just curious as to who does part of the tanning themself?
As my show is this coming saturday, i'm afraid i can only apply the protan(2 coats daily wed/thurs/fri) followed by jan tana comp tann(friday night) by myself, mayb my little bro can help me with my back thats about it.
i'll be pouring my protan into a container and use a bathing sponge to apply it by myself, any tips/advices?

FlTallPaul suggested to me that I use car wax pads. I felt that worked pretty well for even application. Just pour it out, dip the pad and wipe it on. Try to use the dry part of the pad to even out the streaks. Works well.

yup, i have one of those wax pad, but i guess i'll keep the wax pad for Jan Tana on friday.
for protan i'll try out with the bathing sponge, do you apply the protan yourself or have someone help you out?
thanks!

I did about 75% by myself. My wife did my back. I dont see how it would be possible to do it all by yourself. Unless you were very creative. :)

i see
as i'll be having my 15yr old bro to help me apply my back, what are some tips you can give when you ask someone to help you apply your back?
brush the protan onto my back in a downward motion to make sure its even?

best tip is to start 4 days out and do 1 coat each night, shower off in the morning. this way if you mess up on the first coast its no big deal. after each coat you will get better at applying it and it will come out looking better. not to mention it will not "cake up" if you only do 1 coat a night and shower off in the morning
EDIT : I'll attach 2 pics - the first one is with 0 coats pro tan, the second one is after 2 coats of pro tan using the method i described above

I did three coats of pro tan prior to applying 2 coats of dream tan. I showered between each coat. I was too light on stage. I would advise NOT showering after the last application of protan.....then do your other tanner/bronzer. Next time, I will do 4 coats of protan and not shower after the last one and then two coats of dream tan.

I did 4 coats of pro tan, one each night and showered it off in the morning. then on show day i put my first coat of dream tan on at 5am and my second coat of dream tan on at 11am (pre-judging at 12:30pm). I was VERY happy with my color, my only mistake was that I sprayed pam on before going on stage but it was not necessary and made me too shiny/runny bc i was also sweating a little from the pump-up and posing on stage. dream tan has enough of a shine to it on its own, especially after a pump-up

If you spray then dab the pam it turns shine to sheen.

Yes, i saw a lot of people put too much pam on so you have to be careful with it, definitely dab it after applying. There was a lady at my show who had a great tan and i asked her what she used. She just added a few drops of baby oil to her dream tan #2 before she put it on, it looked great.
There is a trainer i work with who used JanTana for her last couple of comps. and she loves it. She can actually put it on her whole body by herself, even her back. But she's pretty damn flexible too.

2-3 coats in one shot is probably unnecessary....but you cant really be too dark.

well i hope it works for you but i really think you should have just done 1 coat then showered it off in the morning then another coat etc. doing multiple coats at once can make it "cakey" on some people. but it can also work well so i guess trial and error

i would highly recommend using dream tan #2 over the pro tan. that will get you plenty dark

but i just couldnt stand the dreamtan, it hurts my performance as i'm unable to pose well in it as its pretty slippery.
mayb i've not found the correct method to apply it, therefore protan/jan tana with the musclejuice posing oil over it will be my choice :)

Some really great information here. Seems like we have some real experienced Pro Tan users. If anyone has any questions you know where to find me.
