I own/fix musclecars. I currently own a 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 Convertible (20 years now) and a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass "S" convertible (3 years,was previously dad's)
Have owned a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible,1969 Pontiac Firebird coupe,1971 Buick GS coupe over the past 20 years.
I also collect diecast, plastic model and toy 1967-1969 Pontiac Firebirds and any memorabilia in regards to them.
I used to be into sports cards but off loaded the bulk of them during the price boom years and kept a few select cards that are sure to peak financially down the road.
I also am into vintage vinyl.I used to DJ and have a good sized collection of vinyl and now i can add more to the collection since i purchased a turntable that converts vinyl to your computer and then you can burn it to a CD or to your ipod.

I'm going to get into the vintage stereo equipment as well.My stuff is older, like 80's and works well but i want some of that funky stuff from the late 70's.Talk about true kickass power.NOT CHEAP though, unless of course the thrift store or yard sale find but you need to know what you are looking for.I have my eyes open for a specific pioneer receiver.I'd also settle for another pioneer receiver but my first choice i'm hoping to score on.
Had an older couple i know give me MINT sleeves and vinyl 45's from the 60's, complete with the store bags and receipts :) and some musty smell but hey, free is for me ;)

I still drive once in a while the '78 Corvette I drove to high school 26 years ago. I have an '88 Corvette convertible first owned by Alan Jardine, of the "Beach Boys". I enjoy going off road in my Land Rover LR3. I went off road in my '78 Corvette one winter, that wasn't fun, but it did get my heart rate up!

I am a Formula 1 race fan, Ferrari of course!

The quickest way is to use the long form "post reply" at the bottom left of a thread, then under where you type, use the "manage attachments" option.

That's weird- the option is missing right now. Maybe it got shut off due to a server issue or something.

You can also host it on a free site on the net, then link it here with the url to the picture beween tags.

Marantz is another biggy. The power wars were going on at the time, probably peaked around 77/78 and started to fester down afterwards.TRUE wattage! If you are ever stuck and need to workout you only need to curl that receiver a few times to wind yorself LOL I'm partial to Pioneer as i have owned my Pioneer stuff since new and it has never failed me in 22 years and is pretty much perfect to this day.Purchased it with my saved McDonalds part time job money for almost $2K back then  If you want a good website (if you do not know of this site check it out) http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php
$7 is what i'm talking about, what a steal!!! Sad part is most of these "thrift" stores have people price shop on Ebay and sometimes you walk in and look at some of the prices and say to yourself WTF?

Glad to see another car guy here :) My friend/co-worker has a 79' vette but he has ABSOLUTELY no clue about the car.He just likes to say he owns a vette  when in conversation.
My father was into the older cars, could not afford the newer ones plus you could fix your own car then.I learned from him and will pass it on to my children.
I could tell you a few stories about off-road ::eek: not fun but great rush.Should try that sometime before i hit the gym!
I too have an older home,50 years old.Bungalow, 1100 sq/ft SOLID home with a BIG YARD. Today in most metropolitan parts that is a premium.

Chris: my entire life has been about trying to do a balancing act between what we have to do ( family and work ) and what we like to do.....

as such, I am the man of a million hobbies.....

I do a lot of fishing and as some know, run a busy website, NYbass.com over here in NY......

Working out is a lifelong passion , of course......

Music: big part of my life, I play keyboards and have a full MIDI studio downstairs in the play room and I record my own records where I play all of the "instruments" via my keyboard..... listen to my IPOD an awful lot and have gone to a zillion concerts with my wife and sons and friends.....

like you, I like to draw, which, by the way, you are AMAZING! I do superhero drawings of, yet another passion in my life , Marvel Superheroes...

I have a gigantic comic collection of the old silver age Marvels.....

Building Model Ships! I am always working on one all the time, takes me months or even years, but I always finish them...a very relaxing hobby.....

Absolute movie freak! I have literally , THOUSANDS of movies...follow that industry closely....

