Anyone a fitness model out there? I am wondering how you got started and how you networked to pursue modeling. I am curious and interested. It is such a motivator in my workout routines that in my head I WILL look like fitness models in Oxygen mag etc. I am almost there. :D

Just wondering if/how you have made a career out of fitness and your figure. Thanks everyone who shares. I APPRECIATE IT SOO MUCH!

I wouldn't say that you were almost there from looking at your pics. I also read the captions you posted under the photos and in the profile. I get the feeling from all of it, (and your "almost there" comment) that you are probably just joking, or maybe you don't realize how serious and involved the weight training for a successful fitness model actually is. (or how much mass those women actually have) ...maybe a reality check is in order?

Wow I think this post is a little rude and offensive. I don't think the OP was asking for your opinion on if she is 'almost there' or not. She was simply asking how people got started. To put her down on her accomplishments thus far is counterproductive to anyone!

Hey Megan!

I personally think you look terrific! Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately, I don't have any first-hand info on the mainland fitness industry. Things are a bit different here in Hawaii, much smaller, so less competition.

Hey, have you checked out some of the articles here at bb.com? Some great info if you haven't seen it already!

Take care and best of luck in reaching your goals! :)

Hey Megan! Where are you in Michigan (you can PM me - or you don't have to, if you don't want to)? I'm about 30 miles outside of Detroit.

I think you are very attractive and have a VERY marketable look (you remind me of Pink! - who I think is HAWT). I love your various poses and your are obviously very talented! You ARE making great progress!

Sorry, I can't help you out with resources for modeling, but if we live close, I would do what I could to see what I could find out by asking various trainers at my gym, etc.!

I don't think tawney's post was rude at all. She was not insulting, and yes the OP looks very good, but there's more to being a fitness model than looking attractive. That's the point I took from her post.

I mean, come on, do you women come here for HONEST opinions, or do you just come here to have your egos massaged?

No honest responses are most welcome and always will be however when they are done with a BITCHY ATTITUDE like Tawney does in every single post of hers that's when there is a problem.

Yes the OP does have some work ahead of her and I'm sure she knows this however to be rude about it is not why we are here.

OMG I saw your pics you are very athletic!

"Acting as if" is a great motto to get you to your goals. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't have any real information but I found this site for you which has a bunch of fitness models on it. If you click on the interview link, it asks the models questions about how they got their start.

To the OP - the majority of fitness models used by Oxygen and similar mags are actually fitness or figure competitors so maybe put your mind (and training/diet!) towads competing and getting your name/body out there.

OP, no...I'm only a fitness model in my mind at the current time, so can't help you there. You've got some really nice flex poses up. Stick with it and you'll be on your way and the "inner fitness model" will shine through to your exterior.:) BTW, the training section here is excellent for getting specific training advice on workouts, diet, etc. It also helps to contact folk through pm who've done fitness modelling and still do professionally. There are quite a few of them on here. Any hoot...good luck.

I'm sorry...and if I get banned...so be it. But I cannot keep shut on this one. Please notice the bolded comments from the OP.:o Your post was ridiculously insulting, demeaning, not encouraging in any way and well...I'm actually concerned that you would be so negative and hurtful. Trust me (I'm a NewYorker..ergo thick-skinned) I know about being "straight up"....but the OP did not ask for your opinion for how she looks or how close she is to becoming fitness model material....did she? If I were to go around stating my "personal" opinions on how I feel certain people around here actually look, it would make for "prime time television"...as I'd put Chris Rock out of business...just by stating "my opinion":) Generally, I try to answer the question that is asked...and if asked "how do you rate me"...then yes, I'll give my honest opinion (pos/neg). Perhaps you should try this. I feel you have so much to offer to these threads as you've been through alot and learned quite a bit through the support of many. Have a heart and realize that everyone must start from some place and find their "motivation" wherever they can.

I feel...therefore I am:D

Do you hon!

Write down your goals and go for it. Don't pay attention to insecure chicks telling you what you can and cannot do. They personally don't believe they are good enough and will try to convince you the same.

You got some good advice given to you in this thread. Follow that and start working on your goals. Once you make it then you can give insecure little girls MORE stuff to hate you for.

Remember, we all had to start from the beginning. But think about the thousands of women who have goals like yours and don't start at all.

I mean, come on, do you women come here for HONEST opinions, or do you just come here to have your egos massaged?

Javn, no--I can't agree with this. I'm certainly no 'ego' massager, but that post in question is one of the rudest I've ever encountered. Criticism (constructive or otherwise is one thing), but this is beyond my comprehension, even when I'm in raging PMS bitch mode.

