nkh's Gaspari Nutrition Novedex XT + Mitotropin Log

Novedex XT: dosed 1-2-1 nightly, final dose day 40
http://www.gasparinutrition.com/Home/AllProducts/Novedex/ProductProfile/tabid/98/Default.aspx

Mitotropin: dosed as recommended, first dose day 10 - final dose day 40
http://www.gasparinutrition.com/Home/AllProducts/Mitotropin/ProductProfile/tabid/85/Default.aspx

Expectations:
I'll be supplementing my diet and routine with Novedex XT and Mitotropin to aid in gaining lean body mass while reducing body fat levels.

Goals:
Continue adding lean body mass to weigh at least 190 lbs.

Stats:
Age - 28
Height - 6'1''
Weight - 184 lbs

Diet:
I average 3,000 calories consistently. The only time I go over that is if A) I eat out and that happens no more than once per week or B) I eat a bed-time meal, usually a PB&J with a glass of milk.

Routine:
Monday - Chest / Biceps
Tuesday - Legs / Calves
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - Shoulders / Triceps
Friday - Back / Abs
Saturday - Off
Sunday - Off

My routine is still evolving as I move the order of exercises around and replace exercises as I give them a try in my routine. I'm also experimenting with the centuries old debate of where to put Biceps and Triceps in a routine.

Other Supplements:
Pre-workout - Universal's Shock Therapy or Animal Pump (minus red pill)
Post-workout - Universal's Torrent
Protein - Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey
Fish Oil - 2g per day combined EPA/DHA (2 servings split between AM and PM)
Multivitamin/Multimineral/Herb (single serving split between AM and PM)

History:
7 weeks ago I weighed in at 177.5 lbs. I have since only adjusted my diet and now weigh in at approximately 184 lbs. I have visibly put on lean body mass with minimal fat gain and have noticeable strength gains. I know that 3,000 calories a day isn't a lot, but the digital scale at my gym isn't going to lie to me. I would like to continue my current diet in an attempt to push past 190 lbs with lean gains. Once this 40 day log of Novedex XT and Mitotropin is completed, I will have spent the past 12 weeks maintaining a solid diet and regular lifting routine. The previous 6 weeks have only been supplemented with pre and post-workout nutrition and minimal (3-4 per week) protein shakes. This is my first go round with a supplement of Novedex XT's caliber.

You the Reader:
Please, make recommendations in my training, diet, or supplementation. I am open to suggestions and criticism.

Additional Notes:
Don't expect detailed workout information. I do log my routine and may make it available later in the log via Google Documents. I will be taking before and after pictures for my own reference, again, those may or may not be posted at the end of the log.

Day One - Day Four
Friday, Jan. 9 - Monday, Jan. 12

FYI, I actually started Novedex XT Friday, January 9th. I'm just now getting around to creating the log. I'm going to catch you up and work on keeping current.

Novedex XT:
Friday - 1
Saturday - 2
Sunday - 1
Monday - 2

I don't expect to be "feeling" anything from the Novedex XT, however, I am mentally more focused for the simple fact that I don't want to waste the opportunity with a poor diet or routine.

Monday's Routine: Chest & Biceps
Dips 3X10
Decline DB Bench Press 3X10
Incline Barbell Bench Press 3X10
Preacher Curls 3X10
Hammer Curls 3X10
20 minutes on stationary bike

Diet: 3,420 calories

I usually don't count my calories all that often, but I thought I'd do a sanity check since I was just starting the log. They turned out as expected as I had a meal before bed which pushed me past the 3,000 mark.

Day Five
Tuesday, Jan. 13

Novedex XT: 1

Tuesday's Routine: Legs & Calves
Squats 3X10
Calf Work on the Leg Press 3X15

Legs today was very limited as I injured my left hamstring during a set of squats a few weeks back and had to take a break. I have been doing 45 degree Leg Press the last couple of weeks though (almost to mentally prep myself for squats more than anything). I'll be adding more exercises to legs as I get comfortable again.

Diet: 3,040 calories

Spot on.