Reading: always reading a book, all the time, just slowly, with my main interest being history or some sort of non fiction.....

also along the way in life:

at one time, running 4 aquariums at same time, having a full sized complicated HO train set up, learning EVERY ( no exagerration ) card game that was ever invented, reading countless books on Bridge stategy, trying hard to get good at Chess, reading umpteen books on that also, but failing miserably.........

hmmmmmmm...lets see what have I left out:

a total professional sports geek: follow that closely, yes, I am one of the guys who knows all of the facts and stats and figures......

coached my 3 sons in all sports at one time or the other when they were growing up.........

oh yes, this DAMN INTERNET which now takes up so much of my "free" time.....

somewhere sandwiched in all of that, being a great husband ( I think ) to my wife of 35 years and a great Father ( I know ) to my 3 boys, the true treasure of my life.......

another drain on my time now are my 3 grandchildren......

hey, and somehow, I managed to do all of the above while working 50 hour weeks in my Dental office the last 30 years......

WHEW...........so let's see, what do I do ( have done ) besides lifting weights....hmmmmm......LOL!

Once I upgrade my hard drive in my computer I will be getting into lp restoration as I've been using Adobe Audition with stunning results. I have 78's too with a Lenco L75 for that & a Thorens TD160 for lp's. Been a seasoned audiophile of over 30 years.

I'd love to upgrade my audio equipment. Of course, need the home theatre stuff but still. If I were looking ideally, I'd want some McIntosh equipment. The vintage 70's Marantz, SAE, and Pioneer also come to mind. There was a Pioneer amp that if I could get my hands on, I'd be a very happy guy. I can't find it though. Used to be in pawn shops all over in the 90's. It looked like the SA606 but I seem to remember it being more powerful and closer to the SA9800. The turntable, of course aTechnics 1200MKII. I love the sound of vinyl. IMHO, Young Lust sounds better on vinyl than CD.

My hobbies include being on the internet too much, playing golf when I can, cooking, working on computers and such. Geeze, I really don't do much.

I'll chime in here.

Well...I've been a musician all my life and played professionally in live bands for many years.
I have always written and recorded my own material and have always had a recording studio of some sort....albeit modest but quite adequate for pro recordings.
Also...always loved Astronomy and all Earth Sciences.
I was a music/geology major.

I use to draw some. Heman type characters....I shoot some basketball with my kids some. Throw the football with them and the baseball some.

Working construction for the last 14 has made me more of an indoor person. I really dont care much for going out.

Sailing, biking (road and mtb, but mostly road), snow shoeing, rock climbing (technical and non), tennis, computer stuff.

I want to get into gliding when the weather gets better. Soar like an eagle and not have engine noise. That's gotta be cool!

I used to play computer games alot but found that it was sucking the life out of me and so walked away from that.

Other things that take my time that I don't consider hobbies are my kids, Search and Rescue work and my GF.

Photography
(I've exhibited on national and international salons - not so much recently, though)

Golf
(not good - but I usually break an honest 100)

And I'm a rock music journalist - when I'm not working full time
(progressive rock, progressive metal, heavy metal)

Family
(3 grown kids, but I spend a lot of time with my wife of almost 28 years)

I read car magazines.

I am a Formula 1 race fan, Ferrari of course!

I'm also a huge car nut. I don't have the $$ to collect cars, though I'm currently enjoying my little G35. I've had a lot of uncommon English and European cars over the years. I read all of the main car mags, and haven't missed a Formula 1 race in years (Mclaren :P)

Sailing, biking (road and mtb, but mostly road)

I used to cycle - raced on what was then called the "semi-pro" circuit. Mostly road, but I also did track because it develops a whole different kind of fitness, and really schools you in tactics.

And I grew up racing sail boats - qualified for and competed in national championships etc. I haven't been on the water for years, but I plan to move to a different state in the next year or 2 - and will be on an estate that has a yacht club :D

REally? I didn't know it was done. I have not been in years. I never raced in it, but had several friends that did. Lots of fun. I haven't had a stang in a long time. Have been recently thinking about building another one though.

Obviously I'm into motorcycles. Way too many hobbies, and I certainly have no life. 26 years of D&D, RIP E.G.G. I pro-paint 25mm heroic scale figures and build scale scenery for R/P games. I usually reserve winter for oil painting and as soon as I clear up the space I'm setting my easel up.

