I know I don't get enough protein in my daily intake so I started checking out all the various protein supplement- shakes online (from whey isolate specifically, cuz of lactose intolerance).
Anyway, im shocked at the super high price these brands charge-
maybe its because i'm in the UK and many of these companies are American. But its quite frustrating; there's no way I can afford any of them (student budget, with no part-time job).
The average price for isolate seems to be around 35- 40 Pounds. ( $51- $60).
What are your experiences with affording a higher quality nutrition?
Are you willing to pay a bit more? (If u have it, obviously)

Don't import from USA you will get done on TAX which is going to cost you a hell of a lot more than the product itself.
I buy Optimum Nutrtion - 100% Whey Gold Std. I look online and can get a 10 lbs bag for around 50 - 60 quid.

Don't import from USA
I wouldn't. The prices i found (35-40 pounds) are the prices quoted by British websites. Still pretty high. I guess It's about getting value for ur money in quantity.

Yes I am willing to pay more for quality supplements because they help me lead a life of ultimate fitness and looking my very best is important to me. Supps give me a bit of an edge, more than just workouts and diet can provide, they are also handy to grab when I'm on the go. But that's just my opinion.
Don't feel that you HAVE to buy supplements to get results. a good workout program and a clean diet can do wonders.
Try changing up your diet to include more protein, many kinds can be very inexpensive. Canned tuna is about 75 cents a can, and bulk chicken breasts and lean ground turkey can be found for around $2 a pound. Eggs are cheap too, around $1.25 a dozen.

If you want whey, don't bother with pure whey isolate, just use the ON 100% whey (which is 50% isolate) in the biggest bag you can find (10 lbs), as Mindi recommended.
However, if food source protein is cheaper than the whey powder, it is perfectly fine to skip the whey powder and just eat whole foods.

Thanks for those great replies. I will check out the ON whey online & I will prolly need to eat more eggs and tuna- they are the bulk of my protein intake now but I just feel I need a bit more protein variety.

Some people like to buy expensive shoes, cars, clothes, jewelry and others like to buy quality food. It's all about priorities. People will adjust their budgets to fit what's important to them.

For me the cost of supplements helps to stay motivated and eat clean, I always think that I`ve spend all that money and now I have to keep it up! That`s a good way of thinking about it lol
I also live in the UK, I get my supplements online on www.discount-supplements.com, they always have lots of promotions including ON Whey.
I have just done my food shopping for the week: chicken breasts, eggs, tuna, vegetables (I am doing low carb) and spend ?25, so I think you can do it quite cheap. You just have to check the shops you have around for prices.

I had been going to recommend you try the USN products as here in Botswana they are very reasonably priced and I checked out the UK website and you are paying more than twice what we pay here... I was horrified... the USN PureProtein which I use and pay les than 20 quid for the 2.28 container is 50 quid... i kjnow chicken and tuna are expensive... when I left the UK 2 years ago chicken was about 10 per kilo ($14 ) so who knows how much it is now... value tuna may be the way to go but stay away from the ASDA cheap stuff, it tastes like cat food smells...
May be worth looking into how much it is to get stuff from this website just remember to add on the VAT which you will probably have to pay... sometimes Customs don't bother collecting it.... but factor it in anyway
