. His greatest weaknesses are his back width and his height, which will be clearly exposed when standing next to Victor, Toney, or Kai. He consistently places fifth to seventh at the big shows, so this will most likely be the case once again.
6) Dennis James
It has been said time and time again that in the gym, Dennis James is Mr. Olympia. But for some reason he has a problem getting his size and conditioning timed perfect on game day. In the past, Dennis has come in with more muscle than anyone else on stage, but lately he has been bringing in a more streamlined physique with better condition, and he has been rewarded for it. Last spring, he placed second at two pro shows, closely behind Toney Freeman and at the most recent Olympia, he placed eighth. The last time he beat anyone listed above was in May 2007 at the New York Pro, so for him to place higher than top six is unlikely.
7) Moe Elmoussawi
A little over a year ago, bodybuilding fans began speaking about the unheard of Moe Elmoussawi. Placing third at the Ironman, getting a special invite to the Arnold Classic, then placing ninth at the Mr. Olympia in 08, Moe’s life on the bodybuilding stage has been fast and furious. At this year’s Ironman, he placed second, and had packed on much muscle since the Olympia, but at the cost of conditioning. However, he stated that the Ironman was just the warm up for the Arnold Classic and that his conditioning will be on point with his added muscle, making for a dangerous combination. His eleventh place last year will surely be eclipsed by what he does at this year’s Arnold Classic.
8) Gustavo Badell
Having placed as high as third at the Mr. Olympia contest twice, there is no one in the lineup Gustavo has not beaten before. However, once Gustavo started playing the size game, he gave up his lines and proportions and his placings have steadily declined since then. With many other issues to deal with outside of bodybuilding, he seems to have lost his focus and drive which got him his outstanding conditioning and package of the past. While the Gustavo of 2005 may not be gone forever, the new baby that caused him to sit out the 09 Ironman will also be preventing him from giving his best. Placing eighth in this stacked lineup would be a victory for him.
9) Johnny Jackson
As the strongest IFBB pro still competing, Johnny Jackson always comes in with super dense and thick muscularity, but not always with the crisp conditioning and dryness. This is especially the case for the winter shows, because Johnny ends up performing a lot better in the spring and summer shows as they approach the Mr. O competition. In addition, if his tenth place finish only six weeks prior at the Ironman is any indication, Johnny will definitely not be a front runner at this show.
10) Ronnie Rockel
Proportionally, Ronnie Rockel has one of the nicest physiques of today, and as Lonnie Teper always says, he is currently the most underrated bodybuilder. This German bodybuilder just doesn’t seem to get rewarded much in the big shows even though he comes in pretty consistent on the conditioning and shape. His best placing at the Arnold was in 2007 when he came in eighth, but looking at the poor lineup from 07, the competition for 09 will be too much for Ronnie to repeat that placing.
Bonus Question: I have not personally been to the Arnold Classic or Expo, but I have heard many experiences about it. While the wait to get inside is brutal due to the long line and freezing temperatures, once you are inside, it is a heaven for anyone who has an interest in nutrition, supplements, or just fitness in general. Every pro is stationed at their sponsor’s booth, so if you have the patience, you can meet just about everyone in the show, in addition to others who may also be in attendance. The free samples and giveaways are more than you can carry, and there is always some kind of entertainment going on. The expo has never gotten smaller than the year prior, and don’t expect this to change anytime soon.

2009 Arnold Classic Men results
So here is a tragedy about bodybuilding, as much as this is a visual sport, once you get to the pro's it's also about whom ever gets the most hype coming into a show. This is most evident by the Mr. Olympia title and how you can win it many times over even if you don?t come in better then the guy next to you. I mean look at the beginning of this questions post ?Victor is back in the mix!...? With that in mind I hope you know who I think has won this show before it has even happened (as long as conditioning isn?t too large of a question the day of the show)?..
