Making the Decision to Use AAS

Making the decision to use any type of exogenous hormone should not be taken lightly and I would encourage you to complete as much research as you possibly can about the subject. I will attempt to detail some of the most important things one should consider before making their choice. The choice to use potentially could effect you for the rest of your life and everyone must be willing to accept that before using. Anabolic steroids can be dangerous to your health if they are used incorrectly. It is the people who make the uninformed decision to use or abuse anabolic steroids that have given them a bad name. Please make an informed, intelligent decision before deciding to use.

The following are my recommendations of what to consider before using anabolic steroids.

Benefits or Rewards
"That which does not kill us makes us stronger." --Friedrich Nietzsche

The advantages of using are pretty linear and not really worth going into too much. Obviously the underlying reason for using is to help a person achieve their goals. When you use anabolic steroids, generically they promote protein synthesis within the cells which results in the buildup of cellular tissue. This leads to a more rapid development of muscles leading one to becoming bigger and stronger. On the other hand, they don't work by magic. It requires solid training coupled with a very organized nutrition plan to really reap the rewards of use.

Before using one should be comfortable with their diet and be sure they are feeding themselves enough nutrients to grow. This will help ensure that if you choose to not use anabolic steroids again, your body will not revert to its original size due to poor eating habits.

This also leads to the point of "when a user is ready" for AAS. Most people tend to agree that a user is only ready once they have hit their natural limitations. While this is ideal and helpful for numerous reasons - its not always how things go. Having reached your natural potential helps due to the fact that you most likely have a very detailed understanding of your body and how to feed correctly. Personally, I feel that as long as you are an adult and make an informed decision to start using - feel free. Its your body and your risk, I just ask that everyone chooses wisely.

Risks Associated with Use

There are a couple risks that I would like to address that are related to the use of anabolic steroids. I will not be covering cosmetic or reversible things such as acne or bloat. I will only attempt to cover the most negative risks one might encounter on their journey. Please note that these are not common effects of responsible usage in adult males, however there is always the possibility. Lets go ahead and jump right into the two biggest concerns one should have when making the decision to use anabolic steroids.

HRT

Introducing exogenous testosterone and anabolic steroids in general into your system will cause a shutdown of your natural testosterone production. Typically by method of PCT (Post-Cycle Therapy) this will help kickstart your natural production again and it will slowly bring itself back into the normal levels. One thing to note is that everyone has a different recovery experience. Some will return to full natural production quicker than others and some will not ever return to pre-use testosterone levels. A very important thing to consider is that you may possibly never have as much natural testosterone production as you did prior to using.

If for some reason you are unable to recover to an acceptable amount of natural testosterone production, you will eventually start looking into Hormone Replacement Therapy. If you end up on HRT, you will be on this for the rest of your life. You will be prescribed either a testosterone gel or intra-muscular injections to help bring your testosterone levels into an acceptable range. Before you think this is a good thing, think again. If you are 25 now, you will be using testosterone injections until you die. 50 years? 60 years? Who knows. Self medicating your hormone forever is a huge commitment and you had better be comfortable with this possibility. Even if you somehow think you will only be doing one cycle.

Reproduction

The use of testosterone can negatively impact your ability to reproduce. If you have yet to have children and would like to maybe have them someday, you should consider not using until then. Testosterone application will cause a diminished sperm count in men and there is always the possibility of eliminating it alltogether. Typically your sperm count will go up to near pre-testosterone levels after cessation of use but there are no guarantees. There is the chance that you may not ever be able to produce again. This is rare but definitely possible.

**No, testosterone cannot be used as a male birth control option alone. Many people have conceived mid cycle.**

Please take these both into consideration. These potentially are consequences that you may have to deal with forever. If you cannot handle the fact that you may need to self medicate with testosterone for the rest of your life - or may never have children - Maybe this isn't for you yet.

Very good, I was about to start in with my .02 about the difference between informed decision and natural limitation, but you discussed the issue very well.

I'm still trying to convince myself that I won't stay on forever, lol.