We all have to start somewhere, and I've seen so many women here talk of competing/fitness modeling one day, and then you look at their progress pics to discover they're quite overweight or a long way off from their goals. But then you come back a few month later and it's like dayum girl, what happened to you?!! The body is smokin' (no homo of course).

So what, should we all just start getting really brutal and honest here whenever we encounter someone who's potential hasn't been fully met? If that's the case we can all start slashing and burning a large majority of folks on this site, because hey, we're all just a bunch of silly dreamers!

And I don't care whether the OP thinks she is close to her ideal or not, as she never expressed what she meant by 'almost there,' then again, why should she have to? For some folks this could mean tomorrow, while for others it might mean sometime in the near future, or even a year or two for now. However, this is not the point. The point is that none of us should go out of our way to undermine, or to brazenly state that a 'wake up call' is in order. How embarrassing and uncouth!

If these types of comments become the norm here, then I dare to say that this site will go downhill fast. Word of mouth is critical in today's market, and I have referred a large number of my female friends here, and they all agree that this site gives them HOPE!

And it takes a lot of courage for a female to post pictures of herself here, especially when her body may not be fully up to par. But the last thing any of us needs is to have our goals shot down, or to be ridiculed for whatever fitness related thoughts are spinning in our heads. And don't think for a moment that many other women (lurkers included), or those who thought of posting or asking a similar question, will now think twice, or might even abandon the site altogether as a result of this, or similar cruel behavior.

We don't come here to get out egos massaged (nor do we come here to have them brutally chopped down to size), but there's no denying how important it is to have support. Just look at some of the comments on my page, do you think these words don't actually motivate me, or to help when I feel there's no way in hell I can achieve my goals? They do! It's the people here, we all aid one another. Of course we have to make it happen for ourselves and that most of it is on our own shoulders, but I'm not going to lie when I say how important the people here are to me. Everyone, even the guys that answer all my dumb/redundant/silly questions whenever I call in for supplement advice.

The team here is strong, and we're all a part of it, except for some folks who believe this is a harsh reality site, a wake-up call site, a put someone down site. If anyone needs to work out their hostilities, I'd say it's best to go apply for some reality television show where bitchiness is not only appreciated, but helps to boost ratings.

To the OP, I'm so sorry. Most of us here are not this way, you look lovely and if you keep working hard you will most certainly achieve your fitness goals.

Rant over. Hugs.

Last warning to above posters.

Please see this post:

Dear lord.

Peoples - You need to show a little respect for one another. You can disagree with someone without having to throw insults... Just because it is the internet doesn't mean you can get away with being so blatently rude.

There are forum rules people - read them. If you can't 'follow them' then don't post. If you choose to post and don't follow them - then you need to accept the concequences.

So - If I get any more complaints about the e-flaming/ e-fighting/ e-insulting that is being done [both in this thread, or in any other for that matter] then I WILL neg and/or temp ban. And I mean it.

I thank you all for understanding.

Signed,

Mod Wench Me.

:)

So - That makes it strike number two.
Next one - you are out.

Neg. Ban... which ever is more appropriate.

Thank you once again for your understanding...

You have recieved some really solid advice from some people above (and some not so solid advice from others. ;) )....

At the end of the day for your BODY - it is all about passion, drive and determination. Train well. Eat well. Rest. Research. Experiment... Find out what works for YOU...

In regards to 'getting started' in the industry --> As it was said - Get your name out there... Go to as many events as you can. Network. Promote. Watch... Getting yourself a mentor can also be a REALLY good way to get things underway and to 'get your foot in' too.

Good luck and Work hard!!

Your job as mod is not to take sides, decide if you like posts or mis-use your powers. This is a democracy. There is no profanity, vulgarity, or flaming,etc... in my post. Simply a comment of concern and personal opinion, and that is exactly what these forums are for.

They are not here to cator to Mindi OR me, or the poster for that matter. Each one of us gets to talk.

Nobody but Mindi called anyone a name.

None of my posts are out of bounds for the rules of the website. I have read them. Rudeness is a gray area and a matter of personal opinion. I haven't been rude by a long shot. Rude would have been a post that said...

Like I said, tawney's post wasn't rude at all and anyone who thinks so needs a lesson in reading comprehension, or has deep seated esteem issues themselves.

Emma and anyone else with an issue on this:

I gave a level headed paragraph, that explained where my opinion was formed (from the posters OWN words on their pics) and then I explained my feeling about their unrealistic expectations and attitude towards their experience and chances, and I closed with a question of saying that "MAYBE" a reality check was in order? (with a question mark at the end) to clearly say- is it possible that you haven't thought this all through.

The person seemed to be putting the cart way before the horse. So it seemed like a logical comment.