1) Victor Martinez:
Having been a previous champion of this show and with his overall size and the publicity that he as been receiving as of late, I think that it will be very hard for anyone to top him. Arguably the best upper body I the business, with huge lats, crazy arms and thick chest. His legs in my opinion could be more and with that knee injury could come into question. Coming off of his knee injury with about a year off I really think that he will have his conditioning down to a T. With good conditioning and his size and great symmetry, it will be a tough package to beat.
2) Kai Greene:
I will be honest and say that I really like this guy. He has a great back story, and man does that guy have some freaky legs. In my opinion, there the best in the business. As all reports have it, he has gained some considerable muscle mass again and with this being his first show in some time now, I would expect him to be able to come in super conditioned. I really think that he can push on victor for the win, but might not have the look for a ?big? show champion yet. I would like to see him work on some of his ab poses, as I think he covers them up a little too much.
3) Toney Freeman:
When he is on he has such a great look, one of the most aesthetically pleasing looking guys out there. What I like to look for in Bodybuilders is that ?Super Hero? look, in that they could put on a spandex suit and cape and you would think that he was straight out of the pages of a comic book. I do know that historically conditioning is his weak point, and he only achieves this hero look when he is completely on like he was at this past Olympia. With that being said, if he is on he will be top three, but it will take Kai and Victor being off for him to ascend to the top spot.
4) Silvio Samuel:
WOW is all that I can say when I see this man!!! How does he keep up that conditioning? I think that this is one of the unfortunate people who get overlooked at shows just because of his size. The only pose that I think that size really matters for him is in the front lat spread. And that is where he slips in the placing, 1 out of the 10 mandatories. I will grant that he does not weigh 260 lbs, but everything fits in proportion and looks great. With that though, if he was to bring up his rhomboids and fill in that upper lat for the front spread, I think that he could become the new ?giant killer?.
5) Branch Warren:
It pains me to say it, but Branch will be guy who rounds up the top 5. There is just something about him that just doesn?t do it for me. The more I read stuff about him and look at his pictures, the less I like his physique. On his side though, he has some freaky dense muscles, and great conditioning. When you think grainy look, he is the absolute perfect example. However, when he hits his front and rear bi shots, it just seems odd looking to me. Just not as pleasing on the eye as some are. From what I said about Kai might not having the ?look? of a big show winner yet, Branch doesn?t seem to have the attitude or mental outlook to be a big show winner.
6) Moe Elmoussawi:
Had to look at some pictures for the last few and probably the best of the bottom half of the top ten will be Moe. He has the potential to beat out Branch in my opinion, but only if he can fix his conditioning that was off for the Iron Man. He holds some great size on his frame and has some great legs, but what he also has is water under the skin for shows. If he can get that under control then he can take the 5th spot, but most likely not any higher then that.
7) Dennis James:
Coming in the seventh spot will be Dennis; he has some really wide lats accompanied by a pretty good chest. The one thing that throws me off when looking at his physique is his abs. They seem to be distorted in shape, and when he hits his poses, at least in pictures, he seems to forget to keep them tight.
8) Ronny Rockel:
When looking at Mr. Rockel, I notice that he seems very symmetrical. All the muscles on his body seem to mesh well together. However, the other thing that I notice about Ronny is that he does not have really deep cuts. His tri?s are a good example, they have great size but there isn?t much of a horse shoe shape in there. Not sure if this is conditioning or not, but definitely something that needs to be addressed if he wants to move up the ranks.
9) Gustavo Badell:
For a big guy that holds some mass, I don?t get how his lats seem to look so small. I can?t decide if its an illusion from his expanded waist line or if they have begun to shrink. If he wants to be competitive he needs to hold all the mass that he has, but loose the excess inches he holds in his waist to try and get that v-taper.
10) Johnnie Jackson:
This guy packs on some muscle and strength. Side chest is so thick, but it?s so smooth as well. He has a lot of muscle but he doesn?t have the ability to come in conditioned yet. All the pictures that I see him in seem like they could have been taken a couple weeks to a month before a show. Not sure if he has what it takes to be a tier 1 bodybuilder at this point. I hope he proves me wrong because he does hold some crazy muscle.