Thursday, Jan. 15

Novedex XT: 1

Thursday's Routine: Shoulders & Triceps
Seated DB Rear Lateral Raises 3X10
Seated DB Overhead Press 3X10
Standing DB Lateral Raises 3X10
CGBP 3X10
Standing Cable Pushdowns 3X10

Overhead presses were cake, but need to work on the lateral raises a lot. Triceps felt fresh and I was able to pump out 10 reps of each set with ease. Will add weight to both CGBP and Pushdowns next week. I was not able to complete the same weight when doing Triceps along with Chest last week.

FYI, I'm going to start putting up my numbers for reps to show progression. I also plan on getting an estimated 1RM for Bench, Squat, Press, and Deadlift to do a before an after comparison.

And it looks like the reply I reserved can't be edited after a certain amount of time, so my final review will be at the end I suppose.

Day Eight
Friday, Jan. 19

Novedex XT: 2

Friday's Routine: Back
Assisted Pullups - 3X10XBW
Lat Pulldowns - 3X10X65
Bent Over Barbell Rows - 3X10X75
Deadlifts - 1X7X185

I'll add weight to the pulldowns and rows next week and keep working on the pullups. I do them with my feet on a box, so my body forms an L shape hanging from a barbell in the power rack. Probably stick with 185 on the deadlifts and see if I can get 10 next time. Doing 10 of those at that weight feels like an endurance issue moreso than having muscle fatigue if that makes any sense.

Deadlift Estimated 1RM: 225

Why is it advantageous to use Novadex XT w/ Mitotropin? Has there been anything posted regarding the advantages of using both concurrently?

Why is it advantageous to use Novadex XT w/ Mitotropin? Has there been anything posted regarding the advantages of using both concurrently?

First off, thanks for the question! I am really looking forward to questions, recommendations, and even criticism. :)

Novedex XT claims to aid in reducing body fat levels while gaining lean mass and endurance. Mitotropin claims to increase resting metabolic rate and increase thermogenesis, an advanced fat burner if you will. Don't be afraid to click the links under the products I posted as their site is quite informational.

Reviews and logs from users here on bodybuilding.com have been positive for both products, especially while in a calorie deficit during a cutting phase. I crawled through a ton of posts concerning Novedex XT and Mitotropin before settling on this combo. I was also debating a run of Activate Extreme/Lean Extreme, which will probably come next after this log is complete. I"ll switch my routine up (probably back to Starting Strength) for that log.

I'm not in a calorie deficit, but hope to use Novedex XT to aid in lean body mass gains. I'll couple this with Mitotropin later, drop a few hundred calories from my diet every day, and really work to visibly sharpen those gains in the mirror.

Day Nine
Saturday, Jan. 17

Novedex XT: 1

Saturday's Routine: Off

I'd also like to point out that I'm really happy with my Back routine that I performed yesterday. When I first joined I read a lot of "pulldowns are worthless" replies. I think those people were just parroting something they'd read and hadn't ever really incorporated them into a routine themselves. Since I do pulldowns following assisted pullups, I really feel like I'm emphasizing the musculature system responsible for vertical pulling and I've seen faster gains in my pullup strength by doing this combination.

nkh routine looks good.. you gettin any strength increases or anything?

Honestly, I'm still progessing as a beginner, so strength increases are to be expected almost regardless. However, the true test will begin as I cut calories back over the next 30 days.

So far, I think I'm recovering quicker, which is expected of Novedex XT. I think I had most everything in order for gains in the first place, but I don't wake up feeling like I got mugged in a dark alley the night before. I wake up and the muscles I worked the day before just feel good, I really can't explain it. :)

Monday's Routine: Off

I spent 6 hours on the road today and didn't get home until late. I'm just going to double up the Monday/Tuesday routine tomorrow and bust it out.

