Ankle hurts during stretches

My left ankle is much more flexible than my right ankle. To try fix this problem, I attempted ankle mobility exercises. My left ankle is/was responsive to them and has greatly improved in flexibility, however, my right ankle just hurts during the exercises and I have seen no improvement in the flexibility. It hurts in the back left part, here:

Any ideas?
