Great idea, Im just now starting to grab some of the study literature for various certifications and kinda flipping through what I already have now. I aspire to be a trainer myself so seeing a thread like this is definitely helpful. Its nice for a hopeful like myself to see what people have done in terms of training/education/certifications and what paths their careers have taken.. Inspiration for sure.
Again, great idea, looking forward to seeing this thread grow..

Some people do as independant trainers! I guess it's more personal preference, if you have the experience/funds to go independent and really the desire to go off on your own.

It's more of, do you have the balls to go out on your own. Most trainers would rather work for a gym because of job security, and leads being handed to them. When you're on your own, you have to get your own leads and turn them into clients
It's more difficult and a big risk for trainers

Very true, it for sure takes some balls to give up a steady pay check at a commercial gym and go on your own and find your own clients ect

Remember you do not know everything.
Learn something new everyday.
Assume your client knows nothing.
Give everything 110% because you do not know who is watching.
Give you clients the best service you can - they WILL tell all their friends.
Listen to your peers who know what they are doing (BigFrog etc).
Dont listen to some of the clowns on here (No names needed).

Education/Cert: B.S. in Exercise Science and Minor in Nutrition in May of 09, ACE CPT
Job: Full time student and part time personal trainer
Job location: Local fitness chain
Past experience: Previously had a job internship w/ Jim Cordova for a few months about a year and a half ago which inspired me to train/ bodybuild.
Dream Job: Physical Therapist and part time trainer
Comments: Job shadow other trainers, you can learn a lot. Be an example of how to lift and do exercises properly, read scientific based research and dont believe everything you see in Muscle and Fitness (saw one that said you can spot reduce fat loss, wow!), talk to other fitness professionals.
I agree, good idea for a thread.

Like we don't have enough problems explaining this...Especially to females... A well known magazine says it, infomercials too. How much harder do companies want to make it on us?