So far the Mitotropin hasn't been aggressive like fat burners I've experienced in the past which just made me jittery. I did notice today that about 30 minutes after my evening dose my temperature rose a notch or three and I had to turn on some air. ;)

One Arm Pec Deck Flys 3X10X40
Preacher Curls 3X10/10/7X50
Hammer Curls 3X10X25

I did not feel like going to the gym, at all, but somehow I made myself go. I was also supposed to have double duty with chest/biceps & legs today, but that didn't happen. I dropped Dips and replaced them with flys as my shoulders felt blasted last week, probably due to poor execution on my part. I'll need to add weight most likely to all chest movements next week.

Added 5 pounds to both pulldowns and rows and completed 10 reps pretty easily. I got another deadlift rep in this week too. Maybe next week I'll make it to 10 without passing out. About the 5th deadlift I have this vein right in the middle of my forehead show up and it was kinda scary haha.

Seated Leg Press 3X10X160
45 degree Calf Press 3X10X180 (supersetted with leg press)
Hamstring Curl 2X10X130
Leg Extension 2X10X130
20 minutes cardio (3 minutes fast walk - 1 minute run)

I had every intention of doing some squats today (I'm at least telling myself that), but some guy camped out in the only rack we have. He did shrugs, overhead presses, rows, and then curls, in that order, in the power rack. :(

Other than the fact I missed out on squats, it was a good leg workout. I paired the calf work with the leg press and I really felt tired by the time I did curls and extensions.

Why are you taking Novedex on 1-2-1 pattern? Is it recommended by Gaspari to do it in such a way?

Subscribed, by the way :)

I'm dosing Novedex XT 1-2-1 for a couple of reasons:

This question has been posed in both the forums here and on Gaspari's site and the response varies a little between 2 and a 1-2-1 scheme and you could even argue total body weight against lean body mass for dosing. Us 180-200 pound guys kinda fall in the middle. I've read 180 lbs guys have good results at 2 and other guys who weigh in at 205 have the same results at 1-2-1.

I also didn't want to push the limit and experience any negative side effects. At this stage, I have not experienced anything negative like sleeplessness, acne, loss of libido, or lethargy. This is my first supplement beyond basic pre & post workout nutrition. If this continues, I'll definitely be dosing at 2 per night if I give Novedex XT another run.

I heard that some guys are having trouble with sleep while on Novedex. Hope that won't affect you.

DB Curls 3X10X25
Standing Barbell Curls 3X10X55
Barbell Wrist Curls 3X15X45

I added 5 lbs to each chest exercise this week! I was very impressed when I completed all 10 reps during the DB bench press. Pec deck flys are quite easy so I'll add another 5 next week and continue those. I've not done them often, so really still getting a feel for them. I also mixed up biceps a little by throwing in barbell curls and they really beat my ass.

Face Pulls (cable & wide grip)
3X10X45

Arnold Press
3X10X25

Upright Barbell Rows (wide grip pulled to pec height)
3X10X75

So I've been mixing up my shoulder routine a lot and I've pretty much settled on these three movements. However, next week I'll do the upright rows, arnold presses, and finish with the face pulls. I'm also moving triceps to back day on Friday, I just hope it doesn't interfere with chest on Monday. We'll see how that goes...

Oh ya, a little bit of formatting changes in hopes to make it easier to follow my routine. Not sure why I didn't do this sooner.

1X7X55

So I get to the gym today and by the time I'm doing rows, I start feeling sick, like jitters and nausea. I'm blaming the fact I gorged myself on Mongolian food today at lunch. I ended up skipping deadlifts and just bailing after I blew through triceps.

Other than that, I added 5 pounds to pulldowns, rows, and CGBP with ease. 5 more pounds on pressdowns may of been too much after the CGBP or maybe it was me feeling sick.

Hopefully, I'm going to head in tomorrow morning and do some cardio and abs.

How are your expressions about Novedex?

I'm very happy with the results so far. I have experienced:

quicker recovery times after workouts
strength increasing at a faster rate
mucho libido!

At this point in time, just a bit over half completed, I would recommend Novedex XT to anyone looking at similar products. Just make sure you're dosing scheme is not over the top to avoid any negative side effects users have listed.