I also feel that anyone who has a problem with my post either...

a) already hates me, and will jump on any post of mine that they can to call me a nasty person (aka. Mindy)

OR

b) They are not a person who likes to have an honest serious debate. Which is fine. But I don't personally find any value in answering a question that can't be accomplished.

If she was 5ft 2" and 40, and she asked how to try out for the NBA, I would have made a similar post, not told her where the tryouts were.

Now if others want to answer the post that way... GREAT. That's why there are many different people who post. We ALL have our own opinion.

Please stop telling me what mine should be.

Tawney,

No one is asking you to 'sugar coat' comments. They are certainly not asking you to 'stroke ego's' either. I, like you, am of the opinion that these sorts of 'white lies' do nothing for the original poster - they only mislead and confuse. Thus - I will always 'call a spade a spade'. I am also very capable of seeing a 'joke for a joke' and do not take offence easily.

However - this is a board with members from many different backgrounds. And one needs to show other board members respect, and to interact in a curteous and responsible manner. So although you may not have MEANT your comments to be 'insulting' - other members have FOUND them to be so.

As a moderator, it is my responsibility to 'keep the peace'. Thus - when I recieve reports/ pm's asking that something be done to regarding your posts - I went to you and asked you (on a number of occasions) to 'pull back' your enthusiams. I did NOT ask you to lie or stop posting. I simply requested you modify your posting style slightly such that others do not 'misinterpret' your words so easily.

Not only did you fail to do this in subsequent posts... But your only response to me was to simply insult me (both in threads and via pm's).

You have now left me no option but to act further.

Please take a few weeks to 'cool off'. If, after that time, you wish to return you are more than welcome, and I would encourage you to do so as I feel you DO have some valuable information to share.

Thank you once again.

You have now left me no option but to act further.

Please take a few weeks to 'cool off'. If, after that time, you wish to return you are more than welcome, and I would encourage you to do so as I feel you DO have some valuable information to share.

Thank you once again.

Mod Team.

Excellent post/explanation Emma!

OP, I happen to know and work with a Fitness Model (she does it on the side for fun), and believe me... you ARE almost there.

No questions asked.

OP -
I agree with Emma about the networking thing. Go to as many shows/seminars/etc as you can and get to know people. Be persistent and ask questions...oh and SMILE lol

We'll be seeing you in Oxygen soon enough!

Good luck

I don't know if this helps but I have known some fitness models including one whom I know fairly well (over the last 13 years). They are generally much less muscular than figure or fitness *competitors* and basically look like cardio freaks. So having a lot of mass may actually impede success in fitness modeling while being necessary to win figure/fitness and especially BB contests. Basically the look is "athletic and trim with low bodyfat."

I should have been more specific. I didn't update since my surgery so I guess I should do that. LOL. I am ready to hit the weights and training since I have been cleared to lift again. You sound real positive about your experience. Maybe if you don't want to help and aren't happy doing what your doing - you shouldn't waste your time posting.

I don't have to explain my goals/ progress to you that wasn't the question.

(or how much mass those women actually have) ...maybe a reality check is in order?

thanks for the post. I have gotten a nutritionist/figure trainer and am finally able to start hitting it hardcore. I am coming off surgery/injury so really have given this a lot of thought to changing the lifestyle. Thanks again :D

Yeah LOL! I was wondering . I have had a few people send me messages about her. I guess some people aren't the positive passionate type about what they do.

Yeah its hard (my husband does it so I get the lifestyle) but hes in Iraq right now and had to take a year to train with what he has. She just doesn't know what she's talking about. We both are passionate but positive too :D Working out will do that to you . Thanks for support. You gotta start somewhere!!

Thanks for the support. I don't think she understood the question either. obviously. Plus I am coming off surgery in the 2nd place and just cleared to lift :D YEAHHH! THANKS again! I thought these forums were to support each other with common interests too :D

Wow I think this post is a little rude and offensive. I don't think the OP was asking for your opinion on if she is 'almost there' or not. She was simply asking how people got started. To put her down on her accomplishments thus far is counterproductive to anyone!

I have an issue on this b/c your comprehension was CLEARLY lacking. I don't need candy coating but if you are answering on something you have no clue about , expect people to think of you a certain way. I do based on your reply . How would you know my situation anyways- that wasn't the question.
I am just coming off surgery/injury and almost there was me being almost there to train / nutrition hard core again.

Reaity check for you-
I don't need sugar coating but if what you said was what I was wondering about, I would have asked that question. I hope they don't have interview sections for your competitions or you are clearly out of your league.

I was looking for experience if you started how you did it. Apparently you couldn't' answer.

Thanks for support. I won't . People like that don't bother me. I think she must be unhappy.

Wow you just don't stop do you!
