View Full Version : Reps for Outstanding Contributors

Arlecchino
10-12-2008, 01:29 PM
Many people here in the PL and OL section do not exactly have a lot of reps, despite providing a great deal of quality information. To remedy that, following a conversation with Iron619, people can be nominated to receive reps for being an outstanding contributor to this section of the board. They must meet the following criteria:

1. Been a member for at least three months.
2. Have less than 1000 reps.
3. Be nominated, then seconded by at least two additional people.
4. Have a minimum of 500 posts.
5. Nomination must include links to five posts that meet the criteria.
6. At least four of the five links must come from the PL or OL section.

A person's posting history should have a significant bearing on their nomination. If someone has been a disruptive influence, then they should not be nominated until they contribute without getting threads closed, starting flame wars, etc. In other sections of the board there have been threads of this nature, and I have used them to get a couple of people repped, and I was repped for contributing to the workout programs sections. However, it is past the time we started taking care of our own.

At least five links to posts must be provided, no links, no reps. Please post all links and nominations, seconds, etc. in this thread.

One person will be repped following a review of the nominations from the previous week. There has been a change in the rep status of mods. Anyone being repped from this point forward will receive a rep from one mod only.

Edited to add: (idea stolen from Forge) if 75% of their posts are in the misc, forget it. While there may be some exceptions, do not count on it. The goal is to recognize people who put forth effort in this area of the board.

First person to be repped will probably occur a week from Monday.

Note: The limit on one person per week is to actually have the recognition mean something. This, IMO, means more than little green dots, but they are all I can really think of too offer. Also, if someone is nominated during a week but does not get repped, feel free to nominate them again.

We have some very good posters here in all areas: PL'ers, OL'ers, and Strongmen, and those who have continued to make a solid and positive effort to provide quality information in an adult manner should be recognized for it.

Questions can be posted in this thread, or PM'd to me as copycatting this thread from the workout programs section was my idea, so you know who to complain to if you do not like it.

Best of luck,

Eric

In the thread. Will edit the OP.

Also, because I started this, even though I can think of some people, I will neither nominate nor second anyone. Seems to smack of, well not necessarily favoritism, but since I am involved, there is just something I do not like about doing that.

even though he is a bit over 1000 rep points and a bit under 500 posts, the cannibal deserves the first one because I think 450 of his 480 odd posts have been 1000 word enteries that willl probably later citied as the catalyst for peace in the middle east.

And I want to nominate madaozeki, from the oly lifting section.

I will discuss it with Iron619 and see about possibly lowering the post count. Not sure if I like the idea or not. One of the reasons for this is to encourage some people to post more. It may work, or it may not.

I understand that. If this thread lasts for a while, he (madaozeki) might have 500 posts in a few months. I looked at his post history, and he used to post very sporadically, but now, he posts quite a bit in the OL section.

Nah. Just some people should be recognized for their contributions. Hopefully, this will also encourage some people who could post more, or at least generate more in the way of quality posts, to do so.

There has been a thread of this nature in the workout programs section for a couple of years, and that was the source of my first mod rep, and a couple of others have come and gone from time to time. I have kept an eye out for when they occured, and was able to get mod reps for a couple of people in this section, but this seems like a better idea.

No real benefit other than recognition. All too often we are very quick to criticize here, myself included. Some people actually deserve far more thanks than they receive for their efforts, and this is the best I could come up with.

People who were previously nominated yet not repped could be nominated again.

And it looks like they are going to get a huge boost now. As in +1500, so it is good that it is harder than in some areas of the board. Given that most people here are fairly low in reps compared to many other sections, this is a very significant jump. And that is also why it is only a max of one per week.

We would like to recognize those people who are significant contributors.

Yeah. I have always been going to post in there more, but since I do not compete any more, and now most of my focus is powerlifting, I spend what little spare time I have here.

Yes, that is exactly what it means.

Example:

You have a rep of 1735, which means should you rep someone, they will increase in rep power by 1.735 reps, or decrease by half that.

I have a rep power of 502985, so when I rep someone they will increase by over 500, and when I neg someone, they will drop by more than 250 (I rarely do this).

I would like to nominate Jason2459

He painstakingly maintains the Powerlifting Section Rankings which I can only imagine is a hell of a job in and of itself.

He also went out of his way to make notes on Dave Tate's interview yesterday just so he could post the updates and keep us informed. I downloaded and heard the podcast later in the day but his information really helped me.

Jason also competes and that means he walks the walk and talks the talk: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpost.php?p=315326691&postcount=237

Here is the Lifter Ranking thread: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=113028291

Here is his thread on Dave Tate: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=115518771

This was from a PM

I would say that you've got a pretty good idea of what you're looking at! I'm of the opinion that the MM would be a better way to go, more for the protein mix and the carb mix than anything. The Cytogainer has whey and faster whey, where the MM has fast whey down to casein, for better fast/slow proteins. Waxy maize also is the in thing as far as carbs go, can't really hurt with that if you're looking for extra calories, as well as the extra fat you get in the MM. The creatine you get in the Cytogainer isn't really enough to make a difference, I think they just throw it in there so people buy it. The extra glutamine in the MM is always good for recovery. Monster Mass is pretty much always more expensive, though, so I guess it just depends on if you think the difference is worth the $5 more per 18 servings (although you do get more calories for your money with the MM).

I just saw this after I was repped, thanks guise.... too bad most of you are on spread for reps from me!
Yeah buddy.

I demand one of trettin's mod reps be taken away as he has spent most of his time on this forum as skinny rob who nobody likes
Nudes or negs.

I'd like to nominate End Point
He's always making great posts about programming, and the sport in general

But best of all, he makes awesome nerdish posts about the science behind it. I'm sure we can come up with a few examples for him

Plus, even though he is successful and smart he still hands around the Broz thread ect and asks questions trying to get even better

I like EndPoint as well, always willing to help even if the OP is fairly lacking in intelligence.

3rd for endpoint

In for Endpoint as well.

x 2

endpoint is really helpful and knowledgeable. I thought he already got repped. I am sure I can find some good posts of his tonight at work.

I'd like to third endpoint

I didn't have to go far to find his rep worthy posts.

this is a great thread and has always been a sticky.

We asked it to be unstickied becuase it has nothing to do with training and it only added to the massive clusterphuck of threads cluttering the stickies making them essentially useless in stopping newbs from posting stupid threads