Weighted (dumbbell) Side Bends
3X10X15

Wanted to go hit the gym to make up for the lack of it yesterday. I did abs and played around on the court running some lines, but I just started feeling sick again before I got into some cardio. I may actually be sick, but just am refusing to admit it to myself.

The side bends...I'm not sure if that's what they're really called. Feet on the station under the pad, I put my hip on another pad and bend my torso down and then crunch back up. This station is also used for hyper-extensions (on an incline instead of lying I suppose) if that gives you an idea.

I also added 10 pounds to the incline bench this week and had no real problems completing 3 sets (last chest day was listed at 105, so I ended up skipping 110!). The flys were more difficult as I jumped 10 pounds over last week, but I'm finally where I needed to be on them.

The gym was packed, hence why my preacher curls are mid-routine. I'm not super worried about the guns, I've got more foundation building to do.

It's more important to learn proper technique, rather than squatting with heavy weight. Lower the weight and do controlled, slow squats and you will feel the difference.

That's pretty much what I've done. I really dropped the weight down and started fresh. I can tell a huge difference in squats now that I've spent some quality time with deadlifts and rows. One of the reasons I dropped so much weight is that I was rounding my lower back when I started coming out of the box even when my legs had lots of fuel left.

I think my dislike of squats may stem from Starting Strength which was the routine I really stuck with when I got back into the gym. I had never done them previously, so they were fun and new to me, but doing them every day in the gym made me hate them pretty quickly.

I might complain about doing them, but I think they are an absolute fantastic exercise!

nkh, just out of curiousity, what time of day do you work out?

I leave work and get to the gym around 5PM. I'm usually headed home in an hour or so. Good luck with your progress during your Novedex XT run!

I might complain about doing them, but I think they are an absolute fantastic exercise!

Nothing is worst that lunges, and I am doing them though.

I'm w/both of you on squats and lunges. Keep up the good work though.

I leave work and get to the gym around 5PM. I'm usually headed home in an hour or so. Good luck with your progress during your Novedex XT run!

Thanks, I am going to need it. This is my first go at it.

Day Twenty-eight
Thursday, Feb. 5

Novedex XT: 2

Mitotropin: 3 - 3

Thursday's Routine: Shoulders

Seated DB Shoulder Press
3X10X30

Wide Grip Upright Rows
3X10X75

Face Pulls
3X10X55

Lateral Raises
3X10X15

10 minutes cardio - about 4 minutes solid sprinting

I thought I had already submitted Thursday's routine, but I may never have hit submit.

I'm working on my cardio a little differently. I want to increase the time/distance I can run/sprint, so I went for as long as I could then knocked it down to a walk. I still need to dedicate more time to cardio if I really want to focus in on it.

Novedex XT: 2

Monday's Routine: Chest & Biceps

DB Bench Press
3X10/10/8X50

Incline Barbell Bench
3X8/9/7X120

One Arm Pec Deck Flys
3X10X55

Barbell Shrugs (surprise shrugs on chest day!)
3X10X135

Barbell Curls (in the squat rack!)
5X10X45 (30 seconds rest each set)

Added 5 pounds to incline bench and struggled. I rested longer for the 2nd set which explains getting 9 reps. My DB bench was more controlled today, even though I gave out in the 3rd set again.

Right shoulder hurts now... Its that pain you can't pinpoint because its inside your shoulder. Feels like bone grinding against bone. I did do RC warmups, but instead of using the resistance bands, I grabbed a 5 lb plate and just swung it around. Maybe that's my problem right there.

So ya, curls in the squat rack. I did 5 sets with the bar and only 30 seconds rest in-between sets. This is officially my new favorite bicep blaster!

So...

Five days to go.

Planning to max out (aka estimate my max) on bench, press, deadlift, and squat next week.

Then rest a full week.

And start a very wild, exciting, fun times body weight focused routine hell bent on getting below 10% body fat.

While attempting to retain the 10 or so pounds I've put on since December 1st.

30 days is correct for Mito. I simply started Mito on day 10 of my log as I wanted to run Novedex XT at 1-2-1, which will last for 40 days (2 days shy of 6 weeks).