*Bonus Question:
I have never been able to attend the Arnold, but was planning on doing so this year. Decided not to because my fianc? and I could not justify spending about $1000 dollars for 2 days worth of seeing the show. Granted it is cheap to go to the expo, but to be able to see a finals event or any of the men?s competitions your looking at spending $50 dollars a person per event. Wish we could make it, but the show seems to be a little out of our price range for a weekend getaway.

Victor is back in the mix! This year's Arnold Classic is not short on talent and one of many shows during the year to qualify for the Olympia. Next to the Olympia this is easily one of the biggest shows of the year and never disappoints.
Yes, it's that time of the year again, you can almost smell it in the air - the aroma of iron and sweat can mean only one thing: the Arnold Classic! The amount of muscle about to converge on one room is mind-blowing to say the least, and the competition will be fierce. While everyone is talking about Victor Martinez's epic return and how that will shape this year's show, there is a full slate of bodybuilders that are ready to prove they are just as worthy of the attention.
Give your opinion on who will be in the top 10 and give full details for why you believe it will go down that way.
1. Victor Martinez
After everything that Martinez has been through since his patella tendon injury, I see the Arnold Classic as another amazing chapter in his story. Unable to do cardio after surgery, Martinez put himself through two-hour rehab sessions on top of his intense workouts in order to get in shape to dominate the Olympia Showdown. Unfortunately, he ran out of time...but that just stoked his inner fire more, and I think we will see an incredibly shredded competitor ready to rock the stage at the Arnold. Martinez has been training like an animal for months, and his unstoppable passion will surely be revealed in his ripped physique. After seeing Martinez's Countdown To The Arnold Classic (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/2009_road_to_arnold_victor_martinez.htm) videos, I'm sure the Dominican Dominator will prove that he is truly a force to be reckoned with.
2. Kai Greene
Last May, Greene took the IFBB New York Pro Bodybuilding competition by storm, and he has kept that momentum up since, training hard to become even thicker. In the past, Greene has turned heads with the striations all over his body as well as his charisma, and the 2009 Arnold Classic shouldn't be any different. While Greene was a relative unknown just a few years ago, he's made quite an impression since with his bulging biceps and tree-trunk thighs. I've seen the man's training videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TRQVJUA05w) and it's clear that he means business; after all, Greene has been in the competition mindset since 7th grade, and I believe his time has come.
3. Branch Warren
Ah, Quadrasaurus. It seems as though a lot of people aren't expecting much out of Warren, and I think he may be using that to his advantage. Expect to see a veritable beast with a load of motivation when the Arnold rolls around. The fact that Warren owns a gym gives him an edge in that he always has access to weights and the training insight of others. He always hits the stage with mammoth mass, but has a tendency to fall short. Warren hasn't had a first place finish in a major show since the 2007 IFBB New York Pro contest, so you can bet he's hungry for another one. However, his performances at the Arnold have been a bit disappointing, with a 7th place finish in 2007 and a 4th last year; I don't think he has enough to take home first but I do see him improving up to 3rd.
4. Toney Freeman
Just like the rest of the body building elite, Freeman is a monster. His torso just seems to explode out of his waistline, and his quads seem to go on for miles. When I look at the pictures from the 2008 Olympia, it boggles my mind that the judges only awarded him 5th. However, some guys just aren't destined to take home the gold, and I'm afraid Freeman may be one of them. In no way am I taking away from the man's physique - it is worthy of plenty of praise. Unfortunately, when Freeman takes the stage, his hugeness comes across, but he doesn't seem to be able to reach the level of shred that separates champions from the rest of the field. That said, he will be impressive and it won't go completely unnoticed.
5. Silvio Samuel
Samuel dazzled the crowd as well as the judges at the Iron Man Pro earlier this year and you can bet he's going to have his game face on and a body to match for the Arnold. Samuel has impressive symmetry and hits the stage quite shredded, but I don't see him replicating the success he attained at the Iron Man Pro. Simply put, the competition here is a different breed of animal - a bigger one. Samuel is a very hard worker and makes every moment count in the gym, but there is only so much size one can add to one's frame. The fact that he has packed more than 220 lbs onto his 5 feet and 7 inch figure is quite the achievement, but I don't see room for much more, and I think more is what will be needed to conquer the Arnold.
