I have been suffering from gastroparesis (partially paralyzed digestive system)since April. It's bad enough that I haven't been able to lift since July, but even worse I have lost 17# since then and have zero energy!

Hunting season is less than 3 weeks away, I need to be able to eat if I want to traipse around the mountains in pursuit of that big muley, and perhaps a bear!

I actively hunt the deer, but will take a bear if the opportunity presents itself. Although in retrospect it should be the other way around since I prefer bear meat to venison.

However, my wife and son prefer venison - how wierd is that?

Is there any "cure" for this condition? Or is it something that just starts back up on its own or what?

Eat more fiber???? I really have no idea, that sounds like it sucks.

I guess if you can't run around in the mountains too much, you could get one of these to hunt out of... mobile deer stand lol

Actually high-fiber diets are taboo at the moment. They would compound the problem. Which sounds totally bass-akwards to me.

What if you went mostly liquid diet? Lots of protein shakes and ice cream and stuff like that for calories?

There are meds which can help jump start the digestive system, but if all else fails then surgery may be required to repair the vagus nerve, there is even a pace-maker type of thing that can be implanted to trigger contractions.

We haven't given up on the med route yet, we just need to find one that does the job w/o the side effects. The one I take now is too aggressive, triggers too strong of stomach contractions, leaves me with a dry throat, and has heightened the 'gag reflex'. I must now take smaller bites and chew more thoroughly before swallowing.

do you take any probiotics for thatYes I do, but with all the other digestive issues they seem to be of little benefit.

Crap! Now they're thinking that I might have mono to boot. Anyone want to take my son deer hunting for me, looks like I'm going to be out of commission. :(

Tender near the spleen and liver. Loss of appetite, all's I want to do is sleep, achy joints and muscles, low grade fever, constant sore throat

That is the pits Idaho. I really do know how you feel, having had my own share of intestinal problems for decades. Low residue ie low fiber, high fat and protein. I developed lactose intolerance as well, but used to make homemade yoghurt by the gallon, because I still wanted to "drink" milk by the pint:

Bring whole or semi skimmed milk just to the boil('til it starts to seethe) to kill any competing bacteria. Remove from heat and allow the covered pot to cool to bodyheat. I didn't use a thermometer, just knew it was ready when the pot is nicely warm against your bare skin. Add a few spoons of real live yoghurt, cover again and leave near the range, in the hot press/cupboard or on one of those electrical heating pads for making beer!(I can't drink alcohol anymore because of these issues, but there's a great use besides home brewing!).

Next morn you'll have a whole pot of creamy yoghurt. Don't add sugar, because that's really sweet poison. But any fruit you like, and raisins etc, will make it a feast for breakfast. Full fat will give you lots of easily digested calories that you badly need at this time.

There is no lactose in such real yoghurt or in any real cheese. When it is hard to eat anything else, a half pound of brie or camembert or other easily gobbled cheese, and a banana and other fruit has a surprising amount of calories and protein.

Get well soon

In my thoughts and prayers.
