Exactly! there are a lot of muscles and mechanics that will increase the distance and velocity of ball.

In H.S I could throw 49yards. I started just throwing long, easy, high floaters to Plastics totes, gradually strengthening my shoulder. In our last all star game (Semi-pro) I threw 71yards..... and came in 2nd! lmao

don't really know much about American Football at all but in this situation would throwing a weighted ball be the most effective way to gain strength?

Not sure if this destroys your judgement or something else crucial

Throwing a football is very similar to the vertical leap.
you need to be strong and explosive.

Some people have naturally long tendons and fast muscle fibers and can absolutely launch footballs despite being very strong (Michael Vick, Randy Johnson)

I'd say build up strength and look up 'upper body plyometrics'

The problem with using heavier objects is it can alter your mechanics to compensate. Some people talk about using heavier baseballs too. You can use weights in the gym and then use what you actually use in-game and I personally feel its the safer option .... if the rotator cuff is blown, your career is pretty much over.

I throw a 2lb ball very soft with hardly any velocity on it. More of a stretch then a muscle builder. It's more for my off season training regimen. After that I move to a Medical bad, or stretchy cord and go through the motions, moving further away making it more difficult. These bands come with a handle or a strap for your wrist, of which are both equally effective.