6. Dennis James
Dennis James is one of my favorite pros because in addition to his passion for body building, the heart of an athlete burns in his chest; if he weren't a pro in this sport, he might be one in soccer. It's clear, though, that James is focused on his physique, as his pictures always reveal an astonishing amount of veins visible on top of his mountain-like mass. I've researched some of his splits and it's no mystery why he looks like a beast. The thing that puzzles me is why judges never seem to appreciate it. James hasn't taken home first place in a major competition since the 2001 IFBB Grand Prix Hungary, and I don't see him repeating that success here. Still, expect a good showing and a respectable finish.
7. Ahmad Haidar
Like Silvio Samuel, Haidar hasn't shown the necessary mass in the past to overtake some of the top names. Coming in at 220lbs, Haidar has an impressive amount of muscle for his height, but it won't stand up to all of the competition. In his defense, thogh, what Haidar lacks in size he makes up for in shred - the man always hits the stage looking like a walking anatomy chart. Afterall, he's not called Abzilla for nothing. Haidar put on a good show at the Iron Man Pro and Fitness Expo in January, but the physique he showed there isn't going to be enough to propel him to the top at the Arnold, and there's just not enough time to make the necessary changes.
8. Ronny Rockel
They don't call Rockel "The Rock" for no reason - his entire torso is basically one long taper, from his broad shoulders to his very tiny waist. He packs a ton of muscle onto his frame and is obviously dedicated to the sport. However, Rockel hasn't impressed judges very much in the past, probably due to his surprisingly poor conditioning - as a smaller contestant (5'6"), more is expected out of him than he has shown in the past. Though Rockel did have a strong showing with his third place finish at the 2009 Iron Man Pro, the group he will be facing here is a more accomplished and polished group, so Rockel will have a difficult task ahead of him.
9. Gustavo Badell
Considering the build he currently boasts, it's hard to believe Badell was told he was too skinny to be successful at boxing. But that was during his teenage years, and he hasn't looked back since. Badell has a very impressive figure, great vascularity and near-impeccable symmetry. From 2003-2006, Badell had great success and was turning heads on every stage he touched. Unfortunately, Badell has been in a slump lately, including a disappointing 10th place finish at the 2008 Olympia. He can expect a better finish if he brings his trademark flair and personality as well as his physique, but the total package hasn't been working for him lately, so I don't see anything stunning coming from Badell this time around.
10. Moe Elmoussawi
Rounding out the top ten will be Moe Elmoussawi. Obviously, he came to play at the Iron Man Pro, placing second behind a very impressive Silvio Samuel. Elmoussawi has some great attributes, including a nice, wide back, huge shoulders and an intimidating chest. He clearly has the drive to compete, but the field at the Arnold will be much more imposing than what he faced last time around. Even though Elmoussawi is disciplined in his training and has a lot of knowledge about diet, I think his inexperience will prove to be a liability here. He may surprise everyone though, that is the beauty of The Arnold.
WILDCARD
If I had to pick one competitor from the bottom five that I could see breaking into the top five, I would have to say it'd be Gustavo Badell. Even though the Freakin' Rican has not found success in a while, it would be foolish to completely count him out. It can't be forgotten that Badell has freakish genetics and won his first bodybuilding championship at 19 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustavo_Badell#Background). I think if he comes with the thickness, poise and vascularity he showed just a few years ago, the hard work will not go unnoticed and he may be able to crack the top five. Still, the odds seem stacked against him due to his recent performances and his fellow competitors.
Bonus Question: Have you ever attended the Arnold Classic and Expo? If so, what did you think of it and how was your experience? Was it what you thought it would be? How could it be made better?
Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to attend the Arnold Classic and Expo in the past, and this year will be no different. However, I'm still getting very excited about it; I know a few people from the forums who are planning to attend and I've been spending so much time on the Arnold Classic website that it's starting appear in my dreams. It seems like a great event in which people from every corner of the body building world - men, women, and children - come together and celebrate each other as well as the sport's elite competitors.
It's great that the event is centrally located and is relatively inexpensive - this is key to getting exposure. I also love to see that there will be scholarships awarded; education is often given a backseat where sports are concerned, but this is a great way to let people know that fortifying the mind is just as important as developing the body.
The only "improvement" I can think of is one that really applies to the whole sport generally. I find it sad that body building is still so much of a marginalized sport. It's not given the respect it deserves, and society at large doesn't give it the acceptance and enthusiasm that other sports receive. Personally, I'd rather see the effort of a group of individuals who push their bodies to the limit in the gym and spend hours contemplating nutrition receive some time in the spotlight than say, a reality television show or a golf tournament. More media coverage would be great, and a concentrated public relations campaign to dispel the myth of the "musclehead" would be an improvement as well, although the scholarships awarded at the Arnold are a solid step in this direction.

Who Will Win The 2009 Arnold Classic?
First of all, let me list down the guys who i think will make it to the top ten this year at the Arnold Classic. The list is as follows (in alphabetical order).
1.Branch Warren
2. Dennis James
3. Gustavo Badell
4. Johnnie Jackson
5. Kai Greene
6. Moe Elmoussawi
7. Ronny Rockel
8. Silvio Samuel
9. Toney Freeman
10. Victor Martinez
Now, here are my predictions on how the placings will be among the top ten. I have also included stats which give a rough estimate of what the contestants may bring to the show. The stats may vary from what is stated here, but it helps give a fair idea ahead of the competition. Here goes.
Number One - Victor Martinez
He has all the stuff that a world champ needs to have - a balance of size, definition, conditioning and confidence. He is just coming out of injury and will be raring to go. On his day, he can win anywhere. Unless he defeats himself by not showing up in his top form. He has already showed that he could have easily had a Mr. Olympia to his credit. He has the quality and class to lift the gold at the Arnold?s. Victor in my view, will win the 2009 Arnold Classic.
STATS:
255 Lbs
5 Feet 9 inches
Number Two - Toney Freeman
He definitely will be the biggest guy on stage. He usually comes in with great conditioing. Size is not a problem for this guy. With his well chiselled body, he is a certain contender for the top two spots. He put on a good show at the 2008 Mr. Olympia too. This guy is really on the rise. Serious stuff in the form of Tony Freeman is going to hit the Arnold Classic this year. Having that height is a big advantage which many people seem to overlook. With his excellent frame from shoulder to feet, he is going to take second spot in my view.
STATS:
285 Lbs
6 Feet 2 inches
Number Three - Kai Greene
He is undoubtedly the best poser in bodybuilding. He moves from pose to pose with the grace and elegance of a ballet dancer. This is the stuff that enthralls audiences - a guy with a good body and awesome posing routine can make audiences stand up to applaud. With the overall good physique he has got, he stands a chance to snatch big points largely due to his posing. He seems to be making big strides with rapid improvements to the other forms of his game though. He will end up in third place according to me.
STATS:
245 Lbs
5 Feet 8 inches
Number Four - Silvio Samuel
He is the 2009 iron man winner and with good reason. He put on a good posing show and came in with tip top conditioning with big and well rounded muscles. He has good aesthetics and symmetry too. This guy is capable of closing the door on some other big names in the world of body building for sure. Fourth spot for Silvio according to me.
STATS:
225 Lbs
5 Feet 7 inches
Number Five - Branch Warren
He has an extremely grainy body with an excess of muscularity. Is there sand under this guys skin ? There definitely is a lot of muscle on a short and small frame. His conditioning is great. However, he lacks aesthetics and symmetry. He looks sort of blocky on stage. Freakish, but not appealing to the eye. But keep an eye on this guy - he is a serious contender. Fifth spot to Branch is my prediction.