Sad part is most of these "thrift" stores have people price shop on Ebay and sometimes you walk in and look at some of the prices and say to yourself WTF?

my ex and i used to collect off the wall audio gear - all class a tube stuff. he had marantz monoblock amps, pre-amp and a the tube tuner that went with it, and was running a jbl metragon to it. insane. because the metragon wouldn't fit in SF size rentals he sold it as well as the marantz gear. we were running ace audio hand built tube monoblock amps (built by dennis boyle) to my vintage klipsch la scalas - known for their midrange "ring" and humpiness. found an online site to mod it up but never got around to it. we found a very nice tube preamp on an online audiophile gear site, which matched very well with the speakers already in place - with a few tube exchanged is really damped down the mids so the speaker mod wasn't necessary. we had wadia digital 3 piece cd transport hooked to it. we used some of dennis' hand braided interconnects and speaker wire. i never thought i would be one to hear the difference a simple wire change would make, particularly after the burn-in period. i was wrong.

Well, it's not really "gone" as it's just been opened up to all American muscle (GM and Mopar are now welcome). They had to do this as both viewership and racer counts have been decreasing over the years. I'm all for it.....would love to beat EVERY fast muscle car in New England instead of just every fast ford! :D Time to put the 86mm and new race tranny to work!!

I've been building model airplanes for almost forty years now. My Dad has been building since 1942 and has taught me all I know. I started with Control-Line when I was five:

Moved to R/C when I was 15. Here's my latest creation (Yes, red is my favorite color!):

I have three or four others on my workbench as it's still winter building season.

Also into photography here. I started chasing storms in the mid-90's ... something my dad used to enjoy doing when I was a kid. I've seen somewhere around 130 tornadoes or so at this point, documenting them for the media and weather service. I was a videographer for The Weather Channel for about five years. Sort of a weather geek. Most people think it's crazy, but there's a lot to it. My stuff still appears on various programs every now and then. It's been on Discovery Channel, abc, cbs, nbc, TWC, PBS ... just about all of them at some point. It's a hobby that has ended up helping me earn a living. Some samples ... Yeh, the general consensus is that it's a good move. FFW had really gone down hill in the last few years due to management. I don't have a race car any more either way, so it doesn't matter much to me personally.

I dont know if its a "hobby" more of a passion, avocation, second profession

Im a jazz drummer.

I play professionaly about 50 times a year....about 15 of those are concerts at Universities or other concert halls. The others are clubs/restaurants that feature jazz.

My other hobbies are Jazz History and Sienfeld.

I own all 9 seasons and watch them every night in bed with a mini DVD player....I unwind, laugh, and fall off to sleep laughing

Yeah ... fortunately for me (unfortunately for most Kansans), we have plenty of them in the spring. :)

I actually was on a tornado one time that was a ringer for the one in the Wizard of Oz. Twisting and turning and pulling up the prairie ahead of it ... pretty interesting to watch. Was also on the largest tornado ever recorded at 2.5 miles wide. It destroyed an entire town in about two minutes. As in, off the map ... nothing left.

Well come on! ... All you need is a camera, the will to survive, and boulders for balls ... For the most part my chase partner and I chase together these days, though at times there may be a meteorologist or two or the media along. It can be pretty hectic. But when you see something incredible, it makes it all worth it. The last two episodes of the show Storm Chasers on Discovery mirrored my chases those days exactly (in fact, my car can be seen in a few of their shots). We were on an amazing multi-vortex tornado that produced about 25 touchdowns in 30 minutes time. Came within a quarter mile of the car ... close enough to hear the roar. Incredible stuff.

I prefer vintage gear as it just sounds better.

Recently checked out some modern integrated amps and found they sucked.

Home theatre has killed serious listening from an audiophile point.

Oh, FYI I have over 2000 lp's, 500-600 78's & over 1100 classical cd's.

My turntable is a vintage Thorens TD160

There's a lot of talent around here. The drawings, and the photography, woodworking, scratch model building...I feel so inadequate! ;-)

I'm into home improvement. Build sheds, decks, finish garages, love yard work. Over the summer I redid our front yard...dug a 2'x18"x170' long trench for a retaining wall. Took 4 frikken days.

Guns are another time-consumer. Don't have a large collection, but the 375 H&H and SLR-95 are my favorites. Recently started reloading for the 375...need to get dies for 303 British next.

torn8o,

I see you make it up into Nebraska on your chases.

