Ok here's the deal, about 10 years ago I had a bad allergic reaction to shrimp (shellfish/ Iodine) and almost died and since have just gave up on eating all fish and shellfish in general. I am able to eat fish and salts but just cant stand the smell of fish so have not touched a piece in about 10 years. Recently I have had some soreness in my elbows and am looking into taking a supplement for joints but was told by the lady at GNC that alot of joint supplements are made form something that comes from shellfish which would contains iodine, however I do take a GNC multi pack that contains your daily dose of iodine ( from kelp). My question I guess is she correct, do alot of supplements contain this iodine from shell fish? What is recommend besides the fish oil for joints that would be safe for me to take and am i missing out on alot due to not eating fish?

I know some orthopedists recommend glucosomine with chondroitin to promote healthy joints. I've been taking it for months since I started working out. As far as dosage - I'm not sure. It's one of those "not proven" supplements, and it's kind of pricey if you buy quality. I also take fish oil - about 600mg daily which I was lead to believe is good for the skin and heart... not necessarily joint health.

Take fresh flaxseed oil. 2-4 TBS a day, for several days. That should help your soreness. Most joint formulas are not going to make an immediate difference; they are long-term/maintenance supplements.