STATS:
250 Lbs
5 Feet 7 inches
Number Six - Ronny Rockel
He has to hit his peak at the right time. He has had problems with that in the past. If he does come into the contest in his best form, he is a good contender to end up in the top six. There are several guys who look terriffic from the front, but lack a quality back or legs. This guy needs to put a little work into his back and overall conditioning and BOOM ! He is probably going to take sixth spot according to me.
STATS:
230 Lbs
5 Feet 8 inches
Number Seven - Moe Elmoussawi
He is definitely is capable of bringing top notch material on stage. This guy shows the promise of placing in the top six of any competition he enters. All he needs to do is hit his conditioning right and he will be a major force to contend with. My guess is that he is probably going to come in a little bigger and with more condition. This is in my view, the right way to go for him. He has good muscle mass, definition and structure. With proper attention to conditioning, we could see him ending up in top positions in most competitions. Moe is going to take eighth place. I say this, because I am banking on Ronny Rockel to hit his form just right and push Moe down to seven.
STATS:
240 Lbs
5 Feet 9 inches
Number Eight - Johnnie Jackson
This guy ia all about thickness - especially upper body thickness. He has thick, full and round muscles. At the moment though, I feel that his lower body is being overshadowed by his terriffic upper body. We all know that legs play a vital role in the overall points system of bodybuilding. With a little bit more detailing of the lower body, he could make serious gains on stage. He will probably edge out Gustavo Badell to take eightth spot.
STATS:
255 Lbs
5 Feet 8 inches
Number Nine - Dennis James
He tried coming on stage several times with a massive size, but this made him look soft and puffy, with a horrible midsection. He has also come in to shows at a lighter body weight. This I feel is the right way to go for him. However, even at a lighter body weight, he lacks detail and conditioning to pose any serious threat to the top contenders. But definitely top 10 material.
STATS:
260 Lbs
5 Feet 8 inches
Number Ten - Gustavo Badell
He lacks aesthetics and symmetry, but has a good height and weight proportion. Gustavo lacks the ultra ripped body and he definitely is not a mass moneter which sort of puts him in the middle of nowhere. I do not think he will quite make too big an impression considering the guys he is up against. I feel Badell is past his prime and cannot compete with the fresh new packages on the scene today. Badell can only manage a tenth place finish this year.
STATS:
245 Lbs
5 Feet 8 inches
Bonus Question: Have you ever attended the Arnold Classic and Expo? If so, what did you think of it and how was your experience? Was it what you thought it would be? How could it be made better?
Sadly, No. I have not been to an Arnold Classic and Expo ever, but I do however have a gym guide and an extremely fit fit friend who made it to two Arnold Classic Expos and shows apart from countless other big competitions. Now, the world is all about information and information sharing. After healthy discussions with the friend I referred to, we were able to come up with some good ponts about the whole show and also certain stuff that we feel should be added at the earliest. Here goes -
The experience is awesome for someone who has a liking for fitness, powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongmen and the like. It is definitely a single place where the worlds best gather to put on a show for the world. This makes it possible to meet people from various backgrounds and countries and exchange tips, lessons, gossip and meet the stars. The favourites are definitely the supplement booths, which people flock to. For beginners and new comers, it is a good place to watch and learn from the pros performing on stage. For the experienced guys its like a festival that comes along every year and is a time for fun. All in all, a great way to spend a quality time. Afterall, the viewers go there to have a blast and the Arnold Clasiic delivers year after year. Moreover, dont forget, the most popular bodybuilder ever and the guy who belongs to bodybuilding royalty - Arnold Schwarzenegger himself will be present.
However, there are ways in which the expo can be improved and these I list as follows -
1. There are several guys who are beginners and also who have been athletes for a while. Shows like this are a huge platform to promote steroid free, drug free and safe bodybuilding to the masses who turn up. Efforts should definitely be taken to deliver the message across. A word from the stars perhaps or presentations etc to promote the point would be a great plus, considering that there are lot more young athletes taking to steroids today than there have ever been.
2. Exercise guide videos or books/booklets would be a great thing to put on sale. There are plenty of guys - experienced as well as newbies who would want to have that sort of a tool with them to aid in training.