Last summer I had a tornado pass within about 100 ft of my house and then cut across town and pass within about a block of my business.

The thing was trying to get me......... ;) :D

A car wash down the street from me was torn up good, they took several months to rebuild and renamed it the 'Tornado Wash'. :D

I've never chased a tornado, but always thought it looked like a lot of fun.

Hey Old Time - - up in Nebraska just about every year. I'm trying to think - - don't recall being on anything up there last year. I've chased all over Neb, but the biggest stuff I've found is either up in the Northeast corner, or down around Beatrice to Grand Island. The Hallam, Nebraska storm of 2004 is the one I referenced above at 2.5 miles wide. It was the most amazing thing I've seen in Nebraska. This year wasn't a good year for seeing stuff up there. I was on a tornado in Kearney on May 29th, but dived into Kansas that evening in time to catch the big show the same day. I would like to chase Nebraska more, really ... it's great country.

Yes i remember the Global craze for BMX,i had a Mongoose bike, mushroom grips, Aria tyres and rims, stunt pegs front and back, i think they only brought out the Mongoose because Raleigh brought out the 'Diamondback' first. I remember BMX bandits film and the video game :D they cheesed the whole craze up to the max.

I have a special confession to make, you know those hobbies that are left in the closet .... the ones you swear are not yours - well i have Kath & Kim 4 series of them on DVD, plus i have Da Kath & Kim Code special film - seriously embarrasing :D lol.

Your hobbies make you all very interesting people....complete and whole.

Other than the gym I now find myself hobbyless. As I think about it...that's not me. My hobbies seem to run in 10 years gung ho spurts then fizzle and then suddenly go off in the damndest directions.

Skiing...competed and did poorly
Cartooning...never published
Gardening...my current garden needs attention badly
Motorcycles...I still think about building up another HD
Auto racing...expensive
Writing...did rather well...published in 5 languages...never sold my screen play

I do love my work selling big rigs from snow plows to fire trucks. That and training are my longest passions outside family.

I bounce around with my hobbies and they are all over the place.

I play guitar, like to collect vintage guitar equipment, I do electronics work to vintage electronics, Drag racing, build turbocharged V8 cars for myself and others, Play around with Harley's some, Restore classic vehicles (working on a 1964 Chevy piculp at the moment), Photography, When I have a lot of time I will draw but I hate to quit in the middle so I don't do that as much lately...

Your hobbies sound a lot like mine (I'll post up in a minute). If you don't mind, PM me regarding turbocharging. My son is wanting me to turbocharge his car (currently a carbureted 5.0L Ford small block), and it looks complicated. He doesn't want to go back to EFI, and saw you post later that you are blowing through the carb ... so I need to ask your advice!!

I used to race BMX for 10 years when I was alot younger (79-89). The santion I race for has age brackets for racing. The class I race is 41-45 expert cruiser class in BMX. The photos below are my race bikes.

From what I know your generation of young teens was really the 1st teenagers to BMX, so good job! One of my older brothers was a teenage BMX'er also....

Wow! Did this thread get a bump and a half!

Hmm, let me see....

Music. For a white Englishman, I have a particular fondness for blues and Southern rock.

I play harp. When I'm on form I don't mind saying I play it well. I would've got away with playing with Muddy.

Guitar: Just stringed up with some 00.12" guage strings for a little SRV. It's pumped my right forearm up a couple notches on my watchstrap.

Keys: I don't do 'em much anymore, but I love playing cool inversions. Chords make so much more sense on the piano compared to the guitar.

Cooking: Just cooked up a chili using a reheated batch of shortribs I roasted for 6 hours yesterday. Some potatoes, beans, tomatoes and chilis. Superb. I'm not a 'restaurant' style cook. I just love good food.

Movies: My insomnia is very handy here. I can wake up at 3am and get a couple of movies in before the kids wake up.

Main thing at the moment is my kids. I love 'em.

What kind of music do you write and what instruments do you play.

I have a degree in music (Classical Guitar Performance) but I have only really played in punk bands. It was always interesting to do a classical intro, like one of Chopin's Etudes and then go into a 1-4-5 riff. But, lately I have been writing a lot of pieces in open tunings. I have been really into the D-A-D-F#-A-D tuning lately.