I have pics and I might post them. I also have before and after body fat estimates to put up.

oh ok. i didnt check that. why would you not post them? isnt that what its about for people to SEE how your doing and what the difference looks like or is the log just for you to keep up with?

FINAL REVIEW
Day 1 through 40 - Novedex XT
Day 10 through 40 - Mitotropin

Weight (digital scale)
Day 1: 184 lbs
Day 40: 187.2 lbs

I actually ended up almost topping 189 pounds before I cut calories back even more. I think as I started the Novedex XT, I just continued to put on mass with reduced calorie intake!

Estimated Body Fat (Omron handheld)
Day 1: 18 - 18.5 %
Day 40: 15 - 15.5 %

As I mentioned, I had spent the previous weeks on a bulking diet and since Dec. 1 had gone from 177.5 to 184 pounds. I also topped out at almost 189 pounds before I dropped calories even lower.

Estimated 1RM - Jan. 9 (Day One)
Bench - 160 lbs
Squat - 175 lbs
Overhead Press - 95 lbs
Deadlift - 200 lbs

Estimated 1RM - Feb. 17 (Final Day)
Bench - 175 lbs
Squat - 215 lbs
Overhead Press - 100 lbs
Deadlift - 260 lbs

I feel like my bench and overhead press could be and are probably better. I spent a lot of time getting in the groove for the exercises that target those muscles without actually performing flat barbell bench or overhead barbell press. Squats and deadlifts are pretty simple, just add more weight.

I calculated my 1RM based on doing those lifts during the end of December and the week following the end of my log.

Novedex XT
Dosed 1-2-1 before bed nightly

Increased Recovery
I felt fresh the day after each workout.

Increased Strength
I truly felt stronger each day in the gym, which made adding weight and progressing awesome.

Increased Libido
Just wow.

Negative Side Effects
I experienced minor acne the last 10 days or so of the log on my back and shoulders. Cleared up a few days afterward.

Novedex XT did everything it claims. I can't recommend this product enough so long as you find a solid dosing scheme for your body weight. I imagine I could of dosed 2 every night and not experienced any issues. This is a fantastic product and I will be back for more.

Mitotropin
Dosed as recommended 3 pills AM and 3 pills PM

Reduced Body Fat
Yup. I was packing on mass and when I finally got down to the right calorie level (about 2,200 from 3,000), the Mitotropin really kicked in to help me shave about 3% body fat.

Increased Focus and Energy
Even more noticeable on an empty stomach. I did not experience any jitters with this product.

Little to No Hunger Suppression
I didn't feel less hungry and the hunger pains were difficult considering the amount and how often I had been eating prior to starting Mitotropin.

This was also my first real experience with a fat burner (for lack of a better description). I don't know what to say other than it works. I have nothing to compare it to, but don't let that play any part in your decision. This is a solid product, but adjusting your diet is more important!

Final Scores

Novedex XT: 10/10
Novedex XT is some damn fine stuff. If you're considering a boost to your routine without going the PH route, I suggest you evaluate your diet and add a product like Novedex XT to your arsenal.

Mitotropin: 7/10
I gave Mito a 7 because I expected to "feel it working" and it didn't help suppress my hunger pains. I'll most likely change my tune if I ever try another similar product.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by during my log. I tried to rep everyone who posted a comment or question. This log helped me stay focused and I recommend anyone who's got concerns or second thoughts about the effectiveness of product to start a log!

Take into consideration I can't account for water weight. I was drinking a lot of water and especially milk (upwards of a half gallon per day).

Additionally, my gains are pure beginner gains. When I got real serious back around December 1st, I was bench pressing 35 lb dumbbells. I ended my log pushing up the 50s for 10 reps. My deadlift max went up probably over 60 pounds in 40 days.

I wanted to mention one more thing about Mitotropin.

The directions, diet, and routine they've packaged with it are like nothing I've ever seen before. Hats off to Gaspari for taking the extra effort.

If they would of done the same for Novedex XT with a chart to calculate your dosage based on body weight or somesuch, I would of had to of given it an 11. :)