3. Safe supplement stacks and dosages are a secret bodybuilding and strength tool. A little bit of education can be delivered to people on this subject.
4. Diet forms about three quarter of the bodybuilding routine - no joke. Keeping this in mind, there are several people out there who have not got the faitnest clue to proper ad clean dieting. A cook book or video specially for fitness with various goals in mind (weight gain, weight loss, etc) would be a good product to sell at a stall.

Topic of the Week 190: Who will win the 2009 Arnold Classic?
Victor is back in the mix! This year's Arnold Classic is not short on talent and one of many shows during the year to qualify for the Olympia. Next to the Olympia this is easily one of the biggest shows of the year and never disappoints.
One of the greats in our sport, arguable the best ever, Arnold Schwarzenegger, lends his name to this competition and thus, it is aptly named. The Arnold Classic is the second major competition of the year and outside of the Olympia, it is the largest. It is certainly one of the favorite competitions for the fans, as it has something that anyone can enjoy, from the expo to the powerlifting competitions to the competition between some of the best bodybuilders our sport has to offer.
The 2009 Arnold Classic: The Low Down
The 2009 Arnold Classic is one of the most anticipated in recent memory. Victor Martinez will be making his return in his first competition since the 2007 Olympia, where he finished second. Everyone is certainly anxious to see how well he performs and to see if he has fully recovered from his injuries.
Additionally, six out of the top ten finishers in last year’s Arnold Classic will be returning to compete this year. Kai Greene, who finished third last year, will be looking to win this year in the absence of the two competitors (Dexter Jackson and Phil Heath) who bested him who have chosen to forego this year’s Arnold Classic to focus on the Olympia, the largest and most prestigious bodybuilding competition. Branch Warren, who finished fourth last year, was not far behind and will be looking to improve upon his finish and perhaps, win this year. Silvio Samuel, who finished fifth in this competition last year, will look to bring the same package to the stage that he did when he won the Iron Man.
The 2009 Arnold Classic: The Top Ten
1 ToneyFreeman – Toney Freeman has been competing in the IFBB since 2003 and entered his first NPC Competition in 1994. As a result, he has more experience than almost any of the other competitors that will be taking the stage alongside him at this year’s Arnold Classic. He finished fifth in the previous year’s Olympia, his most recent competition.
Toney will easily be the biggest competitor on stage. He manages to combine his size with a well-defined waist, which he has managed to keep under control while increasing his size. Since beginning to train with Dave Polumbo, he has made great strides in his physique and will only continue to improve. Recent photographs have shown him six weeks out and he looks amazing. He should only continue to look better. If he comes in as he always does, look for him to take it all.
2. Victor Martinez – Victor Martinez has been absent from the bodybuilding stage since the 2008 Arnold Classic, where he suffered a knee injury that required rehabilitation for the remainder of the year. The last competition he competed in prior to that was the 2007 Olympia, where he finished second, despite many believing he was the rightful winner.
Victor is clearly one of the best bodybuilders in the world. He combines an impressive amount of size with solid conditioning. When he nails his conditioning, he can be near unbeatable. However, I look for his performance to slip a bit due to his lack of recent participation in competitions. Reports are, though, that he has recovered fully from his injury. If he comes with the package most are used to seeing, he could easily win.
3. Kai Greene – Kai Greene’s most recent competition was the 2008 New York Pro, which he won convincingly. He finished third in the competition last year. However, he chose to forego last year’s Olympia to make improvements on his physique. It is rumored that he increased his weight to over three-hundred pounds to make improvements. As a result, he will be bigger than ever and should be, as always, chiseled.
He is quickly becoming a fan favorite, as his posing routines are electric. He lights up the stage with his performance and has impressed fans and judges alike. However, his recent weight could prove to be an issue. If he misses his conditioning, he could easily drop. If he nails it and other competitors miss their mark, he could move up in the rankings.
