All I can say is - Im so damn glad I did!
I checked out Blackwater Park, been listening to it non-stop. I'm still not a huge fan of the growling, but the instrumental soundscapes are amazing and just damn epic!

I picked up Blackwater Park and am not into the growling. The music is fantastic. Do all of their cds have growling? Which ones have the least and still rock?

mellow and quite beautiful in a somber way.

Damnation is great! Now if they would only combine the singing style of this one with a song like The Funeral Portrait... :D

Damnation, as mentioned, has no growling. It isn't typical Opeth though. No crunching riffs and whatnot.
Watershed is the most hybrid of their albums, moreso than Blackwater Park.
But, Morningrise is my favorite. Has a bit more of a black metal bias to it and Mikael's growls are much "thrashier"/black. Black Rose Immortal = perfection. However, Opeth's studio production was much worse prior to Blackwater Park. A remaster of Still Life and Morningrise would be amazing.

I'm really feelin Blackwater.... Damnation is great as a chill album, but Blackwater is just rifftacular - gets me pumped for anything. I'm gonna check out Watershed next
