Thought I'd share some thoughts about how judging is in BBing competition. There can be 5 to 7 judges in a show. Most of the action is in the Prejudging. It is a little like judging cattle, I hate to admit it, and can be boring to the uneducated in the sport.

One thing I want to make clear about this sport. It takes not only at ton of work, prep time of training, diet, and discipline.Unless experienced, you will never know how it is!

Mostly, IT TAKES GUTS!

You put it all out there! Nothing between you and the judges, but air, and the little sausage sling!

When looking at a BBing judges score sheet, the first thing you will see is that 1st place is sometimes the obvious winner. Usually, yet not always one guy just blows it away. Sometimes the lines between 1st and 2nd are a little blurred like my masters show at the Emerald Cup where I tied for 1st, yet was pushed to 2nd in the judges decision.

Yet if you are over the top, there is no debating, and you win. When I was at the NPC Washington Empire Masters class, I was the clear winner and so was 2nd place, yet from there, the rest of them could have placed one way or the other depending on the judges preference.

Often tho the rest of the bbers, 2nd place and on, the scores are all over the place. For example here at the NPC Oregon State, Novice 2nd, thru 5th the scoring is all over the place. In fact I didn't even get a 4th place from any of the judges, got mostly 3rds. They either liked me a lot or put me at the bottom. Most of the 4th places went to 2nd and 3rd.

It seems funny how one judge can give me a 2nd and the next give me 6th. Yet, it's even funnier, if you get the chance, is to watch the judges debate over the placements later at the hotel bar, or restaurant! LOL!

The point is, they all looked amazing, even the 6th place man. No one enters to be last place. All have worked hard to get there! That's why I was pleased as punch to take my 4th place Heavy Weight class, being 17 to 25 years older than the rest of them, even tho my trainer was pissed as hell over it! (He's still a young punk!)

Like one veteran judge told me, " If you can't handle the judging, politics and ignorance in BBing competitions, then go into power lifting or some other sport that can be timed with a clock or measured with a ruler!"