4. Branch Warren – Branch Warren finished fourth in last year’s Arnold Classic. He, however, suffered a triceps injury which required surgery. Rumors are, he fully recovered from that and began training it lightly as soon as he could. Recent pictures have shown that his arms are as expected and will not show any signs of injury. He won the “Most Muscular” Award at this competition last year and will look to do the same again this year. His physique is incredibly impressive, due to his overall size and muscularity. If he nails his conditioning, he can really make moves in the rankings. If others miss their mark, he could look to move up. If not, I doubt he has the overall package to beat those above him at their best.
5. Moe Elmoussawi – Moe Elmoussawi will look to continue his performance from this year’s impressive second-place finish at the Iron Man. He has continued to improve since he entered the IFBB in 2006. He has added an impressive amount of muscle to his frame, whilst remaining toned and shredded. If he can drop a few pounds from the Iron Man and keep his physique streamlined, he could do some damage here.
6. Silvio Samuel – Silvio Samuel won this year’s Iron Man Pro and will look to continue his run here at the Arnold Classic. Silvio Samuel has become a fan favorite throughout his recent competitions and a string of solid placings has him amongst bodybuilding’s elite. His posing ignites the stage and thus, the audience and those who are judging the competition. His muscles are full and his physique never ceases to disappoint, as he combines size with conditioning. He could certainly place higher than sixth at this competition if other competitors disappoint.
7. Gustavo Badell – Gustavo Badell burst onto the scene what seems like years ago. His career has continued to slip since he entered the IFBB. It was once though that he could be a great, similar to Ronnie Coleman or Jay Cutler (of recent memory). He has, however, proven otherwise time and time again. He barely scratched the Top Ten at the Olympia not many months ago. His size is impressive but his conditioning has continued to disappoint. If he can return to his performance from years ago, he can best some of his competition here. Odds are, he won’t. A placing inside the Top Ten is to be expected, any higher is not.
8. Ronny Rockel – Ronny Rockel looked better than ever before at this year’s Iron Man. His physique has proven to be incredibly well-rounded and he has very few weak spots. His critics always claimed that his posing and presentation were poor but he has shown he can take criticism constructively, as he has improved his posing and presentation. If he nails his conditioning, he will easily make the Top Ten.
9. Dennis James – Dennis James showed a new-and-improved physique at the 2008 Olympia, which saw him drop some of his size and present a more streamlined physique. Critics have always demanded that he improve his conditioning and he has shown recently that he can do so. He certainly has the size to compete with the other competitors that will be alongside him this year. However, he has proven that he does not have the conditioning. If he can continue to improve it, though, we could see jump in the rankings, possibly inside the top five.
10. Ahmad Haidar – Ahmad Haidar is one of the most experienced competitors in this year’s field. It is for certain that he is no stranger to a bodybuilding stage. He has continued to improve throughout his years in the IFBB and has been incredibly impressive in his most recent competitions, namely this year’s Iron Man. He undoubtedly has the best abs in bodybuilding. He, however, gives up an incredible amount of size to the other competitors and despite his aesthetically pleasing physique, he simply cannot best them at his size. It is disappointing because I would prefer to see him much higher, as would many other fans.
This year’s Arnold Classic should be one of the best in recent memory. Anyone can compete for a spot in the Top Ten and anyone can take it all. It should be a great show!
Bonus Question: Have you ever attended the Arnold Classic and Expo? If so, what did you think of it and how was your experience? Was it what you thought it would be? How could it be made better?
I have never attended the 2009 Arnold Classic or its Expo. I have planned on making the trip in recent years, as the Expo is very appealing to me. It seems to be a fan favorite, as it is something everyone, and anyone, can enjoy. However, due to extenuating circumstances, I have been unable to attend.

He is no doubt impressive but take a gander at his placings against well-known bodybuilders in the major competitions - 17th in the 2008 Olympia, NP at the 2007 Olympia, 15th at the 2007 Arnold Classic, 12th in the 2007 Sacramento Pro, 16th in the Iron Man Pro, etc. He hasn't fared well in any of the major competitions and this certainly isn't a field in which he will begin to do so.
