I've had lower back problems for a year or two so far. I got these problems due to staying on the computer too long, only working out the upper body (ignoring legs), sleeping on a couch for several months, etc. Everything added up and I started getting pains in my lower back.
I tried not working out for 3 months, made almost no difference. I just decided to ignore it and continue working out.
Solution:
I found a variety of solutions to fix my lower back problems.
A. Jog, walk. Just do a very light jog, light enough to not harm the lower back; because jogging fast puts too much pressure on the lower back.
B. Work out the legs. Without a strong base, you will get injuries.
C. Work out your abs and lower back. Put some muscle on your lower back to support it! I found a great ab work out using the P90X ab ripper X. You can download it free from their site.
I know how much it sucks to have lower back problems slowing your work out schedule down. It set me back many months, maybe even years. After trying everything, I found those 3 to be the best solutions for my lower back. I haven't had pain in my lower back for almost 3 months now.
Hope this information is helpful. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
*Edit* Also, icing/heating your lower back helps, along with taking ibuprofen, to take down the swelling. But only take it 3 times a week, too much ibuprofen is really bad for you.
